  1. This project's not dead yet... http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090523/NEWS0103/905240360/0/NEWS0103/Corporex+confident+in+Ovation+s+future
  2. Even if he does, the Indians pitching is sufficiently awful for our offense to keep us in the game. Still....this is it Homer! Don't screw it up.

Lead singer of Powerman is Zombie's brother if I remember correctly. I was into them in high school; completely not my style anymore but I saw them at Bogarts in Cincinnati and it was a fantastic show.
  4. I will say that the lack of information from the city manager is a little disconcerting. Also disconcerting is the fact that we have yet to see any green from the Feds. Sherman, you say we're close on the funding? Do we have a known dollar amount? I desperately want some good news on this, but every day that goes by makes me feel less confident about this project. Add the revenue shortfall to the list too, I can just hear the opposition: "we fired 20 social workers just so they could build their choo choo to nowhere..." I want some good news! Talk me back from the ledge!

Randy, are those your charts? I'm curious as to where the 13,838 projection came from. I think that's great news, but downtown has only been adding a few hundred each year previously, so going up by 5,000 in 3 years seems a bit steep. I hope it happens.

Bingo. If your company matches your contributions, you need to do everything you can to get the full match. So if your company puts in 3%, don't put in 2%, you're leaving money on the table. After that, the best place, especially if you're under the age of 30, is a Roth IRA. That truly is tax free since you put in after-tax money. Only if you're maxing out your Roth should you go back and put more in your 401k. There is a thing called a Roth 401k but I don't know much about it. My employer matches a full 7% on our 401k's, and then kicks in an additional 10% of our pay every year as 'profit sharing.'

I think everybody in high school should be required to take a class on compound interest. That would have a much greater effect than a personal finance class that focuses on budgeting and the like. Just pound it into their young, impressionable minds. If you save that $300 instead of buying a PS3, you could have $12,000 when you're in your 50's... Let them work out the rest. Let your money work for you. The only way to do that is to SAVE; early and as much as you possibly can. Time is on your side when you're young.

Who needs Suze Orman when we have MTS?

Weird - a writer for the New York Times placing blame on the bank rather than taking accountability himself for making bad decisions. That Bob...he tricked me! If you read the entire article, the guy clearly takes responsibility for the mess he's gotten himself in. But the banks were absolutely enablers in this whole thing, and the part they played should be documented. There's a big difference between Macro and Micro economics. And an even bigger difference between micro economics and personal finance. This guy probably knows everything there is to know about GDP, trade defecits, CPI etc... But apparently nothing about how to live within your means. I'm glad he was man enough to write a cautionary tale about his own short-comings. Of course, I'm sure he's hoping that book sells a few copies.
  10. ^ I believe they're talking about the ENTIRE Banks project, ie phase I, the riverfront park, and all future phases (those that will be by Paul Brown).
  11. Nice work. Good to see OTR is still dropping in most of those categories.
  12. ^ The comments for this article on the website are particularly offensive, even by normal enquirer comment standards. Things do seem to be getting off to a horrible start in OTR this year, as far as violent crime is concerned. Does anybody know where we stand YTD 2009 vs 2008?
  13. The Precinct has never been anything but packed when I've been in there. The in-laws were just there Friday night and said it was wall to wall as usual. I'd imagine that would be the last Ruby's to go under.

Cutler was perhaps the worst sports radio guy this city has ever seen. I've never listened to a guy who took more offense to imagined slights.... He won't be missed. Wasn't a fan of Doc on Sportstalk, though I do think he was starting to come around. C Trent was the best beat writer the Reds had when he was at the Post. Why in the world the Enquirer would keep John Fay and not hire C Trent is beyond me. Like dmerkow mentioned, his blog was second to none for Cincinnati sports. What Cincy sports radio needs: Bring back the Two Angry Guys. I realize Gamble's still on 96.5 but he's on a regular morning show. No sports talk. Give Mark Amazon a full time job on 700 wlw. How this guy doesn't have a full time radio gig is beyond me. I guess he makes more doing whatever it is he does than he would doing radio. Leave Lance on the afternoons on 1530. He's a nice enough sports guy, but he's not good enough to be THE (only) sports guy in Cincy. Bring on Ken Broo full time for the sportstalk job. His Sunday morning sports talk is really the only radio program I make it a point to tune into.
  15. I think what we're looking at is basically the suburbs gone urban. Not exactly the real deal, but a whole lot better than this stuff being built all willy nilly across the country side with acres of parking in between. I'm ambivalent towards it.
  16. Hamilton County needs jails and Cincinnati needs a streetcar. The two have nothing to do with one another.
  17. ^ That's terrible, and if true, this project seems a whole lot more worthwhile.
  18. Maybe Cincy will be able to build a new jail w/ the increased tax revenues they'll see from the massive reinvestment in downtown and uptown that the streetcar will promote?
  19. It's not. But I don't think this will stop suicide; maybe stop it from happening there.

Arroyo was definitely NOT one of the 3 I was talking about. He's so damn frustrating. He'll be unhittable for a couple of starts and then absolutely lose it. 9 earned runs in 1 inning of work....
  21. ^Agreed. Malls, and especially outlet malls, are done as a slam-dunk business model. Lifestyle centers like Rookwood and Crestview Hills and just plain big box stores like Center of Cincinnati in Oakley are clearly the new way to go for retail. I'm not sure what company is developing this but they better hope they can earn a decent ROI in a couple of years. Places like this go down hill fast in this day and age.
  22. Seems like an appropriate time to bring out the hatchet.
  23. and Government vouchers for the less fortunate.

The Reds have 3 legit #1 starters in their rotation.
  25. That parking garage looks like it should be in Barcelona. Very....interesting. Nice shots man.
