  1. I think it would be great to have a couple of light rail cars shipped down from cleveland or some other light rail city, park them at the tunnel entrancel to the subway so all the people driving south or north on I-75 can view them when they are sitting in traffic and make them think that they don't have to be slaves to the automobile.
  2. Have you seen pictures of liberty st before they widened it?? wish we could go back in time!
  3. I went up there last week and was shocked at the size of the project, the one thing that bums me out about the uc area is the traffic, people drive like maniacs and crossing the road is like crossing the old fort washington way in parts. I am not against new construcion but some of those old buildings that were torn down were beautiful, and I'm bummed to see them not there anymore.
  4. OTR is so large there is plenty of room for all income levels...it will never be hyde park so the thought of gentrification of OTR is an oxymoron. The new gateway project, Art institute and various condo conversions going on now is the start of the rebirth of the area I believe. I am diehard preservationist as you can see from my previous posts. I believe that every contributing building still standing needs to be saved. There are a few non contributing buildings in OTR that I hope would disappear from the landscape..The Medcenter on liberty, KFC, Shell station, free store foodbank and the newest eyesore the cell tower north of liberty at Walnut.. How the Hell did that get put there???!! The church steeples used to be the highest point in the sky and now there is an ugly cell tower ruining the historical skyline. I am thinking that maybe calling or emailing people like Moll from urban sites in other cities and tell them about the urban stock we are waiting for them to bring back to life might be something we all can do.
  5. This is the kind of thinking that has no place in OTR. There are plenty of vacant lots to build on but chances are it isnt going to happen and the more original buildings that are lost the less chance anything will be rehabbed, or anything new will be built. That building is a diamond in the rough.. just my opinion
  6. I'm just mad they used Cincinnati in the malls name!! they should have named it something else, not cincinnati mills! another thing to make our great city look bad!
  7. I went up vine st today forgot the camera of course, the building is HUGE at street level. it will be a BIG broken tooth if it comes down, I am against any demolition of any "historically contributing building" in OTR. or any other historic district. Go down and see the building up close it NEEDS to be saved!
  8. Just dug this off of a google search..... OTR’s Kaufmann Building Threatened With Demolition The fate of the Kaufmann Building, located at 1721-1725 Vine Street in Over-the-Rhine, hangs in the balance. In 1988 the building was severely damaged by a fire that destroyed the roof, cornice and part of the rear wall. The Abandoned Buildings Corporation, a group dedicated to saving derelict buildings in Over-the-Rhine, then bought the building and “mothballed” it until a new owner and new use could be found. A second fire, in 2003, further undermined the structure. Because of the building’s rapidly deteriorating condition, the City of Cincinnati’s Department of Buildings & Inspections proposed to demolish it as a public nuisance. At an October 29 hearing, community leaders offered eloquent testimony to the building’s architectural significance and its potential as an anchor for the struggling Upper Vine business district. The City’s Department of Community Development & Planning, supported by the Over-the-Rhine Stakeholders Group, expressed interest in saving the building and will conduct a preliminary engineering study to determine if it is still structurally sound. The Stakeholders Group, an OTR citizens’ organization working on a neighborhood Master Plan, has also requested the City conduct an engineering and streetscape design plan for Upper Vine so future streetscape and façade improvements in the area can be funded. The City voted to continue the matter for 60 days, after which time the building’s fate must be decided. An imposing Renaissance Revival apartment house four stories in height, the Kaufmann Building is one of the dominant landmarks of the Findlay Market area. It was built in 1876 as an investment by the Kaufmann Brewery, one of Cincinnati’s most successful brewing operations of the 19th century. Kaufmann ranked as the city’s fourth-largest brewing operation in 1871 and sold its beer in six Southern cities as well as Cincinnati. For more information about the Kaufmann Building, contact CPA at 513-721-4506 or the Vine Street Subcommittee at 513-260-8434. http://www.cincinnatipreservation.org/images/kaufmann.gif

That area sucks ass.. Sprawl for miles and miles all cookie cutter homes.
  20. sports bars suck unless F1 is on the screens. I would rather drink at home with friends and watch the game, it might be good for attracting people though so I am all for a major sports bar to land a place here.. just keep it close to the stadiums!
  21. Someday I hope. OTR is my favorite place in Cincinnati, I love it's history the architecture, the people, minus the crackheadpimpshoedrugpushers.
  22. I like the old forest fair mall better with the ferris wheel $1. movies, food court, minature golf, arcade. Cincinnati mills is lame cheap overpriced dollar store junk, I bet they go out of business. Guitar center is the only reason for me to come close to this place.
  23. I was dissapointed in Cincinnati Mills, it is better than Northgate mall though.
  24. Seasonal views make you appreciate the view even more, maybe it's just me but..
