Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
CincyIntheKnow replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere was a mixed use gas station and retail development planned for the Liberty/Elm plot, but they got such negative feedback from OTR council they dropped the project. And that Shell is not going ANYWHERE. He makes TONS of money.

Now that their trading chips are gone, expect the next bit of news to be a free agent signing. Aoki? Cabrera?

CincyIntheKnow replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionMy band started writing a surf song called "Surf Cincinnati" back when Surf Cincinnati was still open. It was a decent song but not as good as: Is it bad I want to start a petition to make that the official anthem for the West Side? (This coming form a West Sider)

Not to diminish the role others have played to this point, but I think Mr. Flynn is doing a good job of finding solutions, rather than politicking. If we had more Flynn's and fewer sticks in the mud, the city would be much better served.

While your point is noted, I believe the word you are looking for is "retro". Most of those elements are time period specific, with a twist.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
The car "savings" come into play when you are more than one person in a car. While it is a great sell to a business person or young and single individual, taking a family of four is still much cheaper by car than by train, unfortunately. And the latter are often the voting public.

Is it bad I am skeptical that Lucy (Kasich) is waiting around the corner to pull away the proverbial football?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
It's all a matter of perspective. You might say broken, another might say a relic of pre-historic district status. I know for a fact that the owner has tried on numerous occasions to use that sign, but can not get approval due to new rules.

Butler County: Development and News
Agreed. And I'm wondering how Schumacher benefits if the deal falls through. I think you are barking up the wrong tree... Schumacher does a TON of development up there, and does not get anywhere near this assistance. It's not jealousy per se, but more of a call to level the playing field. Interpret as you like.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Color me still unimpressed. They go through a tiny bit of effort to differentiate the corners, but it mostly amounts to a white cap and bland spandrel glass. If they were to make more of the inset corner out of the glowing white paneling then it would be a decent compromise. The corners would set off the building nicely with greater color contrast than what is currently proposed, and it would have a nice effect at night, but still maintain the horizontal banding they seem to want. The being said, the devil is in the details. A blah building can be detailed nicely and really improve the aesthetic. (To be honest, I don't have much hope for this considering the "watercolor" rendering effect and short building timeline)

Is it me or does it seem like they are shooting for completion by all star game 2015? They are FLYING.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Renaissance Hotel (Bartlett Building Redevlopment)
Granted, I haven't seen it in person. But those photos show an exquisitely detailed and integrated adaptive re-use of a historic building.

Oddly enough, I just spoke with the owner of that property yesterday. They are quite aware of what is happening around them. There are other factors which will play into the development of that site.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Mabley Place (formerly Tower Place Mall)
I would like to see it get reused... As it is connected to what is left of the retail in tower place.. It seems like it could be a challenging fit as it is a lot of Square footage and it has two floors. It is a shame TJ Maxx left... as a store in Newport is not really a substitute for a store in DT... I can easily go on my lunch break to a DT location.. I would not drive to Newport. I would think both could stand on their own. Probably some corporate policy where you cannot have multiple locations that close together or something. They had a lot of problems with theft at that store.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
CincyIntheKnow replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionBoth the downtown Skyline locations are corporate-owned. If you want something to change contact the corporate office in Tri-County, the store general manager has little power. That being said bfwissel is spot on. They make so much money in such a short amount of time in that large location, by comparison the dinner would be seen as nothing but a disappointment until there is more population to support it.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fourth & Race (Pogue Garage) Redevelopment
Yea, it does seem a little bit like this whole thing was orchestrated to keep a grocery store OUT of this development. Kroger does seem to be interested, at least somewhat, in a downtown Cincinnati grocery store. Could this whole debacle be on Kroger's behalf? http://www.wcpo.com/money/local-business-news/kroger-co-kr-harris-teeter-acquisition-could-lead-to-new-downtown-cincinnati-store No, the developer is the party that would want the grocery store requirement lifted. (not the city or Kroger). While I don't doubt that the developer would prefer the low margin grocery store requirement be lifted, I think that the fact that the deal was reworked to remove that requirement raises an eyebrow or two.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fourth & Race (Pogue Garage) Redevelopment
Anyone else feel there is a "follow the money trail" conspiracy to why the grocery store component requirement was removed? If nothing else Cranley cares about his political future, and heeding the call of those with deep pockets and long-standing political clout in Cincinnati is a wise move on his part.

Cincinnati: CUF / Corryville: Development and News
CincyIntheKnow replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThey are set on renovating 5/3 because they are land locked. If this opens up then they can build a brand new state of the art arena while still occupying 5/3, then move in at completion. If 5/3 was to be remodeled they would have to rent US Bank during construction, and it was going to amount to no more than lipstick on a pig. (i.e. no major changes). A brand new building and they can compete directly with US Bank Arena for shows and events.

I will withhold final judgment until completion, but at first glance I wish it wasn't so dark.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
Few problems with the above proposed graphic. 1. The lone property that is necessary to accomplish the re-routing of Wasson (south east of the roundabout) is a successful strip center with an office tower above (read point 1) 2. The gas station at the north west could stay, but it makes a blah roundabout. I don't think you would get that property without a big fight. 3. Rumors are the bank at the south west wants to relocate, so I don't think it will be a problem there. 4. This is not Europe, and I can only imagine the traffic jams/accidents that will happen when people who do not understand roundabouts are forced to use one in such a ridiculously high traffic count intersection. Heck, the roundabout at the old Beechmont Mall has been a traffic nightmare and people avoid it like crazy.
