Is Cincinnati a good place to move to?
You'll probably get a more fair assessment of Louisville's strengths on a Louisville board, though there are definitely folks on here familiar with both...but I would suggest finding folks who have chosen to live in Louisville and asking them that question... ...just don't trust a word they tell you about Cincinnati!

Suggestions to make a new bar successful (my bar!)
I love the idea of comfort food - a thick, meaty chili can be made five or ten gallons at a time, keeps for a week, tastes great, and definitely could go well with beer. You could bring some Columbus with you and make some Johnny Marzetti - the ultimate comfort food. A good quality meatloaf and garlic mashed potatoes, maybe with gravy? Another low-impact-on-the-kitchen food where quantity does not make the quality suffer in the least...maybe I've just got fall and winter foods on my mind... A hearty beef stew? Maybe a nice vegetarian black bean soup - definitely can accompany beer well. All of this is heavy winter stuff, but Chicago definitely has its share of cold weather! And maybe moving to grill-type stuff in the summer? I have no experience in the restaurant industry (outside of being a dishwasher for a while), and no idea if other folks would find this stuff appealing, but the only place I've found with a menu like this and a good selection of bourbon is my house!

Freedom of speech? You be the judge.
Again with this reasonable, content-neutral restrictions on public events...I personally am appalled that they restricted his ability to hold his own forums that he could address at length, to write books, give speeches, publish his thoughts on the internet and in newspapers. Florida cops are jack-booted thugs, and this nation is going straight to hell. Never been this bad, EVER - why, up until Bush became king, folks could create public disturbances at will, resist arrest, and that's what made America great, dadgumit!

I'm not saying the police made the right choices - in fact, you'll note I said I'm sure it could have been handled better. But the fact that folks die from being tased does not change whether Florida law says that a taser is a non-lethal weapon. As we well know in Cincinnati, choke-holds have proven fatal as well - that doesn't make them a lethal technique. Did the police follow procedures? I don't know, and could be convinced either way. Are tasers too often fatal for police to be allowed to use them in situations of simple non-compliance? I don't know, and could be convinced either way. But to return to the question at hand - were this man's first amendment rights violated? Absolutely not.

View From Atop Madison House - Hyde Park, Cincinnati
Wow - very cool! I was up in one of those condo's once (moving some exercise equipment for my boss), but didn't have a camera...I've been regretting that ever since. Thanks so much for posting these! Oh, and one note - you can see the high rises of both East Walnut Hills and those in Walnut Hills! (Sorry, just being a Walnut Hills booster!) Here, by the way, is the view in your last shot, going the opposite direction - from the Overlook at Eden Park back at the Madison:

And in this circumstance, I can't help but think that not only was he removed because he was creating a disturbance but that he was also saying things that might be embarrassing to Kerry and therefore to university officials. I gotta call nonsense on that. He had the same time to speak as everyone else was alotted - does the first amendment require that he be given MORE time than others? Hell, Kerry didn't have to take ANY questions! But once the organizers decided that they would allow questions, they had to allow all questioners the same level of access, regardless of content. Which they did. Once he exceeded his time, and once, upon being asked to stop talking, he chose to create a disturbance, his right to be heard in that forum was done. Nothing to do with content - he was creating a public disturbance. And at that point, the only question is what the best method for quelling that disturbance was. Is speaking with him, calming him down, and ending things that way the best course? Well, it takes two to tango, and he wasn't in the mood to dance. At that point, is arresting him the best course? Well, you've gotta do something. Is dragging him out bodily while he struggles and endangers himself, the officers, and bystanders the best policy? Perhaps it would be. Or perhaps using non-lethal force to subdue him in place and then removing him is the best course. We can second-guess the officers all day, but I would imagine they probably followed the dictates of their training and the rules for subduing belligerent individuals here, but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Freedom of speech? You be the judge.
A bit full of self importance aren't you? Oooo, a chairperson! Local 4H club? Dude, please stop being such a dick. KOOW - the government is perfectly allowed to set reasonable rules on the parameters of free speech at various times and places, as long as those rules are content neutral. And things like public disturbances - say, for instance, shouting a rant during a public meeting after your microphone has been cut off? That's definitely a content-neutral rule. Could it have been handled better? I'm sure. But once the cops show up to take you into custody, they will take you into custody - the method and manner is wholly up to you.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Agreed on the Raiders. But I wouldn't discount Cleveland's offense in our loss on Sunday - they knocked us back on our heels, and we before we could recover, they just kept hitting us, again and again. Took advantage of a rookie cornerback on at least two TD's, who you know is going to improve game after game; swept our kick return teams aside twice in a row, scaring us into squib kicking and earning short fields the rest of the game; and from what I remember of the nightmare, our defensive line played pretty well, but our linebackers were just NOWHERE to help. When Lewis got a hole on a running play, the linebackers weren't there to plug it up after a shortish gain. They didn't bring pressure, they didn't cover the run, they didn't help on the pass - it's like we were completely unprepared to handle what turned out to be a pretty powerful offense, once Anderson had a full week to focus on being the starter... Not to say our defense won't rank among the worst in the league this year - probably will, in a number of categories - but Cleveland's offense wasn't handed anything, they went out and took it...

Is Cincinnati a good place to move to?
Absolutely, it's a great place to live! But to help you out, we'd need a lot more details about you, and more specific questions. - What kind of areas do you like? Giving us analogous areas in a city you're familiar with would help. - What kind of things do you like to do? Museums/ballet/fine dining? Bars/dancing/partying? Parks/hiking/sports? - What do you consider "safe"? A city will have a higher crime rate than a desert...the question is where between those two your comfort level is. - What field are you in? - What kind of rent are you looking to pay? - Will you have a car, or need transit, etc.? I adore Cincinnati - I think it's a wonderfully beautiful city, and I just revel in the river views, the skyline views, the neighborhoods, the parks, just everything about it...but I know there are some folks who might feel differently...we just need more to go on from you!

Freedom of speech? You be the judge.
There are laws against creating public disturbances, and for failure to obey, etc. The government cannot detain you for the content of your speech (outside of certain specific exceptions, like "fighting words"), but for your behavior? Absolutely. When a police officer gives you a reasonable order, don't become beligerent and try to fight him off, and you are EXTREMELY unlikely to be tasored. And if you are, you just won the civil suit lottery.
