  1. That's a great story...
  2. ^Yeah, you know all about those...
  3. With the help of a friend, Sung Oh built the low tables that will be used for dining on the floor of his new restaurant Sung Korean Bistro. M%*$ f$#@.
  4. Isn't there a "hide naughty words" feature available in the forum? It defaults to be turned off, but couldn't it default to being turned on? Then spiders and guests and such would not see any obscenities, even in the older posts...and then folks could choose to turn that feature back off if they like seeing bad words in all their glory...

...don't forget your other side job as a furniture mover!
  6. His ultimate punishment will be having to live with the fact that he did this to what would have been his child. I'm sorry, but that just ain't good enough. His punishment should be thorough, long-lasting and, optimally, painful.
  7. Wonderful - welcome to him! And maybe I'll finally be able to go to one of his restaurants without worrying about if I'm going to be miserable sitting on the floor the whole damn night if all the booths are taken!

My father grew up on a farm in Norwalk, and my mom in a rural coal mining company town, so my folks had no city connections whatsoever - but I did pick up where you mention, Thomas, with exurban living, and the "city" just a distant occasional destination. And now I couldn't imagine life without a sidewalk...

^Me...I don't make effective enough lists and have to run out for tonic water or cat litter or something, or I drive past a restaurant to come home then go back an hour later to get carry-out, or I could car-pool with my wife a lot more often than we do, but don't because it's easier not to...
  10. That is a shame - they had a very tasty buffet...pricey, but tasty...

Next: haunted cow-tipping. ...while hooking up with drunk party sluts...

Boy, I sure wish I could pledge your fraternity!
  13. Nominations are open - click here!
  14. Yeah, that seems REALLY blue for a river that's hardly cracked 27 feet for 2+ months...beautiful! Thanks for posting them!
  15. Well, Jesus points the way, and road signs point the way, so yeah, maybe CiNYC was right! ...and hmm...Point Pleasant is also on the Ohio...hmm...
  16. Cincy-Rise, you're completely right, far as I'm concerned...I actually really enjoy going to NOTL, but it's because I like the carpaccio at Bravo, the sushi at Pacific Moon (still have to try Aoi), the bookstore to browse while waiting for your showtime at the movie theater with stadium seating, and the fact that I can walk there from my home. But no doubt, if I had the stadium seating theater downtown, we probably wouldn't bother with NOTL...
  17. Issue430 emailed me some pictures of a building he used to work at having been demolished, under the subject line, "Can't go home again...", and it got me to thinking - even after having lived 14 different places, every one of them is still standing, as far as I know...but I know that's not the case for everyone... So, have you ever lived anywhere that doesn't exist anymore? Post pictures if you can, tell its story, and we'll commemorate them right here!
  18. Actually, I came to Cleveland for the Solar Energy conference...it was really cool - although, unfortunately, it just doesn't make sense for me to use solar for pretty much any applications right now. When I pay less than 4¢/kWh from Duke Energy right now, and the cheapest solar applications still seem to end up costing 12¢/kWh over a 20 year horizon, it just ain't there yet...alas...I'm sure it will get there, but right now it really seems like a specialty-type energy - the flexible solar panels for generating electricity while camping, or other remote applications...
  19. ...catching up a little: Uh, so does this mean that a creditor is being denied the ability to collect what's owed to him by the fiat of Newport's city commission? And if so, is that normal? And if not, doesn't that make anyone here involved in the construction trade squirm just a little bit? Convention visitors from where?!?! Cincy or Covington...because who is going to want to stay at a hotel in Newport just to have to drive or pay for a taxi to get to their convention. There is not enough to do in Newport for conventioners to make this kind of sacrifice. The hotes immediately surrounding the two convention centers have that market on lockdown...unless they are full, then Newport and other places get the overflow. I would imagine it would actually have a wider appeal than that - there are a lot of small conferences out there as well, maybe things where your regional sales force wants to meet someplace central to everyone...and while some conferences are explicitly for the purpose of being an excuse for a vacation, a lot of them honestly are not - you're packed with stuff day and night...NOTL would actually be an ideal setting for something like that, because you could have a ton of options for meals or for drinks right there, but it would be a smaller venue than a major downtown hotel...I bet if this hotel does happen that its small conference business will do quite well...
  20. Taken from I-471 northbound about a half hour ago:
  21. A shot from tonight of the building from I-471 N, near sunset: ...I really wanted to get this shot a few weeks ago, before they put the walls up - before it looked really skeletal, very cool...alas...
  22. Did you ever move here/look more into it? The view thing sounds utterly kick-ass...and $450/month sounds pretty cheap, relatively speaking...
  23. Not sure I understand what you're saying there, but if you're saying Kroger should acquire land on Central Parkway and build a new store there, I suspect that's highly unlikely, given that they already have a store three blocks from Central Parkway...
  24. "How Fast Is Too Fast in Downtown Columbus" We already know the answer to that question in Cincinnati: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=3152.msg201985#msg201985
  25. I'd assert that you've depended on Cincinnati for nearly everything you've done in NoKY - restaurants are open because Cincinnatians make up a large proportion of their clientele; businesses cater to Cincinnatians; or businesses cater to Kentuckians who are able to pay for services and products because their paycheck comes from a Cincinnati company, or from a company that itself relies on Cincinnatians for part of its revenue; etc., etc., etc. This isn't to diss NoKY - I'll take this further than many other forumers, I'm sure, but I don't think Cincinnati would be anywhere near as great a place as it is without NoKY - but to assert that you haven't relied on Cincinnati for anything is really pretty short-sighted, isn't it? Now, I don't think it's a dumb question - I mean, there's development, and some of it is in one jurisdiction, and some is in another, and one is probably doing a better job of incubating it than the other - but if the question is approached with the idea that there need not be inter-dependency, I can't imagine the discussion being the least bit fruitful.
