Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
CincyIntheKnow replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat Photoshop job is horrendous. It is quite obviously a joke. Doesn't mean I couldn't try to get a rise out of UO. (Especially those that love the Terrace Hotel brick tower)

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I think Bob Castellini lobbied too successfully for the all star game. It should have happened once the second phase of the Banks and the streetcar were completed, at least a year or two later.

Cincinnati: Corryville: University Village
Is this where UC makes a ploy for the property to build a new basketball arena?

I don't believe CR is responsible for the design of this phase. That being said, it is not bad... just uninspiring.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
CincyIntheKnow replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentLookin' up Cranley, the Gold Star fam is Eastern Orthodox. A lot of Chinese in the US are Christian. The David family is Orthodox Christian, but they only own the corporation and a few stores. Since I sincerely doubt that the particular store staying open was a company-wide mandate, I think it's safe to assume the franchisee that owns that particular location decided it was worth staying open (no matter his/her particular religion).

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
As someone who supports the streetcar, and knows the David family personally... don't be ignorant. You are letting your distaste for Cranley's politics make you sound like a poster on cincinnati.com

Any summary?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The man is either a political savant, being tutored by one, or is extremely lucky. He turned a lose-lose situation into a win-win, and he is making everyone else do all the work. If I didn't despise him so much I would buy him a beer.

Cincinnati: Uptown: UC Athletic Facilities
Going to be nice to see this project get going. At the last minute UC added in 3 more private suites due to demand, all 21 suites are sold out. That is great news for UC, a huge cash infusion to a cash-strapped program. One would think though that if they keep selling out, why wouldn't they provide more than 21?

If there are two competing issues on the ballot, the one with the most votes prevails. The one with the most total votes or the one with the most affirming votes?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Did anyone at the meeting yesterday read Flynn's words on the streetcar from the last election and ask him why the change of heart? I think there needs to be more specific calling out of individual members so they do not have safety in numbers. Mann: If you are so certain that the federal funds will not be jeopardized by this delay then personally guarantee the money. Murray: Is there any information you can hear that will convince you that this is a worthwhile project? Flynn: Has the additional 17 million really changed this from a no-brainer must complete project or has something else happened? Smitherman: As a responsible representative of the people of Cincinnati have you read the information provided on the streetcar? If so how can you reasonable ask questions about 3 phases and 450 million dollars? Are you genuinely concerned or is it a strawman's argument? I am noticing those in favor of the streetcar are doing all the talking while the others just sit there. Maybe if we get them to talk we can catch them.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Cranley's and Murray's dismissive remarks about the presentation, suggesting the numbers are unbelievable, unfairly impugn the integrity of John Deatrick, who's done so much more for our city than THEY ever have. This is the man who got the reconstruction of FWW done with dispatch (and on or under budget), and of course finally made The Banks a reality. He's even been lauded for the quality of his work, for crying out loud. Shame on those 2 political grandstanders for insulting the kind of public servant everyone should be grateful for. I must confess that a 1 year clock to wind down the project is rather unbelievable. Make it 3 months and the numbers do go down, although not significantly. I think the message would have been better served with a quicker timeline.

I am still hoping this is his end game, and it is all political posturing that streetcar supporters are playing in to.

I actually think this is a reach. So what, the firm he worked for was hired to represent a company relocating. That hardly means his interests were represented. Most of us are design professionals on this site. Does even half the stuff we work on that gets built accurately reflect who we are as individuals? No.

By any chance do you want Saks and Tiffany's to move? While I can see the advantages to the move, I think the urban residential renaissance is bound to lead to urban retail renaissance, and Saks gets incentives like all get out to stay downtown. It is not a slam dunk case for them to leave. Also, it would be a pretty big blow to have two prominent corners and such large tenants leave downtown for the burbs.

Cincinnati: CUF / Corryville: Development and News
CincyIntheKnow replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionAnd what is the point of posting this profile? Totally uncalled for. Considering all the factors that go into the final execution of a built design, hardly worth villifying the designer (if it in fact was him). Mods should remove this. Am I happy with it? No. But everyone needs to remember, that if building these developments in a nicer manner was economically feasible or in high enough demand, someone would have stepped up to do it by now. They aren't, so this is what we are stuck with. You want better bad enough, either build up demand or step up and do it yourself.
