  1. Just because someone is of a different race or ethnicity than you doesn't mean they're going to kill you, rob you or are even trying to intimidate you. Everyone for the most part minds their own business--I'm getting tired of reading sentences like this. Also, if you're going to come down here with a notebook and a pencil like you're on some kind of safari I don't think I'm alone in saying I'd rather not have you down here at all.
  2. I bet all the people in City West would appreciate the streetcar service, and it could stimulate the Linn St. business district...
  3. Oh I totally agree, I just try not to be confrontational. If nothing else, I could do without the trash that usually gets left behind.
  4. I don't mind the guys on my stoops too much... occasionally I'll have to shoo a few away to get in my place but I usually just ask them to sit on the other stoop that doesn't lead to an actual door. Also I've always known that building as Harkavy Hall but a little research has yielded several names at various points in time.
  5. That was a program for a couple of units in Centenial and 10K for a unit in Bremen. The money would have to be repaid if when the unit sold there was a profit. If not, then no. That is how I understand it. Private grant money. Once again, that is how I understand it. Additional grants are available for units in City Home. That is mostly correct; the idea is a "soft second" mortgage that only needs to be repaid if we (the owners of the Bremen unit) decide to sell before 5 years of occupancy and turn a profit on the sale--after 5 years the second mortgage is completely forgiven. That being said I probably wouldn't sell if I was offered double what I paid, we like our place and the neighborhood that much. But the special mortgage was definitely what attracted us to the unit in the first place and it fit our grad student budget perfectly. If there's money to do this again for future units in the GQ I absolutely encourage it because it's a great idea. This fits with what I'm looking for too. Basically a Grammer's open every day with an expanded bar food type menu and a good selection of beers on tap. If it creates the right kind of atmosphere (not too sports bar, not too stuffy) it could pull in both the casual passerby and theatre/symphony crowd simultaneously.
  6. Hey all. Long time reader, first time poster. Does anybody know what used to be on this block before the structures that were razed for this development were there? The reason I ask is because my wife's father is doing some of the foundation/land removal work on this project and he's been finding some pretty interesting "artifacts." He's found glass apothecary and soda bottles with various company names and "Cincinnati, O." stamps, all of them being corked rather than capped. I'm thinking turn of the century or a bit later. The only thing my limited sleuthing skills can dig up is the Jewish synagogue on the corner of Rockdale and Harvey, but their work right now is primarily in the area facing Burnet, bounded by Erkenbrecher and Rockdale. Any thoughts?
