Sears / Kmart News
My saying clevelandcentric had more to do with my attempting to understand his logic. It was saying I know you're from cleveland so naturally you want your city to get business but i disagree with your opinion.

Sears / Kmart News
I really should have quoted clevelander which I think would have cleared up some confusion. My post was in response to his allegations. I felt he was stating that cleveland was a charity and far more deserving of a company because people in NE ohio need it far more then central ohio. I became slightly annoyed with the contention that columbus was being handed sears from kasich at the expense of the other cities without merit of their own and that Columbus is a drain on the state because of ohio state and state govt. Again I would be happy if ohio landed more jobs period from other states and countries regardless of what city the company decided to go to. Ohio needs to work together and shelve the rivalries. I feel we sabotage ourselves as a state with petty rivalries and would be benefited much more as a whole if we worked together.

Sears / Kmart News
Not trying to rag on cleveland by any means. I really like cleveland and have relatives who live there. Maybe saying this board is clevelandcentric is not an accurate statement. That being said I don't agree with the notion that ohio shouldn't be interested in bringing in companies from out of state if they are only interested in locating in one city in that state. Cleveland is not a charity and I feel that its insulting to the city and greatly discounts clevelands positives by even insinuating that. This is also not a case in which columbus is stealing clevelands jobs with the states help which I would be irate about. If columbus even gets sears(which is unlikely) it will have obtained sears on its own merits, not at the expense of cleveland with financial assistance from the state.

Sears / Kmart News
I guess my thought is that if sears says "we've looked at all the options and we are only interested in columbus for possible relocation in ohio" then why should the state say we aren't interested in bringing you to ohio. I'm not saying that ohio should or should not try to bring sears but I guess my thought is even if a company chose to locate in findlay or portsmouth I would have no problem with it as long as it is in ohio. Its not columbus's fault that sears isn't interested in cleveland. Again what major retailers are hq'ed in cleveland or northeast ohio? The limited and abercrombie being located in central ohio have nothing to do with the state government. I don't remember anyone in central ohio complaining when american greetings recently got money from the state. Also if osu is such a drain on the rest of the state then using that logic northeast ohio is even more of a drain with cleveland state, Akron, and kent state all in the area. I understand this board is clevelandcentric but as a resident of columbus I probably would be annoyed if a fortune 500 company that was only interested in cincy, cleveland, toledo, dayton, whatever had the state do nothing to make it attractive for that company to come to ohio. The mentality that the ohio cities shouldn't be working together to bring business into ohio is archaic in my opinion and detrimental to ohio's growth. Ohio's cities have differences that will allow companies to have a good fit somewhere in our state. Apparently sears feels the best fit for them in ohio is columbus.

Sears / Kmart News
Based on what I've read and been told by certain people who are pretty reputable, Columbus was the only ohio city that sears said they were interested in relocating to. Supposively, all 3c's were pitched but sears showed the most interest in Columbus because of the limited, abercrombie etc.., ohio state, and columbus's reputation as a growing city. I mean it sort of does make sense if you look at austin being the other competitor. They clearly are going for a young workforce.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Unfortunately, probably about the same thing osu gets. According to posey and his lawyer they have proof in paperwork that he was not overpaid for his summer job but they state that the ncaa has told them they have no interest in looking at it. That tells me that the ncaa already has their mind made up on what they want to do with osu. Hopefully I'm wrong but I feel in the ncaa's mind these circumstances are the same as penn st,miami, or usc in which reggie bush's family had a 350,000 home bought for them. I mean even north carolinas issues were more severe last year and osu has already been punished more. I feel they are attempting to make an example out of the bucks.

Tiffin Revisited
Yes, Tiffin University and Heidelberg University are both located in Tiffin. I'm not quite sure what their economic impact is although I'm sure it helps. Growing up in Findlay, I never really got the perception that Tiffin was really a college town. Tiffin Univ. was more of a commuter school in the 90's although I've heard that has changed in recent years.

Franchise Re-location
That's some deep Cleveland sports history there Hts! Thanks. In the 70's there was a rival league to the NHL called the WHA in which the Cincinnati Stingers and the Cleveland Crusaders played. The crusaders moved to minnesota when the barons came to cleveland. The stingers where actually included in a merger plan with the NHL in 1977 in which the NHL rejected. The WHA then merged with the NHL in 1979. The stingers were left out and disbanded.

Franchise Re-location
I do feel Columbus and central Ohio could support a NFL team but really that's a moot point because in my opinion the only way Columbus could get a team is if the Bengals relocated. Interesting on what grounds/research? I guess the grounds I'm referring to are more hypothetical than anything else. I'm not saying that the bengals are actually going to relocate but I could see a time in the future where bengals fans become so disgruntled with the mike brown family that they would not be willing to pony up money for a new stadium or upgrades to paul brown. I find it hard to believe that the NFL would be interested in columbus with 5 nfl markets within a 3hr drive and 2 already in the 7th largest state. Thats why I feel that columbus could support a team in the short term and possibly the long term with success in central ohio's growing population base but it would make it much more fiscal sense and make it much more attractive to the NFL if they had only one competitior in ohio and a larger population base to draw from. Certain conversations I have had with people in the know in the past have given me the impression that the brown family is extremely loyal to cincy and ohio. Relocation to columbus was supposedly an option that at least was brought up in passing prior to the bengals securing paul brown stadium as a way for the bengals to keep at least some fan base and stay in ohio. Again, the people I spoke with I feel are very credible but take that for whatever its worth. LA seems to be the main target right now for the NFL as it probably should be. San Antonio has a NFL ready stadium currently sitting there and the NFL has really been pushing to make the game a international game so I feel if they think they can make toronto or mexico city work they will go for it. If they go to Europe I feel it would be with multiple teams. Population does not equal market or market share. There are so many variables. I understand. There are possibly aspects of central ohio that may make it feasible for the NFL to place a team there without any sort of movement by the surrounding competitors. My thought is that there are much bigger fish that the NFL is currently looking at that make columbus more of an afterthought at least currently.

Alamosa, Adams State College and the San Luis Valley Region of Colorado
Thanks for the pics, seems like a nice town and a pretty area. I did think it was pretty neat that the football stadium had dorms(assuming) with balconies connected to the stadium so students can sit on the balconies and watch the games. Definitely one way to increase capacity at your stadium. Adams State has also been somewhat of a cross country powerhouse over the years in division 2. A good friend of mine from high school went there on a cc scholarship and then ran in the olympic trials. That's my useless knowledge for the day. :)

Franchise Re-location
I do feel Columbus and central Ohio could support a NFL team but really that's a moot point because in my opinion the only way Columbus could get a team is if the Bengals relocated.I can't really see any scenario in which the NFL would give Columbus a franchise when Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis are all around 3hrs or less away. Columbus is a mixed bag of nfl fans ,although I think Browns fans would be a majority, and there are alot of people who have other interests that may be more popular than in other cities but if jacksonville , Indy, New Orleans and Buffalo can sell out a stadium so can columbus. It would be a tough go with 2 other ohio teams which leads back to my point of cincy relocation. I just can't see the Nfl having 3 teams in ohio which is more of a reflection of the NFL not trying to saturate a market more so then columbus not being able to theoretically support a team. You are completely right about steelers fans overrunning columbus although that may have something to do with the amount of people who have moved to columbus from eastern ohio/western pa and of course bandwagon fans. I mean 8 of 15 people in my immediate office are orignially from the pittsburgh area.

Any idea when the deal will be finished? I was under the assumption that the deal was done but after reading that it is only a proposal I am slightly concerned that it is going to be hijacked by short sighted people screaming"corporate welfare".

Near Eastside Columbus Progress
I wonder if the proximity to nelsonville and the hocking valley had anything to do with the amount of brick structures in columbus compared to dayton and cleveland. Columbus also had a large influx of german immigrants,as well as cincy, that were skilled bricklayers and emulated the architecture of their home country. I know dayton had german immigrants too so it would probably be interesting to see data about immigration patterns coinciding with architecture. I know that doesn't explain recent brick construction being minimal in cleveland. Who knows?

Franchise Re-location
As much as I would love to see hartford get another team I really don't think it would happen. The provence of quebec has tenatively backed quebec city with money for a new arena if the chance arises. Hamilton was also a city that was originally in the mix for the coyotes before the league shut it down. Kansas City has a new arena and is pushing hard to acquire a relocated team and in Las Vegas there is a proposal for a sports complex with a new basketball/hockey arena and a stadium for unlv.

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
A move to the east would be fantastic! The schedule would be much more attractive as far as a gate and competition issue. The jackets have been very competitive against eastern conference opponents. In fact the jackets were second in the western conference behind Detroit in w/l record against the eastern conference last year. As a comparison the jackets were 11-4-3 against eastern conference opponents where as they were 7-9-4 versus northwest division(van, edm, cal, minn, colorado) and 8-11-1 versus pacific division(sj,ana, pho,la,dallas).Actually for the past 4 years the jackets have winning records against the east. 8-7-2(09-10),13-3-2(08-09) and 6-3-1(07-08) and at 500 the 2 years prior.

I understand they are leasing space but I wasn't sure if this was taking the place of the tower or if this would be in addition to?

Van Wert County: Development and News
Any idea if lincolnview owns that land? Upper Scioto Valley high school in hardin county leased land own by the school to a wind energy company and the company built a wind academy on school property. I've heard that this is now a curriculum offered by the school and that the company will pay for scholarships for kids who want who go through this academy and make wind energy their career.
