  1. The new Cincy shots filmed this summer are showing up now on Harrys Law. There is a different Cincy shot shown after every commercial break. They are all quite beautiful.

If swimming is a must, Coney Island has a seriously massive swimming pool with six water slides and a few rides which would be great for kids, but you will need to drive about 15 minutes out of Downtown.

Findlay Market is a seriously cool place to go with kids, also if you are staying Downtown the open air observation deck in the Carew Tower is a cheap thrill. Fountain Square is beautiful and has has lots of eating places and a Greaters Ice Cream which is arguably the best anywhere. :-)

  5. For what it's worth, I think this one's shaping up to be a real beauty, as long as the sign isn't too obnoxious and the stuff on top get's hidden. Some viewing angles are better than others which makes it kind of cool as well. IMHO
  6. Channel 9 just reported we might know by noon today!
  7. This photo set is a classic! Thanks again.
  8. In earlier days I used to help my father and uncle raise tobacco several miles outside of New Richmond. My uncle's field at the time (it has since been sold ) was on a ridge that overlooks the Ohio Valley and Kentucky and I swear that on a clear night you could see the top of the Carew Tower lit up at night. That would be at least 20 miles away! I'm currently building up the nerve to go see if you can see any new construction. When this sucker is completed we all should have a competition to see who gets a shot of the building from farthest away. Hope I'm not too spineless.

" although, as we now know, Reagan tremendously increased the nat'l debt by tremendous inflationary military spending. " And in doing so he ended the cold war!
  13. So watch out everyone as private messages have a big brother attached.. Now, back to lurking.
  14. Diamondback was featured today on Goodmorning America's "Around the Watercooler" segment. They did a great job showing what the ride will look like. They did throw out "tallest, longest, and fastest" in maybe the wrong context, meaning they did not indicate these accolades were just for the park. They did a great job showing the stadium style seating explaining that all of the seats will offer an outstanding view and ride experience. I know Behemouth at a sister park has already been built. Rollercoaster companies, as any business, often will try to duplicate successful products and place them elsewhere. I also know that parks try not to overduplicate successful rides and place them so that they remain a featured and somewhat unique attraction. What this means is, while Cedar Point already has two B&M's, they probably won't get one like this. What exactly were you expecting anyway? Warning: this response will require more than a one word answer. I know that not everyone is completely happy with this ride, but remember sometimes the innovative rides can turn into Lemons like The Bat. Would it have helped if the ride was 10 feet taller and went 6 miles an hour faster or maybe was 300 feet longer? I find it a little interesting that someone's dislike for the GABP somehow sneeked into the discussion. Where did that come from? I'm beginning to see a pattern developing, what with comments regarding the Ascent and other things that maybe someone's fondness for the region maybe waning. I certainly don't want to put words in anyone's mouth. Just my perception. I think that you can keep Columbus and Dayton, Cincy is where a whole lotta stuff is going on... and I've traveled extensively as well. I honestly respect other persons opinions and differing viewpoints. What I don't respect are opinions that are stated so as to infer that they are so far superior that any other viewpoints would be wrong and completely uneducated.
  15. I'd like to ask the current curator of the CAM if he shares the same (J Meck's) sentiments regarding our collections. I for one (a lowely peasant hardly worthy of posting anywhere on this elitist site) remember visiting the Tate Moderne in London several years back and remarking that several of their permanent works had similar counterparts at the CAM. Can I recite them by name and remember the artists? Nope. But I can tell you we have a respectable collection. I have always wondered if maybe the popularity or notoriety of a work of art is also based upon where it is permanently displayed. " If it's in the MOMA it must be a masterpiece unlike that similar piece of shit over at the CAM". Just airing my opinion cause I'm getting a little peaved at the Cincy cintingency that proports to support our City and region but also rips it apart with the same breath. I'm afraid a neutral onlooker might take the bashing a little more serious. I'm certainly not saying that the CAM is the best on the Planet Earth, but it is a local treasure that deservse more respect. MY guess we have more than a few pieces worth looking at. I know I have always really enjoyed it and I took an art history class or two in college. Now.... Off with my head!!!!!!!!!
  16. "So Behemoth with a splash down. Gotcha." Yeah, having the "mac daddy" of all rollercoaster designers and manufacturers build one in our own backyard is so beneath you because it's not a record breaker or a complete new innovation. Colday, please get over yourself! Besides being built by the "Mercedes" of rollercoaster companies, this coaster will be in the top 10 rank of coasters in the US in regards to speed, height, and drop. It will be a three minute ride with a very respectable length of just under 5300 feet. Roller Coaster Data Base (RCDB) does not rank the number of coasters with the most number of drops over 100', but I'm sure Diamondback's drops of 215', 193', 131', 129', 110', and 106' places it firmly in the top 5 coasters in the world. People have bitched about Kings Islands rides not having enough airtime, this thing is primarily an "airtime machine". The rides layout is also very exciting, the track crosses itself several times, dives into and turns then comes up out of a natural ravine, then of course, there's the splashdown which will be the first added onto a B&M "Mega Coaster". This sucker is going to be awesome and people will come from all over the country to ride this thing. Cedar Fair is not putting Kings Island out to pasture they are keeping us right in there with the big boys.
  17. Due to the air of haughtiness this site has seemed to developed, I feel a little hesitant to mention that I love Larosas' traditional crust pizzas. I know a lot of Cincinnati transplants who, upon returning returning for a visit, have to hit Greaters, Skyline, and Larosas before their visit is complete. So there must be something there. I know that there are Larosas everywhere in Cincy and it is not considered to be an exclusive "designer" pie, but to me it has a unique flavor and is a big part of what Cincy is, not to showy but damn good and something to be proud of.

C-Dawg This longtime lurker and sometime poster always enjoys your posts, sometimes I'm a little annoyed with them, sometimes I'm a little offended, but I always read them for their entertainment value. What annoys me is that there are some posters out there who, trying to keep their posting numbers up, usually answer with a damn one word response that is supposed to make sense.
  19. That is a great idea. One would think this would have already been done. Do you think because it is not an issue that requires a public referendum that "support the streetcar" banners etc. have not been used?
  20. Actually there are currently serious plans to bring a "farmer's market" to the square this summer. I'm sure details will be forthcoming.
  21. Here's the generic response given to my letter to Roxy The only motion on the streetcar that was on the Finance Committee agenda yesterday was the compromise motion written by Councilmember Qualls two weeks ago in conjunction with John Cranley, Chris Bortz, David Crowley, and the Mayor (see attachment). The motion was placed on the agenda by Councilmember Qualls last Friday. Councilmember Qualls intended to vote on the streetcar yesterday. There is a new motion written by Councilmember Bortz that has not been introduced. Councilmember Bortz asked that the Qualls motion be held yesterday until the next Finance Committee meeting in two weeks. The Bortz motion will probably be introduced at that time. The only difference between Councilmembers at this point is how much of a guarantee is given that the Uptown Circulator will be built. I think we’re getting very close to a point where there is agreement. Councilmembers will be meeting on this issue later this week. There will be a streetcar agreement soon. Ron Wahl Assistant to Councilmember Roxanne Qualls

  23. If you go to a coaster site called screamscape, there in the news from yesterday it shows you a link to a site that has the construction pictures. The costruction site is huge. In my mind there is no doubt as to the fact that they are building a new monster attraction that is probably a coaster.
  24. Thanks I will certainly post the response if any. Ed
  25. Ms. Qualls I'm sending you this e-mail urging you to reconsider your apparent "stall tactics" in getting the first phase of the streetcar built. As a vendor at Findlay Market, I feel that the introduction of the first phase of the streetcar line from downtown onto Over The Rhine would greatly enhance and insure that the market remains a vital part of the rebirth of our entire city. While Findlay Market still enjoys a relatively healthy Saturday market. as I'm sure you know, the rest of the days of the week that the market is open: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, the market traffic is very light to almost negligible. I can assure you that the Market is struggling to be a successful venture. For many of the vendors, one good day is not enough to be able to survive in the long term, this is why a huge chunk of the market remains vacant. The current proposed streetcar line running along Elm Street would greatly affect the attendance at Findlay Market. One easily can envision downtown workers and residents hopping the streetcars during lunch hour to do some quick shopping and grab a bite to eat. I also see less apprehension from the suburban workers who might be afraid to venture into the neighborhood but would be willing to leave their cars parked downtown and take a clean, quick and safe mode of transportation to explore OTR and Findlay Market. Saturday's market would also be greatly enhanced because our parking lots during peak season are filled to capacity for most of the day, but with this mode of transportation, once again the downtown residents would have little reason to drive. Oh yeah, let's not forget the tourists visiting Cincinnati, staying downtown being able to easily visit one of our true Historic attractions. I spoke briefly with Mr. Tarbell while he was buying some flowers from me. I asked him if he thought that the streetcar was going to pass the city council vote and he was cautiously optimistic. I also asked him why you were so opposed to the plans where the first phase was to be built and used as leverage for the second phase which will ultimately reach UC. He said that he did not know that I should write to you asking for your support of the current plans. I didn't think I needed to as the Enquirer indicated that the measure had enough support to pass. Well, It looks as though you and Mr. Cranley stalled the referendum again dalaying the vote for another two weeks. Maybe if I and most streetcar supporters understood what you are trying to accomplish with your obvious stall tactics, then we could stomach them better. Time is of the essence we only have a short window of opportunity to get this accomplished. The streetcar, I'm sure ,will not just be an enhancement to Findlay Market, it will make the whole city a better place in which to live, work and visit. Findlay Market's viability is in jeapody, and is just one entity that could certainly thrive because of the streetcar being built much sooner than later. How many millions of dollars do you think it would cost the city to build a long discussed parking garage big enough to make Findlay market successful? I say lets kill two birds with one stone, build the streetcar so the garage won't be necessary. Until then, I regret Mr. Tarbell's forced retirement from council and you specifically as being made his replacement. Mr. Tarbell was and is OTR's greatest advocate. I feel that ,if he were still on council, we would be laying track much sooner. Sincerely, Edward Wildey Wildey Flower farm Here's what I wrote in total frustration. Ed
