Cleveland International Welcome Center
Check out the link below: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/09/clevelands_welcome_to_the_worl.html I hate to see the Jewish Federation leave Cleveland, but the location by the CSU campus seems ideal for an international welcome center.

Cleveland: Kamm's Corners: Development and News
I live in the middle of all this and am really excited about all the change. It really is amazing what a streetscape can do to a neighborhood. That being said, this project has dragged on for too long. This project started in 2007 and it's still not done. Construction did not end last month. The historic light posts have yet to be installed on the soutside of Lorain west of Rocky River Drive. There are still old utility poles along the southside and there is still quite a bit of concrete work to do where the original poles were removed. We were told this would be complete last year.....then by July 4th....then the fall. Now, it's starting to snow and we're being told that the remaining work and street paving will be bid out next year if they get federal stimulus dollars. I don't intend to sound negative, but seeing how quickly they did the streetscape work around Gordon Square on Detroit, 4 years of construction seems excessive. The Euclid Streetscape didn't take this long. Hopefully, there is a good reason for all the delays and cost over runs.

I disagree. It's the lowest building in the block and at one time the plans called for a research building and a street or alley through there to the convocation center, so the tear-down isn't anything new, just a confirmation of a previous decision to tear it down. Not every building is worth saving, it might have other problems that aren't apparent but that would be really expensive to fix. We'll see. Hopefully the park will be nice, and since they're already talking about it providing some space for outdoor dining maybe it will lend itself to a pedestrian mall like E4th. I can understand your point of view. I, too, like the idea of having some sort of access alley to the convocation center as it was planned with the sensor research center. Unfortunately, that planned building is not going to happen in the near future and the 1910 Euclid building being completely removed is going to put a huge hole in what is a nice collection of buildings still intact along Euclid. I guess it's better than a parking lot.

Actually, from reading the article in the Cleveland Stater regarding the "urban park", it looks like they are planning on tearing down the Best Steak & Gyros building. That would be a terrible mistake. Where is the Urban Affairs department in all these decisions?

Unfortunately, there is usually more to the story. I work for a company that plays the political game and I see all the big players in our office regularly. You can never tell what the politicians motives are, but you cannot ignore the facts; The Ratner Family contributed to the campaigns of Jackson and Cimperman, so keep that in the back of your head when listening to these their arguments.
