  1. There will be a presentation at the CUFNA meeting in the Deaconess Cafeteria at 7:30pm on Tuesday. The presentation will include the possible demolition of the building at the SE corner of W McMillan and W. Clifton as well as the possible demolition a several houses on Lyon Street and Christy's to make way for a new mixed use development and above ground parking garage.
  2. Just heard tonight at Corryville Community Council, Dan Shimberg , from uptown properties would like to demolish Shiel Elementary School. I hate to see any historic public school buildings demolished. He wants the whole block gone..HELP!
  3. My mom is the art teacher at Covedale and the building has alot of great details. Jim Cheng did a wonderful job designing the building. He really kept the neighborhood in mind and did his best not to conform to Ohio State laws. But even though the design is great there are so many issues with putting it together. For example, desks given to teachers barely serve their function and include useless things like a half inch deep drawer(what do you even put in that?) and cushioned file cabinets? This was the main thing that bugged me as I helped unpack 253 boxes this saturday but there are other Functions that CPS really needs to work on.
  4. ha yeah. but from what i have heard the tunnels are pretty much cut up and badly damaged.
  5. Thanks david.. very funny. Actually, Whats down there now is an water powered elevator, a couple large coal carts and an outline where the tunnel is.
  6. Hey thanks for posting these! I was so bummed to miss Perryville this year.
  7. Okay- so I did some research. Levi Coffin's barn stood on the south side of the current buildings foundation. At that time, he and other major abolitionists created tunnels (about ten) that went from the river to safe houses. One of the tunnels was found when the 1910 school was built. Its blocked by the foundation now but there is a marker there.
  8. I know the school is also a burial site for abigale cutter.
  9. It is supposedly under the basement of the current building. I have heard from students and teachers that there were slaves hiding down there but I don't see how since it was built after slavery ended. Here's an article.. But it doesn't mention the tunnel. building.http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/01/06/loc_loc1ascpa.html
  10. So, Does any one know or have seen the tunnel system under SCPA? Supposedly Levi Coffin had a cabin there and the founders of woodward were abolitionists? Just looking for clarification.
  11. ironic- I am writing my thesis on CPS buildings. There have been so many great losses and more to come. HAs anyone looked at Lafayette Bloom? Gorgeous interior. I really hope Turner doesn't decide it isn't worth it.
  12. Our skywalk system is awesome. I really wish we could use all of them. I have tried to follow those maps of the skywalks downtown but they're always blocked!
