Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I just don't understand why the Republicans picked this issue to have a hard on about. What is wrong with getting $400 million in federal dollars to impove a frieght rail corridor. Ralph Perk would have been all over this touting how he ad brought home the bacon.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I still don't get the point. E 12th is part of downtown. W 25th is not. I would, however, argue that this part of W 25th is indeed different than E 12th/13th at night. I would and have walked down those two streets at night (staying mindful of surrounding of course). I would never venture into Lakeview Terraces at night..... or during the day for that matter. I am going to report you to the local PC Board in Seattle for that one. Ha ha. I wondered who was going to catch that. Good job HTS!

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
Hmm. Boreas. I was starting to like what you were saying-until you said you were being sarcastic! Anyway, someone who knows minutia about WWII anti-submarine aircraft can't be all bad.

The Mayor needs to step in and stop this. He needs to go to Strickland's office and grab him by the throat. It's like we don't have a Mayor at all.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Agreed. This really bugs me. Why isn't our Mayor's economic development team inviting small (I mean really small) wind turbine manufacturers to Cleveland. Give them free land and 0% construction loans. Everything is here, the tool and die guys, airfoil/aerospace people, electric motors/generators, bearings, etc. Instead, we chase LED manufactures from China. Why is this so hard to figure out?

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
I think three floors is perfect. A more human scale, less of a sunless cannyon in the winter.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I always liked the architecture of these places, a wierd 1930's/1940's vision of the future. I like the site as well with views going down the hill. I wonder if they would make a good market rate garden style apartment complex for normal people.

All the more reason to capitalize on our position and create, lure, bribe in manufacturing jobs now so these people have a job to come home to.

US Economy: News & Discussion
There is a floor to the U.S. consumption economy and we have reached it. There is no limit to what we can do if we convert back to a production/export economy. I wish this was on the political radar screen but it isn't.

What is a female strip club? Is that where females go to strip? Is that where females go to watch other females strip? Is that where females go to watch men strip, or is that where males go to watch females strip? I know there is one more kind but I do not want to get into that. If it is the last, then you just shoudl have said a "strip club". I would have understood that. Adding "female" confuses me.

I really resent it when you make me look stupid. Particularly with facts!

"The problem of what teens can do with their free time is not a new one, and I don't have any answers." I do, its called a job. I worked full time every summer from the time I was 15 years old. I did agricultrual work (a tree nursery) and then factory work. By the time I got home I was exahausted. I couldn't afford to spend the $ becase I needed it for college. I wasn't causing trouble at clubs and it didn't have anything to do with my parents. Get these kids some jobs and all the problems go away. Also, I walked two miles to school every day in a blizzard. Even in the summer!

That is why both the Democrats and the Republicans are bums.

US Economy: News & Discussion
Canada does not and never has subsidized its housing market and their economy is dong fine. There is no longer any justification for doing so in the U.S. It has only perverted the markets, regressively taxed the poor to the benefit of the rich and resulted in boom/bust cycles.

US Economy: News & Discussion
But you can clearly manipulate them. And if so, when aggregate demand falls, why not manipulate them so that it rises until the private sector is employing enough people to stop the manipulation? What taxpayer money? I thought it was a tax credit, meaning that you get that back if you engage in an economic activity that the government deems worthy of crediting back tax revenue to you? This represents the foregoing of tax revenue, which is something that is typically looked on with favor by people of a certain political persuasion. Or are you equating tax credits with subsidies? Because then you have to manipulate them forever. Eventually, the tax payer gets tired of that or runs out of money to pay those taxes.

Cleveland Terminal Tower Observation Deck
EC, any news/information about the outdoor deck on 43rd floor?

Cleveland: Downtown Retail
I for one would find it extremely useful to only have a single Downtown Retail Thread to monitor so that I can correct misconceptions, provide fact-based retorts to fuzzy-headed-wouldn't-it-be-grand-to-revive-Higbee's daydreams, and otherwise crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentations of their women. You mean we arn't going to revive Higbee's?

Cleveland: Urban Gardens & Farms
I don't think this is a surprise to anyone who gardens in N.E. Ohio but we (and New Jersey) have a combination of excellent agricultural soils, adequate rainfall and mild climate. You can grow just about anything here except citrus.

US Economy: News & Discussion
Abscent economies external to the supply and demand system, govenment intervention in market economies is at best only delays the inevitable. Macro Econ 101. You can't fight the markets.
