Van Wert County: Development and News
Yes I believe that northern van wert county is slated for a wind farm. Hardin county is also slated for 2 I believe. In fact when I was driving through kenton on my way to maumee I noticed that there was an office in their downtown for hardin windfarm llc.Very interesting to start to see the windfarms pop up around ohio.

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
I agree with really alot of different aspects of the viewpoints here. First I will agree that COTA stinks and if it doesn't the perception is that it does. I don't know how many people I know complain about COTA's inconsistencies. I was married last year downtown and had friends and relatives come in from all over(NYC, Minneapolis,Chicago,DC, etc..)whose only impression of Columbus was what I had told them. They went to Franklin Park Conservatory and to make a long story short ended up calling taxis because the bus never showed up. 3 buses passed by the stop and when they called COTA they were told that because of mechanical difficulties it would be 2 hours before another bus would stop. This was one of their first impressions of columbus. We can't be a great city until we get great public transportation. Cota also does a horrible job marketing themselves to people who own cars. Secondly, Keith you're right in the fact that parsons ave,s high,etc.. need alot of work before they are ready for primetime. While city money is necessary, private investment is also a key.No matter if you like the Childrens Hospital expansion or not it seems to be creating a buzz amongst people I know about how this could spur economic development in the area. For whatever reason the perceptions seems to be that parsons ave may now be a safer investment for a business. Whether that actually happens I don't know.I do feel Columbus does have other urban neighborhoods especially if you consider clintonville is really more then one neighborhood,as is the university district, and brewery district and schumacher place is also separate from german village.I mean we are talking about a pretty good chunk of land that is pretty urban.Even if parsons is completely revitalized for example it would have to be really hip for it to get any notice from the NY times. I mean I would be perfectly content to have urban working class neighborhoods that are functional and benefit the city of columbus's residents and let german village and the short north get all the press. It seems columbus is attempting to invest in urban neighborhoods such as franklinton while at the same time invest in suburban areas. It really is a balancing act and unfortunately it sometimes is easier to justify widening hilliard rome rd(which is part of columbus) that is a large retail corridor and has large traffic congestion(safety) then spending money on a much less populated or traveled area. Not saying its right but that seems to be part of running a city.

NCAA Men's Basketball: General News & Discussion
My favorite sports time of year is finally here! Its great that dayton is getting an expanded hosting role and that cleveland is also hosting. I wonder what kind of money hosting brings in to the cities? Columbus, cincinatti, and dayton are all hosting for the womens tournament this year and I believe columbus is hosting the mens next year at nationwide arena as well as dayton again for the play in games.

Columbus: Attracting Young Professionals
Honestly I believe columbus and ohio for that matter has a voting bloc of more progressive people right now to push through progressive urban agenda. It really is a matter of getting these people to vote in elections and not just the presidential. I don't know how many people I spoke with had no idea Kasich was against the 3c rail line until after the election.

Columbus: Hollywood Casino

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
The jackets are still in the hunt but they literally need to treat each game as a must win! I guess we need to root for every eastern conference team when there is interconference play as well.

Galena and Sunbury, Ohio
The facade of the meijer building in westerville is what was required of meijer by the city when it was built. Some of the newer designs of meijer stores, especially in chicagoland are actually pretty decent considering its big box retail.

2022 FIFA World Cup
Both the Russia and Qatar votes reeked of corruption. I actually took time to watch all of the 2022 presentations and felt that Qatar had one of the worst. If you really were solely interested in bringing the game to a region that had not hosted it before wouldn't have Australia been more logical. How much energy is it going to waste to air condition all of these outdoor stadiums. Its like air conditioning a house with all of the windows open in 110 degree heat. What a waste! Not to mention being located close to Iran,Iraq,Afghanistan, and Pakistan.Hopefully those areas won't be as volatile by then but that seems to be inviting trouble.Really the thing I can't get over is that its a country smaller then Columbus with only two cities over 35,000.This isn't the Olympics where a city hosts but the world cup in which a whole country is supposed to be represented. The IOC completely dismissed the Qatar bid as not even comprehensible.Lets not forget the sponsorship laws that have been compared to slavery that seem to help get all the shiny skyscrapers built. You don't think theres going to be some huge human rights violations occurring to build those 9 stadiums.Although I think its great that they are going to reassemble the stadiums in poor countries, doesn't the US get some credit for the billions of dollars we give to poor countries each year? Don't get me wrong,I think Doha and Qatar are very cool and I would like to visit them someday. I'm sure their laws are fairly progressive for middle eastern countries. I just don't think it's suited for the world's biggest stage. Oil money buys votes I guess.

What effect has the economy had on you?
I'm actually doing fairly well. I got married, bought a house, and am going back to college after 10 years. My wifes salary keeps increasing as a nurse practitioner which has actually allowed me to step down from my job and work part time while pursuing a 2nd bachelors and a masters in something I actually will like doing. Apparently we both have been pretty lucky considering my wifes hospital is undergoing a huge expansion and my prior job keeps posting large profits. I actually turned down two large pay raises to step down. Hopefully that wasn't a stupid decision! I think alot of companies are much more frugal right now but, at least in my case, have money to retain employees if push comes to shove.

Mansfield - Walking Around
Actually, Marathon is no longer headquartered in Findlay, though it still has a major presence. I would suggest that being a college town is as important as corporate HQs. University of Findlay may not be big or prominent, but no doubt adds a lot to the community. I don't know why, but a college like that seems to have more impact than a university branch, such as the OSU branches in Lima and Mansfield. Perhaps it's because the colleges tend to be old and therefore more integrated into the community -- in terms of location and history. Well, your sort of right. Marathon oil is no longer hq'd in findlay but marathon petroleum is. This is the hq for all marathon gas stations and subsidiaries. Findlay has been very agressive as well in getting companies like lowes, home depot, kohls, and best buy as well as cardinal health to build huge distrubution centers which employ thousands. I also think that the having the university of findlays prescence basically in downtown findlay is a huge boost for the economy and retaining and attracting young people. These are kids who can afford a private school tuition and will be living in the area for at least 4 years and maybe more with grad school. OSU Lima and OSU mansfield are predominately commuter schools in which the majoritys goal is to transfer to columbus or another school after a couple of years. Basically its a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

MAC: General Conference News & Discussion
I'm pretty sure that 9 of ohio's losses where by 5 points or less. Also ,this included kicking a player off the team and losing washington to a 5 game suspension. When he got back they seemed to be a different team. Also luck is always a part of a winning streak to an extent. You have to get some breaks. OU made the most of the breaks and got very hot at the right time which is the name of the game. Remember north carolina won 8 of their first 10 games including wins over ohio state and michigan state and a 2 point loss to kentucky. This year is considered one of their worst ever because of how they finished.

Columbus Crew Discussion
Very good news! A strike would have been horrible for the league. It should be an exciting year for the mls with the new team in philly, new stadium for new york,a second year to build upon for seattle, and hopefully more interest in us soccer from the world cup.

Franchise Re-location
Any talk of blue jacket relocation has been hypothetically speaking concerning the lease agreement the jackets have with nationwide arena.Talk is, if the jackets can't renegotiate their lease it would be a possibility for them to leave columbus. I wouldn't say its impossible but I feel a deal will get done. There's too much tax money at stake for columbus for it not to.

Franchise Re-location
Thats my understanding. A canadian billionaire wanted to relocate the franchise to hamilton.Theres also been talk recently about toronto getting a second team. NFL : Jacksonville is the team that has been mentioned the most. LA's city of industry stadium is apparently good to go as soon as someone relocates so I wouldn't be suprised to see that happen sooner then later. I think as soon as ralph wilson dies buffalo will probably be headed to toronto. I know that the bills draw well but I think that the nfl is pushing to expand the market out of the us not to mention buffalos metro is 1.2 million compared to torontos 5.5 million. NBA:If any city in our area would get memphis I think it would probably be louisville. They are getting a new downtown arena with the nba in mind and they seem to be pushing pretty hard for it.I think the clippers would be a good candidate for vegas if the gambling restrictions loosen up.The nets to brooklyn are pretty much a done to deal to my understanding as well. MLB:A's maybe?? Royals?? Name a small market team thats losing money and I'm sure theres been a rumor at some point in time. I know portland still has all the plans submitted to the mlb for expansion. I also just read that northern new jersey was the number 1 area primed for mlb expansion/relocation. Huge population base but right down the street from the yankees and mets. I wonder how many yankees fans would stop rooting for the pinstripes and start rooting for the swamp dragons or whatever they'd be called.

Lima: Random Development and News
I used to go to the american mall when I was a kid when we would take trips to lima. It used to be fairly busy but it was always 2nd class to the lima mall. I do believe there where some decent stores(limited brands) at one point but the main tenants where value city and andersons. I believe there was a pharmor and shoe carnival as well. Not exactly the big draw retailers.

Relocating to Columbus
First of all, welcome to columbus! Having lived both in german village and in grandview I have to say both are great places to live. I would say the "shady"part surrounding german village that people are probably talking about is past parsons avenue to the west of the village and schumacher place. It is a lower income area but also adajcent to nationwide childrens hospital which along with the city is trying to "rehab" the area. Personally I have never felt unsafe in german village. The majority of crime is car break ins which are triggered by people leaving valuables in plain sight which in most areas in general is not smart. I think you will find any of the areas you mentioned quite safe.

Columbus - Part 4
I believe clapton has a home somewhere between powell and westerville in delaware county. My brother met him at borders on sawmill in dublin a year or two ago. Apparently someone he knew had a book signing and clapton came in with a fishermans hat pulled low and sunglasses. My brother told him he looked like eric clapton(he knew it was). Clapton smiled and said thats what I've been told, winked, and put a finger up to his lips.According to my brother he browsed through the books and chatted with the author for a half an hour after the signing. Seemed very nice and amicable in person.

An Ohio culture?
Thanks for the advice! Our families as a whole have been pretty good about everything.I don't mind some suggestions from everyone I just don't want people to feel like they have to be put to work for the wedding.Theres a reason why we are hiring people to provide services. So everyone can just have fun.
