Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
I am all for seeing more retail downtown, but how is Stark going to keep it from ending up like Tower City and The Galleria? There is already an Aldo, Guess, Sephora, Coach, Pottery Barn, and a lot of these other places in Beachwood, Crocker Park, Legacy Village, etc. How is he going to get people to come downtown when they can go to a mall or lifestyle center with free parking and a more insular environment? Also, do any of the stores that would be new to the region (to my knowledge), like Zara and Mango, have policies where they can only have X amount of stores in a region (as opposed to the Gap which has stores in just about every mall...)? I remember a couple of years ago the PD reporter, Kim Crow, had a list of chain clothing stores that weren't in NEO yet. I wish I had a link to that article.

Where is Home?
I was born on Cleveland's east side and raised in an east side suburb. I now live a little further south. I also attended college in Columbus and will be transferring to a school in St. Louis this fall.

M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes"- Worst Performance Censorship in American History
They didn't tell her that they were editing the gunshots out!? I've known about M.I.A. for a couple of years and she's always seemed pretty obscure here (until "Paper Planes", that is). My brother in Toledo didn't even hear about her until I sent him the video for "Bird Flu". At OSU, a lot of people didn't know who M.I.A. was, until they found out that she would be performing at the spring concert that the activities board puts on (and that Souljah Boy would be opening for her...). Most American tweens, teens, and young adults could care less about creativity, musical aptitude, lyrics, and all that jazz. As long as it has a good beat, a catchy chorus, and is adored by the mainstream media it's all cool. That's why most mainstream music today is horrible and you have to dig deeper to get to the good stuff (here I go stating the obvious...).

East Cleveland - Shaw Marching Band
When I was at the airport last week, I saw the band getting ready to head to China. I am very, very happy for them! I hope that more of the media will cover this story.

Dubai: Developments and News
This makes me want to visit Dubai even more...the over the topness of it all is fascinating...the cost of it all (workers rights and the crazy amounts of money) is depressing though.

North Randall: Randall Park Mall
I've heard about the good ole days of Randall Park Mall from my parents (my grandfather laid the gas lines down for the mall when it was being built). Even in the early-mid 90's when I was young, it seemed like it was much, much better. I wonder what will be the "in" way of shopping after lifestyle centers? Will people finally turn back to (real) downtown/town center shopping?

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
tinkerbelle replied to buildingcincinnati's topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis looks like it's going going to turn out very, very nicely! I saw an information tent for it when I went to the Gallery Hop a few days ago.

Columbus: Arts News & Discussion
I love the Short North, but I have always wondered what other neighborhoods are good for exploring the arts scene in Columbus? How is German Village?

How does Las Vegas do it?
I have yet to visit Las Vegas. However, it seems as if Vegas and the cities in Ohio are not really comparable, as was mentioned. Vegas seems to be in a league of its own, as far as US cities go. It's like a more adult version of Disney World...people go there to experience a world of fantasy. I mean, where else can you find New York, New York and the Eiffel Tower in one city.... I do hope to visit when I turn 21. I am happy that I only have two years, since the water situation is looking dismal.

Yeah, I help out the Homeless Grapevine people. Usually though, I don't give homeless people money.

East Cleveland - Shaw Marching Band
any takers, M2S? I think I am going to start by forwarding this story to some blogs that I read. I've know people in the Shaw Marching Band and like MayDay said, this experience will be great for them!

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
I agree...Columbus needs some type of branding to give it an edge. Something to really capitalize on...besides OSU. Hey now! Them's fighting words! Haha, this woman obviously needs to focus on branding her city instead of shooting others down...I'm just saying.

Columbus: University District: South Campus Gateway
*Sigh* I was reading the Dispatch and happened to see the (terrible) news. I haven't been to the Kroger on High Street yet, but they have a natural foods section, right? Or where is the nearest Whole Foods/Wild Oats/other natural foods store?

Forbes: America's Most Miserable Cities
ITA! I was so happy to see that Cleveland didn't make the list (or the top 10 at least). I just got finished looking at comments on Cleveland.com and wishing that those people would move already. Just driving past Gary to get to Chicago was depressing... These Forbes lists are killing me and poor Detroit (no pun intended) always makes the top of every NEGATIVE list. Honestly, they need to make a list of cities that have positively impacted American music...that way Detroit can be in the top ten for something good! Why don't people mention lists like "The Most Literate Cities", where Cincinnati and Cleveland were both in the top fifteen? I personally think all these rankings are stupid...but if you are going to mention the bad, you have to mention the good as well....

Marketing community involvement to youth
That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I wish NEO had something raw like Youth Outlook (http://www.youthoutlook.org).

Abandoned: Solon: Central Park Lifestyle Center
I saw the Garden District display in the shopping center where the Solon Giant Eagle is and couldn't help but shake my head in disappointment. When will the market of lifestyle centers become oversaturated? Solon? Willoughby? North Royalton? That is way too much and there are too many shopping centers and malls in the area that are in a continuous decline.

Marketing community involvement to youth
Thanks everyone! *looks at Urban Ohio* I wonder what would happen if I made it into a forum? I'm good at starting a mass of random topics. Then I just wait for people to reply. What I really need to do is start a social networking site. People my age LIVE on networking sites.

Dallas
When I went to Dallas for a conference two years ago, one of my teachers was surprised that their downtown is dead after five. His reply "Wow, so it isn't only an Ohio thing! In what little I saw of Dallas, it was nice. I would like to go back and explore more.

Geauga Lake
 I can see it now too. Despite there being concrete everywhere, I wish that it could be turned into a large, inviting green space instead. You know, when people need a break from the hustle and bustle of Walmart...

Columbus: Drake Center is Ugly
Except for pizza (but even then people would rather have it delivered). The towers are hideous but people who live in other parts of campus glamorize them (or so I've seen with my fellow freshmen). Not mention the layout is confusing and Jeffrey Dahmer supposedly lived in one of them.
