  1. This scenery is truly spectacular at all times of year. It has long been one of my development (anti-development?) dreams that the North and South Chagrin reservations would be connected as on the west side. Only a sliver of land next to Chagrin River road, maybe 400' wide would be necessary. Chunks of this are already in public or quasi public hands. We would then have a green, continuous 96 mi. loop all around the city with tendrills moving into the city. This would be one of the most scenic bicycle tours in the country excluding the mountain loop tours of the West and Northwest. Certainly one of the most scenic in the east. A great tour too, challenging but nothing extreme. It would support restaurants, bakeries and bed and breakfast places and would attract cycle tourist from all over the midwest and probably some from Europe (UK especially). It would eventually pay for itself in enhanced property and income tax revenue while creating a timeless public asset.
  2. If Mayor Prosperity had actual knowledge of this press release it is further evidence that he is totally out of his league. I have also been talking to some of my contractor (big projects) acquaintances. They can not imagine any HVAC/electrical rehab that would cost anything like $60 million. MMPI is playing hardball and we have no one with either the intelect (Mayor prosperity) or interest (lame duck commissioners) to stand in the batter's box.
  3. Well, you guys got Strictland (sp?) who was going to change everything after the evil Taft. Now what?
  4. ? Isn't propert tax valuation supposed to be based on fair market value?
  5. "the fact that his ohio casino profits, among his other disposable income, i.e, from the cavs and of course his businesses etc, are or will be funding his pet detroit transit project and whatever else non-ohio thing he sees fit to spend his $ on." Most investments of this type are not consistent cash flow generators and don't generate any income. The owner's usually make thier profits in sale of the asset resulting in capital gain at the much lower tax rate. This is particulary true with respoect to sports teams.
  6. Cleveland is really close to having a great skyline. I think we need one more skyscraper to fill/balance the skyline. 40-50 stories but exactly where should it go and in what style? I think that the new skyscraper in Cincinnati with its art deco crown treatment is going to look great but I am not sure that would be right for Cleveland. Also the stonebridge area is really coming along. a few more buildings there and it will look great too.
  7. Something tells me that you love conspiracy theories. Uh, that would be me.
  8. So, would this be a politically smart project for Mayor Prosperity to adopt? Could KJP's simpler (non-subway) plan be completed in four years or will it still take 10 yrs. just to get the project approved?
  9. I've got it. How about the county leases the Breuer Tower form the current owner! Let the owner pay for all the tennant imporvements!
  10. "Mayor Poverty"?? Thats really disrespectful, not only to the Mayor but, to those of us who live in Cleveland proper. This is not the place for that discussion and I would be pleased to have it in the correct place. To the extent I strayed off topic I withdraw the comment. However, in defense of those of you who live in the city he has done nothing to bring badly needed light industrial jobs for male, semi-skilled workers into this town; is doing nothing that I can see in his second term to do so, and that is what should offend you. Staying on topic. There is no infrastructure project that this mayor can point to as his own. Most multi-term mayors like to point to something that was conceived/implemented on their watch. I am wondering if this has the cost/timeline possibilities for this to be something a second term mayor could run with.
  11. Now that Mayor Poverty has been reelected maybe he could adopt this as his legacy? I do not think he will be elected another term and he currently has nothing to point to. Medical Mart is a county plan and the casino was really a state initiative. Combine this with KJP's inner belt plan and he would be the greatest mayor since Tom L. Johnson!
  12. But if you can't get the sailboat from under Mall B to under Mall C because of St. Clair what is the point of having a high ceiling under Mall C?
  13. So if there will be a dip in the ceiling, and the loading docks are on the south end only, why not make the ceilings on the north side of the dip at the same height as the dip and keep the view to the north? This seems elementary so there must be something I am missing.
  14. There is something I don't understand about this "raising the level of the mall" concept. If malls "C" and "B" are going to be used, and excavation will not be below the "bathtub" level, isn't the top of the street in front of the court house and city hall the limiting factor? Otherwise, is there going to be a dip in the ceiling height under the street?
  15. Masterful KJP, masterful. Can we hire you to run RTA?

This thing is getting worse and worse. Let's kill it and do the KJP plan!
  17. Also, the Mall was packed with people in the spring, summer and fall when the Hanna fountains were operating there. IMHO that was one of the most beautiful urban parks in the continental U.S. when it was configured that way. To this day it is still not fully appreciated what we lost when the fountains were removed.
  18. $60 million for HVAC? I don't believe it. $60,000,000.00 buys a lot of ducting and Romex. Something else is going on here.
  19. The Not everyone believed/believes that Sweeney was anything more than a sarcastic pest. Then why did he commit himself to a mental hospital shortly before he was going to be arrested?

for Cleveland you forgot George Steinbrener (sp?)
  21. There used to be a Howard Johnson's in the area that changed names. So CWRU visitors didn't have too far to go. The first floor was turned into a bar, the "Dirty Scalpel" with blood dripping off the sign. The place had a bathtub full of peanuts in the shell (free) and I think a pitcher of beer was $2.50. I used to go there for a beer after cross country practice. Also, the fried clams were very good! I believe it was torn down.
  22. Everything that is old is new. SeeTorso murders-1930's Cleveland. They knew who he was but even Elliot Ness couldn't put him away. Serial killers are a beast unto themselves. Our constitutional protections against government intrusions, effected by our police and Court systems are ill equipped to handle this very unusual kind kind of criminal. Thus, few if any inferences can be drawn about the effectiveness of our police, the community, etc. from these events.
  23. I think the location is somewhat of a mistake. A better location would be directly south of the Avenue at TT (the original small SOHIO building site), connecting under Huron to the Avenue. Still get all the connectivity, access to the walkway, etc. Lots of parking underneath.
  24. There has never been a reported incident with the "Ride the Ducks" attraction in any city, much less a loss of life. One sank in Seattle a few years ago. I believe that someone died.
  25. I remember staring out the windows in the Sears library (CIT campus) looking at this building rather than doing my homework. We can see that it is a beauty on the outside. If we can afford to rehabilitate the High School next door why not this small building?
