Lakewood: Development and News
I'm glad to finally see it coming along. I wasn't a big fan of the design on paper but they look pretty good in person. I hope this can provide some momentum to the eastern end of Lakewood.

I think the construction on the north side should start soon. The signs on the lots say that a few are sold already.

^ I agree. You have to move on from manufacturing. Automation will continue to eliminate jobs. We must transition to the knowledge economy, which I think is slowly happening.

Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
I always hate to see historical structures go especially with the vacant lots that already exist downtown. Seeing new construction in its place will soften the blow however.

I had a feeling that this housing model wouldn't work in this market. The Cleveland market is very affordable and there are too many other houses in the same price range.

Electric Cars
^ people are very irrational. i have friends that make way more money than my household and never save anything in Roth IRAs, college funds for kids, or even basic long term savings. What they do have are houses that too big and too expensive, new luxury cars every few years and all kinds of financed luxury goods.

Cleveland: Population Trends
^ That's my thought as well. On a hot summer night in the suburbs or neighborhoods with detached homes, people would hang out in their backyards or front porches. I don't really see the harm in people hanging out in these plazas. I actually think it adds eyes on the streets and vibrancy.

There is a difference between a park and an urban plaza. An urban plaza populated with people is no big deal. It is out in the open and visible. Parks are more secluded and not well lit. You making an apples to horseshoes comparison.

Cleveland: Retail News
I use to go to this mall as kid. I remember it slumping in the 90s and being redeveloped with Kaufman's and a Food Court in the late 90s. It's sad to see it go again but the combination of retail decline and urban sprawl have taken its toll on this mall.

Scared suburbanites watch 19 Action News and think that it is scary for people to be in city park at night. The whole report baffled me when I saw it. Part of the reporting talked about the murder that took place there, as if another murder would happen in front of all of those witnesses. I still don;t get the need for police intervention at all. It seems that the "trespassing" is a minor issue at best.

Police clearing the park at 11PM? So much backwardness in this town, it is amazing.

^ i remember 19 Action News running a scare story about families being in the park late at night. As an urbanist I was like, vibrancy is great. But the scared suburbanite news viewers only saw brown immigrant families "terrorizing" the city. I guess they would prefer a deserted public space.
