  1. And allow people to take their own cameras up to take pictures. That would sell me on it instantly. BINGO Amen. I'd probably go back regularly if I could take pictures...
  2. Our kitchen is separated off, and I'll admit that's nice when the dishwasher is running...other than that, I'd prefer an open kitchen. When we have two friends over, we're all in the kitchen, one or two of us standing and cooking, the others sitting; when we have more than two friends over, then a couple folks are standing, someone's sitting on the stairs, we're all jammed in there...it would be so much nicer to have the kitchen open to the living area, with places for folks to sit, but still be involved in the kitchen fun... But's it's different strokes for different folks on this one...

Yeah, there's a very classy feel to the current one that I'd miss...
  4. Those are stunning.

Fifth - that's fantastic. Probably not for a "logo" qua logo, but what a fantastic idea and execution!
  6. I generally hate modern architecture...to my eye, DAAP is dumpy and disjointed, Vontz is just trying too hard, for no conceivable purpose, and failing miserably - basically, something like the Ascent has no chance with me... And yet, I absolutely adore it. It's simply stunning - it's beautiful with its swoopy lines, the way it overhangs past the verticle on the back end, from every angle it's visually appealing. You can see it on 50 in either direction, on 71, on 75 - and each view is different and fascinating. It's always in motion, it's free, uplifted...I have no idea how he did it, what the elements are, but the final package is just gorgeous to me. Of course, I do wonder what will happen when large amounts of snow melt/freeze into ice and come sliding off in huge sheets of death-dealing negligence...

I thought a little random oddness might be a nice gift to the UrbanOhio forum, so about a month ago, on a whim, I bought an ad: ...linking to ColDay's Cincinnati Aerials, Part II...the run is about to come to an end, so I hope everyone enjoyed it! Oh, and with the veil lifted, I can finally bump this funny Grasscat thread that I'd wanted to bump before but couldn't, because it would have given away my super-secret identity... So, who's next? (Those interested in advertising should contact Rich, as always!)
  8. He is my baby daddy, after all...
  9. Wonderful thread! I missed this before...
  10. No...but then, I went there for two years and never saw the football fields...
  11. If you forget that there are Northside dorms, Case has a wonderful campus...have they torn those dorms down yet? But even as wonderful as it is, there are lots of prettier campuses in the state - lots of them...though toss in Severence Hall, the Lagoon and the Art Museum, and that's a tough trio to beat...
  12. Pshaw. It's all trash. Just trash.

I'm not sure if condolences are appropriate, but whatever is appropriate, I send it your way...

Well, then you'd say, "if you're living in Italian Village, chances are you're watching classism in action" - not if you're living in a "nice" urban neighborhood. Those are two completely separate arguments. I live in a nice urban neighborhood, I don't consider myself to be a classist, and I don't believe I'm the exception. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe wrong on all three counts - but it just seems like condemning all nice urban neighborhoods as probably classist is WAY too broad an accusation.

Er...ok. You said if you're living in a nice urban neighborhood, chances are there's classism afoot. Is it really that sweeping? I guess my real question is, where the rubber meets the road, and where interests conflict - for instance, there are streets here in my neighborhood with a lot of low-cost houses, mostly rentals. So say a couple folks buy a few homes on Windsor, fix them up and love their neighborhood. But that raises housing values, and prices the current residents out of the market. Are those rehabbers classists? They're certainly not acting in the best interests of the other residents.

Congratulations to them - that's just fantastic!

How does one differentiate between a) this neighborhood is evolving and changing, as all neighborhoods do, and b) this is blue-collar-hating gentrification? if you're living in a "nice" urban neighborhood, chances are you're watching classism in action. OK...and so, what does that mean? Ought those of us who live in nice urban neighborhoods move out? Or stay but feel guilty? Or is it alright as long as we think nice thoughts about others? Or is it alright if we just keep our mouths shut and not get involved in our neighborhood? Or is it alright if we get involved, but stay in our place? I'm sorry, that sounds extremely snotty of me, and I really don't intend it that way - I'm wondering how to work out what's good and what's bad.
  18. ^I was gonna say, that looks more like an advertizement than a news story, but I guess they didn't put the realtor's number right in the article... Anyway, we're getting some exterior surface here:
  19. That is some truly fantastic stuff...I'd say some of those riverfront shots rate as definitive images...just wonderful! And that second shot? The QCCA should buy that shot and use it on the front of every brochure they publish!
  20. Wow - that's pretty comprehensive! Very nicely done, and a great effort on such a hot day!
  21. If she's downtown, she's in the 1st, Chabot's district. And that's the seat she ran for and lost to Chabot in 1998...
  22. Indeed - in case you haven't seen it, you should visit http://www.cincinnati-transit.net/ - it's Jake Mecklenborg's absolutely indispensible site on Cincinnati roads and bridges and viaducts and inclines airports and everything transportation. And he's a forumer!
  23. Yeah, I missed that - sorry...but if I'm looking at the right plot of land (3955 Hunt), the county assesses the 24 acre lot at $1.7MM - that's a pretty significant asset...and it doesn't look like it would be all that difficult to access the site with an easement from the church...but at this point, that won't happen...
