Um, are they losing revenue because of not having a sky walk or because the market is oversaturated?

Cleveland: Ohio City Advice
Thanks, guys. After spending some more time around the area and talking to those we know in the neighborhood we became less worried about the location. Still, we found another place on 44th near Bridge that is better suited for us; it's a two bedroom and in our price range, so no need for a roommate. Now, hopefully we get this place. Would really love to live in Ohio City and to officially become a Cleveland resident.

Cleveland: Ohio City Advice
I'm moving in with a friend of mine and we have been searching for apartments available on the near west side (Ohio City, Tremont, Gordon Sq). So far, we haven't had much luck. However, we did recently find a three bedroom house in Ohio City that we think is pretty nice. With that said, there are several issues. The house is located on 32nd St. between Chatham and Hancock Ave., which is south of Lorain and I've always heard to stay north of Lorain. We did go through the neighborhood yesterday, and it didn't seem too bad. There were some very nice houses in the area, but there were also some that were in states of disrepair (some were also vacant and one or two seemed to be nearing demolition). Along with that, I'm concerned about the safety of the area. I will be taking the bus/train/bike to school and work downtown, as will my roommate, and I don't want to worry about either of us being at risk at night (I often don't get out of class until 10 pm). One other issue is the price. The house is $990/a month and all the utilities are separate. We didn't want to go above $950/a month, but with the third bedroom we could possibly find another roommate, so rent/utilities could be a non-issue. So, with all of that said, I was hoping to get some advice from UO members and possibly Ohio City residents. Is that location a good choice? Is it relatively safe? Should I be worried about my female roommate walking around the neighborhood alone? Is the price justified giving the condition of the surrounding area? I would really appreciate if any of you could share your opinions/offer some insights.

ODOT Policy Discussion
That may be more appropriate, but I still think the 1950s were the beginnings of America's love affair with the auto, which that mindset then led to decreased rail/transit options in the 1970s (and today).

Cleveland: Edgewater Park
Interesting. It seems that parking attendant booths are in their plan (and subsequent revenue pages). I've always thought this would be a good idea, however my only reservation is that you'll see large numbers of people parking on Lake Ave, West Blvd, Clifton to avoid going into the lot and paying a fee. Same for lower Edgewater. Now that the tunnel is open, you'll have the streets up there being congested with users who want to avoid paying to park at the beach. Could create a big mess for the residential areas around the park. I don't know, it's already difficult to find parking along those sections of Lake Ave, West Blvd, and Clifton nearest to Edgewater. I guess some issues might be seen with people parking in the Detroit Shoreway/Gordon Square and Battery Park neighborhoods though. Then again, a lot of residents park on those streets in that neighborhood as well, so, anyone going to Edgewater might just accept the new parking fees.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
Post this plan and what is "BRT lite"? I don't know about any expansion plan, but I have friends who work at RTA and from my talks with them the agency seems pretty pleased with BRT, so I wouldn't be surprised if what ClevelandOhio said was true. As for BRT "lite," that's what the Enhance Clifton project is considered. I also think that BRT is overrated and was really surprised how often I was asked about it during the APA National Convention in Chicago back in April. Every time Cleveland was mentioned it seemed that the Health Line came up and other planners seemed impressed, but they seemed wildly misinformed about the projects actual implementation.

ODOT Policy Discussion
Sometimes it's really hard to like this state. I'm just really tired in living in a state that is stuck in the 1950s.

Cleveland - A Walk About - Clifton and W117th
This past September I had to pick a site for a project in my Urban Design class and chose to look at the Clifton and West 117th St. area, mainly because I live in the area and wanted to get better acquainted with my new neighborhood. The following are just some of the pictures I took while studying the area. These two are a bit further from the above, but I used them to help inform my design proposal.

Cleveland: Immigration News & Discussion
I believe we have. If I remember correctly, flats east bank and the crowne plaza hotel to Westin conversion both relied on the program for some funding to their projects. I'm not sure about the Crowne Plaza conversion, but you are right about the Flats East Bank project using this funding tool. Flats East Bank project receives $20 million from foreign investors According to the article I posted above, the investors and their immediate family members (spouses and children) receive a green card for two years, after which time they receive permanent residency, but only if the initial $500,000 investment has created at least 10 jobs.

Pet Peeves!
Ok, well, I wouldn't say that I love it either, but it is satisfying in a way. Similar to how in Bridge to Terabithia Jess learns something about the school bully and gains some knowledge on why they're a bully. Random childhood reference, but one of younger cousins is reading the book and we were talking about it, so, it was on my mind.

Pet Peeves!
Not really a pet peeve, but similar, I guess... Don't you love it when a homophobic man, who constantly talks about how he thrives "on a regular supply of b@$ches" but worries about gay dudes, somehow finds his way onto a gay dating site?

Cleveland: University Circle: Centric Development (formerly Intesa)
The videos that have been shared both show apartments that are much smaller than what is being proposed. From the article, it seems that the smallest apartment will be 300 sq ft and will go up to 450 sq ft. These sort of apartments already exist in Cleveland, University Studios on Euclid being an almost direct comparison. Now, I couldn't live in what University Studios has to offer because I like having a full kitchen, but my apartment in Lakewood is around 420 sq ft and it's just perfect, for me at least. These small apartments won't be everyone's cup of tea, but considering the area around Intesa (CWRU and the hospitals) there is a market for apartments this size.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
On that note, the operator of the Blue Line train I was on last night did add a "situational awareness" message to his usual departure announcement as we left Tower City. Not sure how many people paid attention, but it's something. The operator of the Westbound Redline train out of Tower City last night also added a "situation awareness" message to their usual departure announcement.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
Thanks for the suggestions! So are the windows larger in the cafe then? No, they're not any bigger, it just seemed to me that you could see out of them better, plus you can see out of both sides more easily.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
^My advice, don't sit in your seat the whole time, take the opportunity to walk around. Also, hangout in the cafe car, the seats are a little more comfortable, you can get something to eat/drink, and the views outside of the windows are better. Oh, and bring something to read or something to entertain yourself.

CLEVELAND - Wendy Park, August 19th, 2012
Wow, MayDay. I'm a little disappointed, I've come to expect such great things from you, but there's just something lacking in this set. Maybe you've just run out of inspiration or something, but I hope you're not losing your "eye." Perhaps you should let your significant other take the reigns, he's the real talent. Just joking. It gets really old telling you how awesome your photo sets are, needed to change it up. Besides, your ego is inflated enough, why add to it? ^_^

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
What would happen to cities, like North Randall and Richmond Heights, if they don't merge and/or go bankrupt? Would they no longer be cities and then be taken over by the state? Edit: Nevermind, I already knew the answer. I guess I'm just a little slow today

Mansfield-Ashland: General Business & Economic News
GM pact signed, work begins to bring 1,100 jobs 6:37 AM, Aug 17, 2012 | Written by Lou Whitmire ONTARIO -- The developer and Ontario City Council signed the development agreement Thursday for the former General Motors Stamping Plant. That final bit of paperwork taken care of at last night's council meeting, Brownfield Communities Development Company made its intentions clear in an energized Thursday press conference. "You have our commitment that our goal is to take this one large facility that was designed as a single-purpose entity and use our skills to turn it so it can be a facility that meets the needs of businesses that will themselves grow and attract other businesses," said Michael M. Adler, chairman and chief executive officer of the Adler Group. "Our goal is for you to see this location again be a thriving employment hub for your community. We take this responsibility very seriously, and we are committed to make it happen."
