  3. Every time I mention to someone in my family (well, the ones on my step dad's side, most of whom are suburb lovers) that I went to Cleveland or want to live in Cleveland they always ask me why and then make comments about the 'crime' and how there is nothing to do. I then give them my reasons for loving the city and then they eventually admit that they haven't been to the Cleve (except for games) in like 20 years.

Another wonderful set! My favorites are 11, 15, and 17. Thanks for sharing these with us!
  8. Figuring out why people commit heinous crimes is very difficult. There is a wide range of factors that could influence people to do horrible things (environment vs nature). As for giving this kid the death penalty, I don't know. What he did was horrible and I can't possibly imagine what the families of the victims are going through. However, what justifies taking a life for another life? How can we as a moral society kill someone for killing someone. In the end, I guess we will have to let society decide what is right through the jury at the kids trial.
  9. So, does the absence of my father and a "positive male role-model" mean that I am going to start going on killing sprees? I think that this has less to do with whether or not this young man had a father in his life, but more to do with his socialization into society and the possibility that he might be a "bad apple." Not that that is an excuse or anything; what he did was wrong and he should be punished for his crimes.
  10. That is so sad. I am so mad that this building wasn't saved, it looked to be in good condition and it had plans for its reuse.
  11. City block grant requests aim to fight blight By LINDA MARTZ • News Journal • February 24, 2009 MANSFIELD -- City Council seems inclined to sprinkle funding from federal block grants on deteriorated housing during 2009. [email protected] 419-521-7229
  12. ^I see your point, but wouldn't you still need more to go on to come closer to catching the criminal(s)? Not to mention, maybe the witnesses didn't get a good look at the guy(s) and couldn't tell what their race was. I think it would be better if they had a mix of descriptions, especially something unique about the guys (like if they have an identifying feature that could help lead to an arrest).
  13. Maybe they don't have a good enough description of the criminal (like sex, race, height, weight, dress, or anything else that could lead to an arrest). I am not sure that releasing the criminal's skin color would do much good. If all they have is race, how could that possibly lead to an arrest?

I had no problems with the link. I used to have an account on there, but I forgot my name and password and just gave it up. I like Metropolis on Facebook, however, you don't actually get to see your city on there. Metropolis is more about balancing your budget, populating your city, and building stuff (they appear as icons) that keeps you citizens happy and your coffers healthy.
  15. That is one awesome double. If I only had the money... Thanks for the tour!

    ^Yeah, I didn't pick up on that.

Haha, it is actually delicious and it apparently is a Mansfield/Central Ohio thing.

^Maybe I should have put the wink smiley in the last sentence. I was being sarcastic; I still plan on making a trip to Cincy.

Wow! Parts of Gary look like they were just bombed and left to lie in ruin. Great photo tour.

I can see that anyone from Cincy is going to misconstrue anything that I (or anyone north of Cincy says). I never said that Cincy was not Metropolitan. I never said that Cincy was rural (and neither did paljandro). I can not speak for others, but I was making an observation about a slight difference in accents of people from southern Ohio compared to those who live in northern Ohio. Never did I say that one accent was better than the other. I also never said that having a slight southern accent was a bad thing (and I know that not everyone in Cincy has an accent; I talked to a friend of mine from Cincy last night and she said that people who have an accent is more of a family thing). I don't think that a southern or great lakes accent should have any negative connotations. Some people on here need to stop being overly sensitive. I am sure that Cincy is a really great city, however, I can not say for myself because I have not had the opportunity to visit Cincy. This summer I planned on making a trip down there, but seeing how some of the Queen city's residents reinforce that nickname, I might just cancel those plans.

So NEO isn't rural? Tell that to the Amish, then get back to me. I never said that. If you re-read what I wrote you will see that I made the point that although Ohio has metropolitan cities (like the 3-C's) the majority of Ohio is pretty rural. By that logic, that would include the Amish community in NEO, which is outside of the city and in a rural area. Every region of Ohio (whether it be NE or SW) has a rural area. Rob- Who would leave a shredded chicken sandwich in the road? What a waste!
  23. I would, but I am no longer registered in Richland (something that I am thinking about changing) and I am pretty sure that he is not up for re-election. However, if he ever decides to run for a higher position, I will let him know that my vote would depend on his stance on issues that I support/don't support.

edale- Stop being a betch and just admit to yourself that the Cleve is awesome. Seriously though, palijandro points out in the beginning of his post that he was making generalizations about Ohio. I have friends that are from Cincinnati and they tend to have a 'typical' southern accent (just like some Clevelanders have the NEO accent). I would also like to point out that his generalizations about the rest of Ohio tend to be true (the one saying that the rest of Ohio is pretty country). I took that statement as meaning the rest of non-urban Ohio (you know, places outside of the 3-C's and other metro areas); in other words, rural Ohio. Again, he was making generalizations and didn't go into an in depth examination of the different cultures that make up Ohio and her cities. Also, I know it is random but I was wondering if shredded chicken was an Ohio/Midwest thing? My step mom is from Oklahoma and she had never heard of shredded chicken and she said that they don't even sell the canned shredded chicken stuff in Oklahoma. It just amazes me because shredded chicken is the shiznit.
  25. ^Fixed. Also, every response that I get from Senator Harris is always like that. Tells me some random information and then promises to keep my thoughts in mind but never tells me whether or not he supports the issue at hand.
