Cincinnati Part 1 - Downtown Part 2 - OTR and UC Part 3 - Clifton and City West Part 4 - Mt. Adams Since I had never been to Cincinnati, I decided to make a little trip to the city and do some exploring. I was very impressed and hope that I can make another trip sometime in the near future. On the trip I visited downtown, OTR, UC, Clifton (or what I think is Clifton), City West, and Mt. Adams. I really like this building. :)

Visiting Cincinnati 6/29 - 6/30
I know, but I am going to try to do as much as I can in those two days. Plus, I can always come back down for another visit. :) I have another question, is there anywhere to park downtown for free or for a very small fee? Also, would you recommend walking between downtown and OTR or is best to just drive between those two areas.

Visiting Cincinnati 6/29 - 6/30
My friend and I are visiting Cincinnati next week and I wanted to get some advice on where to stay in the city and about things to do while in the city. I was thinking about staying at the Quality Inn on Montgomery Rd, but I wouldn't mind recommendations for other hotels that are similar in price and no further out than that hotel. While in Cincinnati, I know that I want to explore downtown and OTR, but I just wanted to know if there are places that I must check out. For example, when people ask what to see in Cleveland I often recommend going to the WSM, East 4th St, and The Arcade. Also, I am looking for recommendations on places to eat that aren't too expensive. I also wouldn't mind going to a hookah bar (so I need recommendations on good hookah bars) and maybe a good gay bar/club (like the Interbelt in Akron or Bounce in Cleveland), if they won't be dead on a Tuesday night, lol. Since I will have my camera with me, does anyone have recommendations on where to get good skyline shots? Also, is it worth it to visit Eden Park? Are there any other parks that I should try to visit in the city? Thanks in advance!

Whatcha Reading?
I just finished reading How I Paid for College: A Novel of Sex, Theft, Friendship, and Musical Theater, by Marc Acito. It is a very entertaining book that had me laughing out loud. Sadly, the Mansfield Library doesn't have the sequel. :( Over the last few months I have read: -The Sookie Stackhouse novels (all 10) by Charlaine Harris -Hero, by Perry Moore -The Screwed-Up Life of Charlie the Second, by Drew Ferguson (A wonderful book, I highly recommend it) -The Vast Fields of Ordinary, by Nick Burd -Code of Conduct, by Rich Merrit -All the Pretty Horses, by Cormac McCarthy -The Pick-Up, by Nadine Gordimer -Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, by Tennessee Williams (not a book, but...) -The Brother's Bishop, by Bart Yates -The Sixth Form, by Tom Dolby -The Story of General Dann and Mara's Daughter, Griot and the Snow Dog: A Novel, by Dorris Lessing -Closet Case and When You Were Me, by Robert Rodi I also re-read The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown, by Robin McKinley

Mansfield halfway house to expand Closure of another local facility bolsters VOA BY ERIK SHILLING News Journal • June 17, 2010 MANSFIELD -- A downtown halfway house will be expanded by roughly 50 percent of its current capacity this fall, adding 30 beds, state officials said Wednesday. Mansfield Volunteers of America director Carrie Benham-Daniel said she learned in May the North Main Street agency would receive an additional $700,000 from the state for corrections -- money freed up by the closure of Crossroads, another local halfway house, which shut its doors this month. "The bottom line is that there will be 18 fewer halfway house beds in the county," Benham-Daniel said. Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
When my friends and I rode the train last weekend we overheard and saw many people making fun of the announcements; especially the "no one wants to hear what you are having for dinner" bit. I think, and many others that I have talked with think, that the announcements need to be shorter and to the point; announce the station, say a quick blurb about no food or drink on the train, quick blurb about noise related to cell and mp3 use, and if it is a touristy station (Tower City, 25th, and University Circle) mention near by attractions. Also, a lot of people dislike the guys voice. Overall, too much is trying to be said and I don't want to hear announcements the entire way to a station (like from Tower City to 25th and 25th to 65th).

Best Movies Ever Made?
If a movie has wonderful writing, good acting, and through those factors (and others) get me attached to the story where I cry when something horrendous happens (which is a very rare occurrence); I consider it one of the best movies ever made. This would include the movie I just watched, The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas. I didn't read the description of the movie, I just had a vague idea of what the plot was; so, the ending really got me. I cried my eyes out and my mom came into my room to see if I was ok.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Well, I believe that there is a need/demand for train service between the 3C's. Even if there wasn't a large demand for it right now, gas prices are going to continue to rise and driving is going to continue to become more expensive. I think that waiting until we have no other choice but to build a rail service is extremely risky and short sighted. It is better to prepare for the future, satisfying today's demands and allowing for easier expansion when that demand increases.

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
I was also involved in the Pizza Hut thing, but I think that the incentives to do better should change as children age. When I was in high school those of us who were in the top 20 of our class got tickets to Cedar Point. This could be another way to encourage older students to do better in school.

60 jobs cut at School Specialty in Mansfield Reduced education spending a factor NEWS JOURNAL STAFF REPORT • MAY 16, 2010 MANSFIELD -- Reductions in education spending around the country have caught up to School Specialty. Representatives for the provider of educational products and equipment for the pre-kindergarten to 12th grade market in the U.S. and Canada confirmed Friday the company cut about 5 percent of its work force, or about 115 people from throughout its U.S. operations of 2,250 people. The Greenville, Wis.-based company said it will cut 60 full-time workers at its Mansfield site -- the largest cut company-wide, School Specialty spokesman Mark Fleming told the Appleton (Wis.) Post Crescent on Friday. The local operation employs about 330 full-time and seasonal workers, Fleming said. Read More...

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
327 - I just wanted to address some of the misinformation that was in the other posts. I know that a lot of them can not be persuaded, but I hope that some will read what I posted and change their minds or think about the topic more. I won't loose any sleep if my efforts are of no use; I also believe that there are enough people who support this. As for your last statement, I am not pissed off and notice how I said: So, there was really no need for you to provide that quote because I never said that all of the posters were irrational or that not one of them had a valid point.
