  1. I was talking number of people, not economic impact. While I agree that it would be a great winter event at a time when the city is typically in hibernation, and in general I am very excited about the notoriety/ prestige it could bring, I am skeptical of the idea of it being a "game changer" for the city.
  2. Rumors that the Sundance announcement is in the next couple weeks. Cincinnati is still the favorite, and I have been told it could be a game changer for the city. While I love the prestige of landing a top international film festival, I don't know how much development it will really spur. It is currently attended by 120k over 2 weeks, with most of that happening the initial weekend. While the hope is numbers will jump with relocation, these are not huge festival numbers (compared to taste of Cincinnati, Octoberfest, Macy's music fest, even a Bengals game). For the sake of debate, why do you want Sundance? For you is it more about the event itself, the notoriety that comes from hosting it, the positive momentum it builds for the city, or something else? Edit: can a mod move this to Cincinnati News. Sorry!!!!
  3. I wonder if Sundance might sway support in a particular direction? The mayor prefers the convention center site, but it would not be ready by 2027, if they get the SFF. He might change to the west end site, if certain schedule guarantees are met.
  4. Did I miss something, was the project denied?
  5. I think part of the "courtyard" is an outdoor dining patio. I think they should push to make the rest of the courtyard public accessible, but otherwise am not that offended that it doesn't meet the street because all of south Liberty does not.
  6. Nice spaces, but only shots of the interior. I'm curious how the exterior looks.
  7. I don't have any new info, just what I heard in 2020/2021. There is a chance things have changed, but I would be surprised if 3cdc abandoned the plans completely.
  8. My interpretation was that the existing arena is a prime site for an office or residential tower development. The arena would be located by the convention center or tql.
  9. No, but the have already announced part of it (where Jean Ro Table used to be)
  10. My bad. It's still a cool building that didn't get much press.
  11. Salvagnini America headquarters in Westchester was years ago and larger
  12. 3cdc has a plan for both sides of Vine north of 7th.
  13. It was a great listen. He talked about how they visited during and were blown away by Blink. What a great showcase for the city and also so Sundance could see that their festival could really grow here. (Attendance for Sundance is approximately 160k over 10 days, Blink was over 2 million in 4 days).
  14. As cool as having Sundance would be, it is still only a couple weeks a year. I think "cementing" is a bit of an over statement.
  15. Anyone else tried it yet? Thoughts? It is like a chai-spiced (cinnamon and nutmeg?) ice cream with crunchy crackers. I came away surprised by how good it is, but not sure how much of it I can eat (pumpkin pie is awesome, once a year).
  16. Emory, memorial, and music halls along with all the theaters were a part of the bid.
  17. Cincinnati has been narrowed down to a top 3 finalist for the Sundance festival relocation with Boulder and Salt Lake City, and in some circles is named as a favorite. The bid is centered around OTR, using many of the existing art venues, and is slated for 2027. I am skeptical it leaves the west until I hear otherwise, but what a huge turn of events this could be! Announcement expected in early spring.
  18. Prominent... from the street. They decided to make the fountain a part of the pedestrian experience in a square instead. It is widely considered a civic success, Even with it not being as visible.
  19. Disappointed about the parking lot(s), but the courtyard, if done nicely could be an asset. Somewhat related... at what point will 3cdc start developing their surface lots.
  20. Our restaurant is down about 10 percent, but we are further south than the Levee
  21. Plus Indianapolis has a much bigger convention business. Supply and demand...
  22. I'm guessing cheap Chinese renderings
  23. Beyond the venue, they are not selling as well as they should because the exorbitant prices they are charging. Luckily it is a short drive for UD fans, who are notorious for supporting their program very well. I do expect it closer to a sellout though, the crosstown shootout just happened, so now UC fans should be ready to focus on this game.
  24. Here is my reasoning why the convention center site is superior: -Timing: We have an arena that functions and will work until land is freed -Cost of land is practically free -Proximity to hotels -Duality of use with convention center -Plenty of parking in garages rather than just undeveloped lots -Along with the renovated convention center it can spark development of the West side of downtown and freed BSB land -Visibility from cut in the hill can be a skyline asset The casino site only works if it is privately funded and the casino wants to do a Nationwide Arena district development around it to develop all those parking lots, but casinos don't want you outside. Look at how that anti-urban building was designed. So if it has to be publicly funded anyway, I just don't see it happening by the casino.
  25. I get the current site, but I don't understand the casino site. The infrastructure isn't there like at other locations.
