Do you remember who was driving your car 5 months ago?

So much for innocent until proven guilty, huh? Aside from having to fork over $100 for something I'm not even sure I'm responsible for, my biggest issue with this is that they cannot prove that I was driving the car. Sure, the car is registered to me but I don't keep a log of where my car is at during every minute of the day and who was driving it. Furthermore, many of these cities get these cameras at no cost but they send a % of the profits to the manufacturer. There is something seriously wrong when law enforcement ("To protect and serve") is used as a profit center/revenue generator.

So I just received a ticket in the mail from an alleged speeding violation I had almost 5 months ago in Cleveland. Since there is no proof I was driving the car (and I'm not even sure I was) am I responsible for paying the ticket? I've heard about other cities that cannot collect on red light tickets because there is no proof that the person ticketed was the violator. The cities still issue the tickets and most people pay them because they think they have to. Is there anyone here that has had experience with this? Thanks.

There were several articles that mentioned Key backed out of buying "a rival bank" back in the spring due to the FAS 157 accounting treatment/punishment that would've taken place. If I was a betting man, I would guess that bank was Nat City since there were strong rumors of Key buying them during that time.

Actually, PNC can turn around and say, "sorry, we don't like this deal." False. Key is actually in a good position. They haven't had any subprime exposure, will recoup some of their tax charges that were announced during the 2nd quarter, and have a solid Tier 1 capital ratio. Hopefully they don't get bought out as well or that will be a big blow to the city. Just came from the Wal-Mart at SYC. Let's just say that there is quite an interesting customer base there but at the end of the day I'm just like them, I like low prices and wide selection. Jimmy John's was having a $1 sandwich special and as you can expect the line was out the door.

While on the elevator at work today I saw someone carrying very large blueprints for 1375 Euclid. There was a stamp on them from March 2008 but I didn't get any other details. What project is going on here? I tried to search for it but didn't see much on it so if there is a thread on this that I can't find I'm sure this will be merged.

It's unfortunate that there are so many scams out there because I honestly believe that there are people who genuinely need help. That said, when you consistently see the same people at the same locations, same days, and same times it's obvious they might be lazy. Not saying they aren't nice people, just lazy. The rebar guy is something else. I've never seen anybody, in any city I've been to, to take scamming to that level.

So last night I had a very interesting encounter with a beggar while I was on my way home from work (downtown Cleveland). He was hanging around a construction zone (it was about 11:15 pm) and was in full construction gear: goggles, reflective vest, hard hat, dirty gloves, work boots, ear plugs, etc. He comes up to me with the typical "Excuse me sir, can I ask you something?" Proceeds to tell me how his truck hit some rebar and it tore the gas tank. A sealant at the local BP has it for $12-14 and he's $4 short. Naturally I know that 1) construction workers in that area don't work that late and 2) he was full of it. When I got to work this morning I was bragging about the insane amount of effort and preparation this guy did and it turns out he's pretty infamous around the office. Then I started thinking about what are the most creative beggar tricks/stories that I have personally encountered. Here's my list: 1. The late night construction worker in full gear. (I should've asked him where the rest of the Village People were at) 2. A guy in a city I used to live in who would hold up a sign that said "Broke" 3. The guy who sits out front of my office during lunch and then over by CVS on Euclid between 5-7 (I haven't seen him in a while) Okay, so I'm making light of a touchy subject but some of these guys are hilarious but they really ruin it for those who truly need the financial assistance.

Another mural is underway. In the picture above it is going on the facade that is facing west just as you walk in the door. I have noticed one thing about this development and it is that these guys are hauling serious tail in building out this space. It's amazing how fast they are progressing.

the mural is pretty craptastic. I'm not a fan of this type of establishment in this kind of building. This is more suitable for the warehouse district and the building would be better served with retail, which downtown desperately needs.

I can't help but ask, why are they tearing this down now that Euclid is reopening versus when it was closed?

A lot of construction activity has been taking place in the corner space across from Corner Alley. It looks like some of the wall panels have been placed on the floor where they will be going...looks nice.
