Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
Both cities can and should stand on their own merits. Just b/c the US Census Bureau is going to start keeping track of the Cin-Day metroplex (is that still going to happen?) does not mean we should start thinking of them as one big city. Dayton deserves it's own economic development thread if there isn't one already. EDIT: And Randy is quick w/ the link as always.

Other States: Passenger Rail News
Nice map. Seems to me we can add a few decently small connectors (Cleveland or Columbus to Pittsburgh, KC to Tulsa, and Jacksonville to Orlando) and one big connector (OK City to San Diego or LA?) and we've got ourselves one nice, country-wide high speed rail system. Small steps....

Olympia, Wash.
What kind of neo-hippie institution are you letting your kid go to? No grades? No majors?! The school looks like a more interesting version of Northern Kentucky University with all of the concrete and generally ugly buildings. Olympia itself looks like one of those great little burgs that most Americans used to take for granted. Nice set.

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
If I hear one more reference to Cin-Day i'm going to puke. They are two cities, there is nothing but sprawly crap connecting them, no true urban connection. I would ask the same question for Cincinnati. It's great we're so high on the list, but I'm sure most is outside of the city. I know my company opened a huge new building last year on it's Covington campus that I'm sure contributed to Cincy's high rating. If most of this office space is being built outside of the city then we're just continuing the cycle of sprawl and needlessly duplicating infrastructure. After QCS is finished, I hope that Cincy can lure a few mid-sized companies downtown to take over Great American's soon to be vacated old office space. That will be progress.

The Official 700 WLW Sucks Thread!
Not really. A large percentage of people don't vote. Voter turnout: 2008* 56.8% 2004 55.3 2000 51.3 1996 49.1 Are you implying the % that don't vote are more skewed towards the 700 wlw mindset than not? Not sure if I agree with that.

The Official 700 WLW Sucks Thread!
Let's not forget about "Sensible Don," he's on w/ Burbank on Saturday mornings I believe. Nothing like having the token Black guy, who by-the-way they have to refer to as "sensible" as opposed to the rest of the African American community.... Don't want to offend the target demographic.... :|

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
How many of those 11 stories will be above ground? I was under the impression that most would be below. That is a mighty deep hole they dug.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I'm thinking it's supposed to compliment the turret on 303 broadway on the opposite corner of the block...In any case that rendering is pretty disappointing. The promenade and Rotunda seem like an after-thought, but I guess it's better than that strange park that was there before.

visiting Cincinnati friday the 13th - questions
Make sure you stop by the Mt Adams neighborhood. At night if you're looking for a bar scene, or during the day if you just want to appreciate a great urban hill-top neighborhood.

Cincinnati: Bond Hill - Graeter’s Facility
Yeah, I just read it on Forbes. Bravo Graeters. Give Ben & Jerry's a run for their money! I think Graeters has a shot to become a BIG player in the ice cream industry. Their product is so obviously head and shoulders above everybody else out there.

University of Dayton Flyers Athletics Discussion
By Tom Archdeacon | Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 02:40 PM T. J. Houshmandzadeh is headed out of Cincinnati just about the time the Dayton Flyers are headed in. Both have something in common. They’ve each done a lot of losing in Cincinnati..... http://www.daytondailynews.com/o/content/shared-gen/blogs/dayton/throughthearch/entries/2009/03/03/blog_flyers_looking_to_make_so.html

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
We've been calling it The Banks for so long... It would be weird to call it anything else. I understand the negative connotations associated with The Banks, but that will fade with time. Keep 'The Banks'!

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Basketball Discussion
Everyone beats up on everyone else in EVERY league. Conference games everywhere are tough, from the patriot league to the ACC, the reason is familiarity. Memphis seems to be the lone exception to this rule, but CUSA is really AWFUL after the BE raid. Now I'm not saying the BE isn't the best conference this year, but there are not more than 8 teams deserving of a bid, and there are still enough bottom feeders in that league that you can still string together a decent conference record, Pitt and UConn sure haven't had any problems. I've got 7 from the BE in as of right now w/ Providence and UC on the bubble.

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Basketball Discussion
Do you mean come in 2nd? X is much better than 'Cuse this year, no question. How long is Cronin's leash? I'm not a UC fan but this is a looong NCAA drought for a program that once considered itself elite.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
And with all of the bids coming in below budget for the Banks, I'm guessing the same thing would happen with the streetcar if the city gets moving on it.

You're correct. The Dean is muddying the issue deliberately. I believe the $185 submitted for the stimulus would be used on the next two phases as well, and if it was just called 'phase 1' in the request I'm sure it was an omission. Dean, you're insinuating that Cincy would what? Pocket the difference between $185 and $102 and just build Phase 1? Or that all of the previous information is inaccurate and it will cost $185 just for the CBD-OTR loop?
