  1. ^I agree with nat, but... There are several cities I would move to if I had the chance, which include New York City, San Francisco, Boston, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. All of these cities exemplify what a city, or what I think a city, should be (looking at the architecture, development patterns, transit, and other aspects of said cities). I don't really care for other parts of America for a multitude of reasons, so I really can't think of anywhere else I'd want to move.

Thanks for sharing, I haven't been to Kent since graduation, nice to see everything coming along. KJP - At the end of the school year they had started to make way for the esplanade extension, so I would hope construction has begun now.
  3. Photos: Buildings razed for parking lot I was not aware that this building was being torn down. It is so ridiculous that this building had to go, there are no parking issues in Mansfield.
  4. Security company may bring 100 jobs Jun. 23, 2012 | Written by Mark Caudill MANSFIELD -- A security company that recently opened a downtown satellite office plans to expand -- rapidly. PLS Protective Services launched an office in the Chase Bank building, 28 Park Avenue West, in late April with 10 employees. Chief Executive Officer Paul Smith said he hopes to offer up to 100 jobs by the end of the year. "Our niche is supplementing law enforcement in very minor things, like vandalism and noise," he said. 5. Jobless rate at 4-year low Jun. 20, 2012 | Written by Kaitlin Durbin News Journal MANSFIELD -- Richland County's unemployment rate is the lowest it's been in four years, according to estimates by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The county's unemployment rate was 7.9 percent in May, down from 8.5 in April. The 0.6-percent drop marked the first time Richland County's unemployment rate fell below the national average -- 8.2 percent in May -- since before 2002. Despite the decline, the county's rate was still higher than the state average, which continued its 10-month decline with 7.3 percent in May. In Mansfield, the unemployment rate also edged down 0.5 percent in May, although it remained above the national and state averages. The rate has been falling since January. Read More... Mansfield set to lose $1M in 2013 6:17 AM, Jun. 20, 2012 | Written by Linda Martz News Journal MANSFIELD -- Mansfield Finance Director Linn Steward said the city can expect to lose about $1 million in revenue in 2013, due to reductions in local government funds returned from the state, and elimination of the estate tax. At a budget hearing to introduce a proposed tax budget for next year, Steward said the city will lose those funds because of decisions made at the state level, beyond the control of municipalities. Council is expected to approve the 2013 tax budget at its July 3 meeting. The proposed figures reviewed by council Tuesday estimated the general fund balance at the start of next year at $2.15 million, down from $2.58 million this year. Read More...
  6. Opinion goes both ways on two-way N. Main Street proposal 6:25 AM, Jun. 3, 2012 | Written by Kaitlin Durbin The divide in opinion on the North Main Street proposal is as sharp as the yellow line that would separate traffic. After discussing the idea May 23, many merchants remain unconvinced the conversion to two-way traffic would benefit their business, let alone Mansfield. But Marianne Cooper, owner of the Richland Academy of Arts, has seen her school through multiple traffic conversions and said there is nothing to fear. Richland Academy, on the corner of West Dickson Avenue and Walnut Street (parallel to North Main), has seen three traffic conversions in 21 years: from two-way to one-way and back to two-way in 2010. Cooper said she prefers two-way traffic simply for safety reasons. Read More...

  8. Part of North Main may go two-way Officials seek comment on 'quick start' to proposed changes May. 22, 2012 | Written by Linda Martz MANSFIELD -- Property owners directly affected by the "quick start" proposal to convert several blocks of North Main Street from one-way to two-way have been invited to comment on the plan. Downtown Mansfield Inc. announced a meeting for 8 a.m. Wednesday at Ed Pickens' Cafe on Main. The city engineering department will discuss its "quick start" compromise plan to make North Main two-way, from Ohio Brass drive to North Park Street. Read More...
  9. His designs are unique but to me are not fitting for a college campus especially seeing how conservative KSU is with their designs I take it you're not a fan of the Gehry building at Case! What about that design is unique? Gehry only has one design in his portfolio, just edited slightly depending on location. And Whipjaka, I think their failure with the Math and Science building might make them more cautious with anything more "extravagant."
  10. ^^Seems like that went over better than College Fest at Kent this year. People were throwing bottles at the police, fighting, and just being stupid. The police tear gassed the crowd to clear the streets. Police break up College Fest after violence ensues http://www.youtube.com/embed/GKGU1_A7X-M
  11. I like the second/third image (the one with the runners). Not to crazy about the others though. There are a couple of newer buildings at UA, CSU, OSU, and UC that I think would be the perfect style for a new architecture building at Kent State, but I'm too lazy to get pictures to show as examples. :/
  12. Well Taylor Hall can't be touched really without permission from the government since it's a landmark but it HAS to be replaced the architecture classes are spread literally in 4 different places around campus while other majors have classes for their majors in one spot. Taylor hall isn't even exclusive to Architecture majors it is shared with communications, also Taylor Hall lacks a lecture hall which is ridiculous. I feel like even though architecture is one if not Kent's top major we get the short end of the stick so this new architecture building is desperately needed. Agreed, Taylor is absolutely horrible and the architecture department really does get neglected at Kent. They need their own building. Let's hope that it isn't completely horrible though, Kent doesn't have a good record with most of it's architecture (Math and Science building, Liquid Crystal Building...pretty much anything that isn't on front campus). I kinda wish they were still considering moving the program up to Cleveland. At least I think that was the plan several years ago. I don't think you have anything to worry about. The May 4th people are very protective of any thing that has to with that event. I mean, have you seen the parking lot? Or the back of the honors college which had to replicate the former hall that stood there?
  13. ^Darn it. It's just a really appropriate gif saying thanks.
  14. Oh, ok. Yeah, PNC Plaza could use more seating. @Musky -
  15. Thanks everyone, I'm glad you liked them. @Murray Hill and ClevelandOhio - I'll try to make it out to University Circle when I'm in Cleveland next, hopefully I'll have my camera on me. @KJP - I don't really think that Perk Park needs any more seating, it seemed like there was plenty. Also, they're pretty comfy for outdoor furniture. @MayDay - Agreed, the renderings for the Med Mart did not inspire confidence, but perhaps that was done on purpose to lower our expectations, lol. @Firenze98 - I really like that one too. Thanks ^_^
  16. I had a great day in Cleveland yesterday; the weather was fantastic and I got to check up on a couple projects. With all the construction and people out yesterday, there was so much energy downtown. I can't wait until I move to Cleveland towards the end of the summer. :) The Flats East Bank is going up so quickly... I'm actually like how this is turning out, it looks better in person. So glad this was rehabbed. When I saw the Calfee sign on UO I really didn't like it, but in person it is better. I really like the trellis Overall, I think the park turned out wonderfully. I really liked the mix of out door furniture and the space is really nice. I'm amazed at how quickly this has gone up. Hopefully it will bring some life to this area and attract more development. Didn't have much more time to spend in Cleveland, so I only got to see a small amount of what I wanted to, but I'm still pleased with what I did see. This summer is sure going to be exciting.

^^^^Gordon, those are awesome. I really like the top left one, but the rest are amazing as well.
  18. But, why? That building looked to be in good condition.
  19. Local jobless rate up Mar. 12, 2012 | Written by Bryan Bullock MANSFIELD -- Richland County's unemployment rate climbed in January, echoing a statewide trend. Its rate was 10.1 percent that month, up 0.8 percent from December, according to seasonally unadjusted estimates released Friday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The jobless rate in Mansfield increased 0.8 percent to 9.9 percent in January. City and county unemployment rates decreased or held steady the last six months of 2011. Read More...

    So did mine.
  23. Mentor Headlands is a great beach (one of my favorites, in Ohio), but they also face similar issues with branch removal and the like (but not to the scale of Edgewater). Like Edgewater, Mentor Headlands is also state park.

The City Planning Commission on Tuesday approved a site plan that would allow businesses to buy or lease land in an area north of Crall Road and west of Airport North Road. It is adjacent to the 179th Ohio Air National Guard's 60-acre expansion project. The project, designed to build businesses on former farmland near Lahm Airport, is known as Phase III of Reid Industrial Park. Read More...
  25. Wind farm delayed Jan. 27, 2012 SHELBY -- The company behind a north central Ohio wind farm says the project is moving forward, but not as fast as it hoped. Construction will be delayed at least a year from the original start date, the company confirmed Thursday. "The soonest we would start construction is 2013, and it could even extend to 2014," said Scott Hawken, senior project manager with Oregon-based alternative energy company Element Power. Read More... Pentagon plan could end C-27J program Written by Bryan Bullock News Journal MANSFIELD -- The Pentagon outlined plans Thursday to shrink the U.S. military, including a recommendation that could end an aircraft program at Mansfield Air National Guard Base. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said termination of the C-27J Spartan aircraft program could put roughly 350 full-time jobs and 1,000 part-time jobs in jeopardy and raise questions about the future of the base. "There's no question that we need to reduce our deficit. But we shouldn't do it on the backs of the hardworking men and women of the 179th Airlift Wing," Brown said. Read More...
