NWSL closest team location is Louisville. This is a great opportunity to have Cleveland as a destination for cities like Detroit, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Columbus (bit closer than Lville) where families want to bring their girls to see women's soccer. Awesome opportunity for Cleveland if we can get it done. 12-13,000 seats= great outdoor venue for concerts.

Cincinnati: Xavier University: Development and News
Xavier considering rebooting football program By KEVIN FLAHERTY Apr 27, 4:18 PM Xavier University is looking into bringing back its football program for the first time since the school canceled it in 1973, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier. Xavier athletic director Greg Christopher told the Business Courier that the school was looking at bringing back the program as a means to boost enrollment. “We continue to explore football, and I continue to flippantly say it’s a definite maybe,” Christopher said. “It’s a model of using sports teams to boost enrollment.” Per the report, Xavier's enrollment for spring semester is 5,729 students, down 1,100 students from spring 2019. Football would bring in another 105 student-athletes, who would pay their own way in a non-scholarship model. ... Christopher told the Business Courier that wouldn’t be the case this go-round, as Xavier would aim to join the Pioneer Football League with programs like Dayton and Butler, which don’t have scholarship players. Using those programs as baselines, Christopher said Xavier could stand to bring in $3 million in revenue per year with about $1 million per year in expenses. Most of that revenue would come from tuition, room and board paid by student-athletes. “It’s essentially the same model that Division III teams use,” Christopher said. “We wouldn’t have this conversation if it weren’t net revenue positive. It’s not a matter of taking resources from anywhere else.” More below: https://247sports.com/Article/Xavier-considering-rebooting-football-program-209076363/

Cincinnati: Xavier University: Development and News
This is where I would have thought it could go. Though the area along Dana also seems logical if they can fit it in along the path that is mentioned (living in Cleveland, I don't have as much knowledge of that plan and proposal.)

Yes. I am a X grad and have some good contacts. I cannot CONFIRM, but hearing that both a medical school and football team are a "done deal". I would say, though- until I see something official, I am skeptical. There is a big push to improve MALE enrollment at X. Football will be a driver; a medical school can obviously help as well.

Hopefully, no. But it is possible. Ideally a new stadium is built, surrounded by medical school building (s) and housing. And hopefully a facility that can be used by students when not in use for the football team. The soccer (and now lacrosse) facility is excellent for those sports and should be LINED and kept for those sports.

I doubt the timing and planning would work, but putting a 8-10,000 soccer facility where the Wolstein Center sits could be ideal. I know in the CSU masterplan there was mention of a "Partnership District" without a clear path. With a parking garage already across the street and an area yearning for activity, I would love to see this spot land a soccer stadium. Considering that it will also be used for concerts and other sports and non-sporting events, what a great location near a hopefully GROWING CSU!

Down goes another store in Tower City- LIDS was cleaning out their location as I headed to Dunkin Donuts for coffee this morning. A walk through a short time ago shows no hats/closed shop for Lids.

I LOVE the idea of doing this [/member] Wolstein spot as CSU definitely needs a smaller facility. I also love to see that so many on this board are excited about the potential of USL. I still am a heavy lean to not thinking MLS- it just is not realistic based on what many say here. Go with the best possible 5-8,000 seat stadium. Make it a TRUE soccer destination type facility for the USL team, special events, HS playoffs, etc. Create a demand to WANT to go to the facility! Find the right niche. Make it comfortable and make it as "Cleveland friendly" as possible- no dome, but roof going around like the big boys (and some of the small boys) do in Europe. I would love to see something like this: https://www.frameweb.com/news/bord-studio-bottles-a-big-atmosphere-into-a-small-stadium Side note when it comes to CSU: CSU hopefully can build a 5,000-6,000 fieldhouse type building that lets LIGHT IN during the winter- ala Hinkle Fieldhouse (Butler). Again- make it a destination type spot, make it "Cleveland friendly".

Stones Levee/Scranton Peninsula area with a tie in to a redeveloped back end (or is that the front end?) of Tower City with a potential indoor soccer training facility would be a dream. 5000-6000 seat stadium that could also be used for concerts, HS soccer (Ignatius, playoffs, etc.). Perhaps also try to draw an top 25 Akron Men's soccer game here once a year- maybe even a BW vs. JCU or JCU vs. Case/ Akron vs. CSU doubleheader. With our relationship with the MAC basketball, perhaps a tourney could be born there too with Ohio and MAC colleges. I wouldn't realistically even think about MLS. I am all about thinking big, but, for right now, getting a successful USL franchise, development, etc. would be a huge win. To get this type of facility that could also then help for propel Cleveland as an area for more US National Team games (Men or Women), CONCACAF games, etc. would be amazing. New outdoor/indoor facility would be used for training and practice for the US or national teams and Browns stadium would still then be used for the actual US Soccer, CONCACAF, Gold Cup matches. Dan Gilbert is all about getting an MLS team in Detroit, but perhaps this should be a focus the help build on TC, Q, etc.

Not sure if this yet deserves its own topic (move or remove if necessary), but some interesting tidbits... "The next step is a complicated one, because it involves building or acquiring a facility that will house a United Soccer League team." http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20180715/news/168266/force-sports-lofty-goal-return-cleveland-force "According to Kleps, the USL would prefer that all clubs have soccer-specific stadiums by "the end of the decade." And the earliest the Force could return looks to be 2020, provided a venue (with a minimum of 5,000 seats) has been acquired or constructed. The Abrams brothers told Kleps that they are in that process and that various sites, including in downtown Cleveland, are being considered." https://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2018/07/19/owners-of-force-sports-want-to-bring-pro-soccer-back-to-cleveland

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
Does anyone have information about what is going on between where the new Wahlburger will sit and the Casino parking lot- in the empty space where they tore down the beautiful old building? I work @ SW and they are putting slabs of concrete down. Looks to be a patio maybe for Wahlburger (with cut out for doors) and perhaps some lighting features and even a large cut out of what could be landscaping or grassy area.

Agree completely!! First thing I thought of was the Seinfeld where Kramer/Jerry lived across from "Kenny Rogers Roasters".

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Wanted to post this in "Filling in Euclid" chain, but see that is due to be locked (or locked already). Can anyone with influence get the plywood "wall" on the southern side of Euclid btwn Bang and Clatter and Jimmy John's covered? It would seem a collaborative vinyl "poster" that advertises the "Casino this way" or "Enjoy the Healthline" or "East 4th Shops and Restaurants this way" could be done. While we would all prefer something go INTO that space, right now it just needs a better cover!

Akron: University of Akron: Development and News
The JAR already seats 5,500 for B Ball. The downtown arena is not going to happen. It's a done deal. UA will replace the JAR with a 12,000 to 15,000 seat arena on the actual campus and not downtown. I realize what it currently seats. The site lines of those seats (for many) are terrible. Where is the link to this large facility you speak of with a "done deal" comment? Or, am I to assume that Tom=Jake?
