Jobless rate dips in Richland County Written by Bryan Bullock MANSFIELD -- Unemployment dropped sharply in Richland County last month, the second consecutive plunge. County unemployment fell 0.6 percent from February to March, bringing it to 11 percent, according to seasonally unadjusted estimates released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. During the same period, the jobless rate in Mansfield dropped 0.7 percent to 10.4 percent, the lowest it has been since 2008. Kevin Nestor, president of the Mansfield-Richland Area Chamber of Commerce, said while the unemployment rate is moving in the right direction, it is too early to tell how many out-of-work residents have actually found jobs. Where to live to split the difference between North Canton and Kent?
Based purely off of commute times, I think Tallmadge would be great for the both of you. Tallmadge to Kent is about a 5-10 minute commute and Tallmadge to North Canton is around a 20-25 minute commute. You can also keep Kent as an option, it would only add about 10 minutes to your commute (pretty much make her commute nothing) and you would be in a town with more to do. Another area to consider is Cuyahoga Falls, which is about 10-15 minutes to Kent and 25-30 minutes to North Canton. However, my favorite area is Highland Square in Akron which is about 20 minutes to Kent and 30 minutes to North Canton. To narrow it down, could you list amenities that you look for in a neighborhood or anything else that you need to be close to?

Cleveland: Little Italy Neighborhood Discussion
Sorry to bing this back up, but I think that Hts121 has an outdated view of Little Italy in that it is not as racist as it once was. I have black friends who frequent LI and I have seen several black people who work at some of the Italian restaurants. So, there might be the rare case of racism, like at the feast as a poster mentioned up thread, but I think for the most part Little Italy has come a long way on that front.

NJ EXCLUSIVE: Ontario is Calisolar's first choice 2:28 PM, Apr. 5, 2011 | Written by Lou Whitmire ONTARIO — Calisolar Inc. is focused on making a $750 million investment in Ontario, and a consultant today said Calisolar is in the final stages of negotiations. “At this point it is a sprint to the finish,” said David L. The average wage of the new full-time equivalents will be $21.63 per hour, plus $3 per hour in benefits. Calisolar has committed to hiring at least 10 percent disadvantaged or minority persons, as defined by state law, if the company comes to Ohio. Read More...

Akron: Highland Square: Development and News
andrew0816 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI am not aware of anything that would have changed the condition of the neighborhood from when you used to live there. If anything, I would say that it has improved slightly. I really like Highland Square and I am slightly jealous of my friends who live in the neighborhood. Edit: To get back on topic, I am glad that HS finally will have some type of grocery option, hopefully it is not too expensive.

VOA wants to build facility near Mansfield Correctional 6:53 AM, Mar. 8, 2011 | Written by MARK CAUDILL MANSFIELD -- The local Volunteers of America plans to close its facility on North Main Street and build a new one near Mansfield Correctional Institution on Ohio 13. VOA officials will make their case before the city planning commission at 4 p.m. March 22. If the city planning commission approves the request, it would go to City Council. The VOA has been a source of contention because it treats sex offenders, many from out of the county. Proposal would reunite Mansfield's Central Park 6:45 AM, Mar. 5, 2011 | Written by LINDA MARTZ MANSFIELD -- A proposal to restore Central Park to its former undivided state has been unveiled. The plan calls for eliminating the split established in 1958 when a Park Avenue cut-through was built through the middle of the park. If the proposal goes forward, Central Park would no longer be two separate spaces, and it would be possible to hold large public events downtown without having to close North and South Park streets to accommodate pedestrians, proponent John Siegenthaler said. Spring Break - NYC
^Thanks MayDay. Little update, taking Megabus out of Pittsburgh ended up not working out so we are going to take Amtrak to NYC. I know that the station in Cleveland has long term parking, but I am concerned about leaving my car in an unsecured lot for a week. Would you recommend parking the car at the station or should we have a friend drop us off and pick us up?

Spring Break - NYC
Thanks CDM. Well, my friends and I have decided on a place to stay and our transportation situation has been figured out, so, does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do on my first trip to NYC? We already plan on checking out the Empire State Building, Little Italy, Chinatown, FAO Scwartz, and hopefully some other things, but is there anything that I shouldn't miss? Also, any recommendations on good restaurants that aren't too expensive? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Gilead's $35 HIV Prevention Pill Fails to Win Support By Michelle Fay Cortez and Simeon Bennett - Feb 28, 2011 4:17 PM ET Gilead Sciences Inc.’s Truvada topped Time magazine’s list of medical breakthroughs for 2010 after a study showed it may achieve a goal pursued by scientists for a quarter-century: a pill to prevent HIV infection. Three months later, the advance has hit a wall. While study findings show the drug prevents HIV in non-infected, sexually active gay men, doctors say they’re wary about giving healthy people a $12,000-a-year medicine that has side effects including nausea and kidney damage, and may not be used as regularly as needed. They also say they’re not often asked to make the drug available for that use. “We’re not seeing people beating down the doors,” said Kenneth Mayer, medical research director and co-chair of The Fenway Institute, a clinic that serves 15,000 people in Boston, including several thousand gay men. While a few patients have asked about using Truvada for prevention, perhaps for their healthy partners, Mayer says he doesn’t know any clinic doctor who has prescribed it that way. Read More...

Spring Break - NYC
My friends and I are in the process of planning a trip to NYC for our spring break. We are planning on going from March 19/20th to March 25th (so 5 or 6 nights). I am pretty sure at this point that we are going to take Megabus to NYC out of Pittsburgh. I am not sure if my friend in Pittsburgh will be able to help us out or not, so I need to find out if there is some place to park my car for a week downtown that is safe and relatively cheap. So, if anyone has advice or information on that, I would really appreciate it. Also, we are still not sure where we will be staying while in NYC, but I have found five different places, but I am open to recommendations (keep in mind that I am in college, so I would like to keep it as close to $100 a night as possible). The places that we are considering are the Jazz on Lenox Hostel (104 West 128 Street), Chocolat Hostel (850 West End Avenue), La Quinta Queens (37-18 Queens Blvd), Days Inn (31 36 Queens Blvd), and Lafayette International Hostel (484 Lafayette Avenue). I would like to know if anyone has opinions on these establishments or their locations. As I said earlier, I am not set on these four and I am open to suggestions. If you need any more information from me, just ask. I am grateful for any advice or recommendations that people have, thanks in advance!

^I am pretty sure that Euro Gyro and all of the frats are safe from demo. Most of the frats sold off their parking lots (I believe one refused to sell, but eventually decided to sell) and I don't think the transit center will take up the entire block. I think the following is the area that the transit center will take up: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=41.152845,-81.355616&spn=0.002343,0.004823&t=h&z=18&msid=212094344421687032104.00049c924e5d4d5487415
