Remind us all again why you post on an urban-centered message board?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I don't give a crap what he does in his private, off-air moments. When he's on-air he continually bashes the city and shows a STRONG anti-city and anti-mass transit bias. Like somebody mentioned before, now that he's syndicated he has a lot more job security. He could be using that to spread some positive views if he truly held them. He's either a coward or you're mistaken.

Riiiiiight. Are you really expecting us to believe that Bill Cunningham would support light rail? Don't insult my intelligence.

I'm a little upset about World Market. That place had some quality furniture, way above what you can get at Ikea, not to mention a decent wine selection.....oh well

A streetcar could definitely reach the old streetcar landing where Celestial meets Eden Park Drive in front of the Rookwood restaurant. It would be a two block walk to the business district. I think a streetcar to that spot would be a huge win. Mt Adams isn't that big, most residents who would like to take it downtown wouldn't have more than a 5-10 minute walk to get to that spot, and vice versa.

Greg Harris has done nothing but impress me in all his endeavors. I thought he ran one of the most professional campaigns for city council that I can remember. Only thing that hurt him was lack of name recogntion. Good choice by the council Dems.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Agreed, but perhaps even better than rebuttals would be if streetcar proponents simply wrote letters praising the plan and all of its various benefits, ignoring negative articles altogether. That way we stand a better chance of seeming to support a program that will obviously work, as opposed to appearing to defend a system that is doomed to fail. I'd rather see streetcar opponents on the defensive side of this battle. Anybody volunteering to lead the militant/letter-writing pro streetcar task force? I don't have enough time to organize anything, but if we get enough volunteers who are willing to write letters to the editor they'll have to publish some of them. Right? Sound like an idea? Sign me up to write a letter.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Hey, let's look at the bright side. If somehow the NAACP, COAST, Charlie Winburn, The Dean & DanB get their way, Cincinnati will be able to market itself 50 years from now as the last auto-dependant city in the US! Think of the tourism $$$$!

Cincinnati City Council
I dislike Cranley as much as the next guy but those are pretty lame. Republican humor at it's finest I guess.....

^ Right? About 100% of the time I think Pete Witte is a moron. Now THAT is an accurate poll.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
OK. I'm getting upset. Where are all the pro-streetcar council members right now? Charlie Winburn, NAACP and COAST are dragging this thing through the mud and all we have is Bortz defending himself more than the streetcar plan.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I ignore Soapbox because it ignores my 'hood. Bellevue is in the center of their neighborhood map yet they refuse to include it. I've worn out my email trying to convince them otherwise. In all seriousness it's good to have some pro-urban alternative media.

If his pen name isn't pretentious enough just check out his personal blog site: http://jasonhaap.blogspot.com/ I'm ashamed that he and I share a degree from the same institution. I also enjoy the banner at the bottom of the page that just repeats his name over and over....

^ Makes sense. Hopefully 3CDC is making this concession in order to secure their support for more meaningful projects, a little Quid Pro Quo.

Cincinnati: 2008 in Review and Wish List for 2009
I think the concourse and stairs are really the only thing that needs to be replaced w/ US Bank. Sure the arena's old, but it got a major facelift like 10 years go. It's not the newest or prettiest but it's functional. I'd like to think these big structures have useful lives longer than 30 or 40 years.

"Explore Cincinnati" Radio Show
Sounds like a great idea. If you're looking for suggestions, I would like to see a show that focuses on Cincinnati's built environment and transportation issues specifically. Maybe do a segment on different Cincinnati neighborhoods every show.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Can somebody please tell me why ANYBODY takes anything that Jason Haap aka 'The Dean' has to say seriously. The man is a complete idiot, and has protested nearly every good thing to happen in this city in the last five years. Case in point, the hilariously awful songs he posted on youtube protesting fountain square and for Jeffre's council run. Sadly, it looks like they've been taken down. Citybeat should be ashamed for giving him the time of day. Cincinnati is blessed with perhaps the most inept, ignorant, misguided and motley group of activists this country has ever seen.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
lol ... they know what they're doing and everybody knows what's going on. Hey, I'm all for diversity, but keeping these folks around an area that you're aggressively trying to turn around is madness. It seems to me they're making concesions to the old-time OTR activists and NAACP, to show them that they're not just for gentrification.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
You have to wonder what 3CDC is thinking on this one. They're absolutely shooting themselves in the foot. I would be up in arms if I was one of the new condo owners down there. I'm sure this isn't what they signed up for.

Cincinnati: 2008 in Review and Wish List for 2009
Yeah seems to be standard practice. Tarbell did it, and I'm sure most every councilman will do it from now on.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
^Nice find. Just goes to show if you're serious about attracting money to your city, you need to make an investment, no matter the technology. Winburn's idea would do absolutely nothing to attract investment, and the ridership of such a bus-trolley in Cincinnati would have no bearing whatsoever on the popularity or feasability of a streetcar.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Probably a great idea. But more than spelling out other failed attempts, my preference at least would be to highlight the ECONOMIC benefits of streetcars and further forays into light rail. People respond to their wallets. If you make it an investment with a return, rather than just spending money, the response will be much more positive. I agree, but I think the problem we'll run into is that the vast majority of the Enquirer's readership will simply refuse to believe that any sort of investment can help downtown, or specifically, OTR. My father-in-law still flips his lid when I tell him his daughter likes to shop in OTR, and then begins to give me anecdotal stories about violent bums and construction workers getting randomly shot years ago. It's the typical Cincinnati (more west side than east) short-sightedness, and it'll take a huge PR push to get public approval if this thing does go to a vote. Hopefully it won't come to that and when the thing gets built and starts to attract all of the investment, people will come over on their own.

How the city hurts your brain
I'd argue from my own experience that living in the suburbs and seeing house after house on a nice winding street, all built by the same home builder, and all inhabited by the same socio-economic residents, dulls my mind infinitely more than the city. I do my best thinking when I'm around the hustle and bustle of everyday life that the city brings out. It's this kind of witch-doctor psychology that makes it OK for people to neglect inner cities and buy their own half acre of paradise in suburb-heaven.
