Favorite Music At The Moment?
Debonair is definitely a lost classic. Great song on a great album. I just got the Twilight Singer's last album, Powder Burns. Unbelievable. That's all I can say. The second track, I'm Ready, is like listening to a NIN/Whigs supergroup. Here's that track set to a weird anime video.

That quote is pretty telling. They're basically saying they have no faith in economic impact studies or any type of rigorous analysis. "We'll just have to see what happens"......

Cincinnati: Downtown - The Lofts at Fountain Square
I loved this place when I saw it during the downtown tour of living. Very classy and you truly are in the middle of everything. Especially love the iron window "baskets" I guess you would call them. Is there only one unit occupied b/c it's the only one done? Or have the others failed to close? I recall many of the units being close to move-in condition a few months ago, and many were pending.

Charlotte: Baxter Village
I agree with you, but I think that this is a type of community that can age gracefully. As the houses get older the owners are going to upgrade in different ways, different types of siding or roofs will go on, and 40 years down the road you'll have a community that looks more 'real.' At least that is the way I envision it. The important part is all the building blocks are there to make this a place that's worth a damn. I think the ideal way to do this sort of development is to lay out the roads, design and put in the business area, and then sell lots individually to homeowners. As long as you have a type of form-based zoning in, and don't allow owners to buy more than one lot (so they can have a bigger yard), you have the exact same development with a lot more variety in housing. Unfortunately, I really don't see this as being feasible to a developer. Now if they could have just moved it a little closer to the city. I know somebody said it wasn't out in the sticks, but it sure looks like it.

Charlotte: Baxter Village
It's blah to me. It just doesn't appeal to me. Let's call places like Baxter Village and really any place that adheres to New Urbanism what they really are - better ways to build suburbs. If you're into urban living it's real easy to see how this could fail to exite you. I will say this, if we had been building suburbs like this since the 50's, our country would be in a much better spot.

Relocating to Cincinnati - How's Job Market?
I guess that depends on what type of work you're looking for. Do you have a degree? What's it in? In general Cincinnati's job market is doing pretty well, all things considered. Somebody who works at a Robert Half type company may have a little more insight. But I can tell you, that of my crowd (20-something, college degrees), I don't personally know of anybody who can't find gainful employment.

Do you REALLY believe that there is nothing left to develop downtown? No surface lots? No under-utilized buildings? No more additional population that can be gained? You are beyond all reason.

I'm all for "fair and balanced" debate, and unlike Fox News I actually mean it. But Dean brings little value to the arguement, and like Fox, he's chosen to deliberately misquote people to further his own goals. Dean, I honestly can't decide if you're a left wing nut job, or a right wing nut job, but...well, nevermind. One thing is for sure - you definitely like to stick yourself smack in the middle of imagined 'controversies.' It makes me glad, that in spite of your fear mongering and not-so-hidden anti-urban Cincinnati agenda, that the 'Nati has built up such positive momentum that nothing you or your arrogant and narcissistic buddies do can possibly derail it. PUN INTENDED.

That is what Im talking about. The Kenosha and Charllote cases are interesting as they started out 100% vintage, but Charlotte converted into a modern system. Kenosha is still running vintage PCCs, though, and I dont know how they get around the accessibility issue. I don't think anybody is opposed to having a few old street cars running on the track. The point is we still have to get the system built to be able to have that option. Your question was vague and I've never heard the Market St line in SF referred to has 'heritage rail.' But if that's what you're talking about then I'm not sure who you think opposes it.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
What? We're talking about a street car system. You're talking about old time choo-choo's that are popular with kids and don't go anywhere in particular right?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
No, No, No, No, NO. The charter is Cincinnati's constitution. Sure, any ammendment can be revoked, but the fact is they shouldn't be there in the first place, and getting them revoked is a MUCH harder task then putting them on. What you're doing is tying the hands of the ELECTED officials of this city. How in the HELL are they supposed to get anything done when all your group of merry men has to do is find 6,000 nuts to sign your petition? And then proceed to run a fear-based campaign against the street car before the vote? Haap, what is your ultimate goal? Honestly. Because right now it looks like it is either one of two things: a.) to make a name for yourself b.) to make sure this city can NEVER compete for the best and brightest

^ I hear you. It's ridiculous. I wish people like the Dean would let the people we elected govern, instead of second guessing them and trying to stir up controversy and drama where there is none. It's nothing short of self promotion and arrogance. Wait, I'm probably being vindictive again. Here's something that's petty and vindictive: doing real harm to the city and metro region where I live and make my living. I'm probably giving too much credit to the Beacon and the Dean, but with every project they oppose, every imaginary controversy or boondoggle they "report" on, they do real and actual damage not only to Cincinnati's perception in the rest of the country, but to the city's ability to operate effectively. Dean, if people want to vote on every single issue they'd watch American Idol. City Council and Mayor Mallory were elected, now let them do their job. If you don't agree, vote them out when they come up for re-election.

Awesome shots. Thanks for doing a little 'work' between bars.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The only thing that is petty and vindictive is you going against every good idea this city has ever had. Need I remind you about your hilariously awful and embarassing Youtube videos protesting 3CDC and their rennovation of Fountain Square? You can parade around with the Green Party cloak around your shoulders all you want, and talk all about how you are for mass transit and want to see this city succeed. But when it comes time to support various proposals to do so you are always on the wrong side. You insult my intelligence.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I did find that post irritating, and I will never understand your point. You say that Cincinnati is not dense enough to support a streetcar? It may be at the low end, but it's proven that investment follows the streetcar. The streetcar system will act as a catalyst to revitalize and repopulate downtown and uptown, and eventually can be connected with a regional system of additional streetcars and light rail. Cincinnati was developed and populated with a street car system in mind. Your opposition just entrenches this city in it's car-dependent ways. How long is it going to take before someone like you will come around? Until we're the last major urban area to not have any sort of rail transit? Until we're sprawled to hell and back? Bottom line is streetcars and light rail promote dense development. More people use the same infrastructure, and some of them can even go without a car. If you can't see past the coal burning, and refuse to embrace the bigger picture then we're all just spinning our wheels talking about this. BTW if I ever see you riding a streetcar in Cincinnati after the system goes in I'll make sure to bring all of this back up.

Let me guess Dean? Bus trolley's with painted lines on the street? Great idea. I'm beginning to think that the Cincy Green's were infiltrated by this lot of buffoons for the express purpose of making the entire Green Party look like a bunch of idiots. Job well done fella's.

Charlotte: Baxter Village
Pro's Great housing designs. Small lots with alleys behind (ala NKY). Con's Off the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere. No traditional grid system, some curvy versions, but there are still way too many trees and open areas between the different pockets of this development. Hopefully that gets (or has been) filled in.
