And "Cinclebus" is probably the third funniest word I've heard today! ...gotta ask - what were the first and second funniest?

No doubt...I have very weak will power and an obsessive personality...but hey, I haven't smoked in nine months! Wish me continued success!

Ohio Smoking Ban
At this point I'd sooner put a straight razor in my mouth than light up. ...man, at this point I'd LOVE to have a smoke...but I know that I shouldn't, I'm thrilled that I've quit, and I'm far happier not smoking - nonetheless, I'd love to light up a Marlboro and drink deep of its beautiful, lovely smokey goodness...mmm... Honest, I'm strong!

eBay: 2000 Ohio photos from 1900
I haven't posted much lately...there's just so much volume now, it's hard to keep up...easier just to fall behind, and pop in now and then. I still plan on keeping up on things, it just seems not to happen...alas...

Ohio Smoking Ban
I quit once using the patch, and after foolishly letting myself start up again, I quit a second time four years later using the nicotine gum...and I can say that the nicotine gum ROCKS THE FREE WORLD for quitting smoking. Cold turkey, as Kingfish said - I had to have an inviolable rule that said zero cigarettes - none of that just one, I've been so good for so long now - that's bullshiznit, it's a short-circuit straight back to smoking full time again - leads directly back. But the gum was great, because a) it helped knock the peak off the big jonesing fits, but b) it was also a little mini-reward. The hardest thing about quitting the first time was being an uncomfortable pissy bitch, sure, but the second hardest thing was getting into my car after work and having it dawn on me that I couldn't light up. It was the disappointment, that was perpetually with me...but the gum is its own reward. It's not as awesome as a cigarette, but it's something - and it's enough. And to be honest, the gum worked so well that I had a harder time quitting the gum in September than I had quitting smoking in July. But hell, after two or three months you're seeing so many positive results that you can really see past the pissyness you feel and get off nicotine entirely. All that being said, damnit do I miss smoking...man, I loved to smoke...but I'm thrilled that I never plan to inhale smoke again in my life - except second-hand incense smoke!

Dayton: a big-time sports city???
Craig Monroe and Curtis Granderson > all of the Dayton Dragons since the team's inception I understand that this is hyperbole, but come on - Craig Monroe? Dude played 14 games with the Mud Hens. Let's not pretend he's some Toledo product or something. Maybe he's had some demotions since then and played a few more games in Toledo, but he came up with in the Rangers system, not the Tigers... And the Dragons have only been around since 2000, and still have seen Austin Kearns, Adam Dunn, Todd Coffey, Edwin Encarnacion, Wily Mo Pena and Chris Denorfia come through. Dunn and Kearns both put up Monroe and Granderson-type numbers... Oh, and one last observation: "Bulls in Chicago" - er...yeah, I believe there are some historical connections in Chicago to raising cattle...that one ain't really a stretch!

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills - Gates of Eden Park 2
Yeah, that's it...it's well worth going to lunch next door at The Brewhouse (which is about a notch above good bar food - it's a great place), then swinging by to check it out...

Cincinnati Enquirer
David - bear in mind that the striking similarity you noticed is likely so striking because the movie based the fan behavior on how our fans behave, if I had to guess...the point about the occasional creepiness of sports stands - but I wouldn't read too much into the bread scene...

Trip Recommendations for Washington, DC
I hope you have a better time than my wife and I did when we took Amtrak to DC...it was miserable. It was three hours late picking us up, four or five hours late arriving, and (while this isn't the train's fault), all the rocking and jumping and starting and stopping made for an awful, awful night of trying to sleep. The cost was the same as round trip plane fare, more expensive than renting a car and paying to park it in DC for a week would have been, and we spent half again as long in transit for our trouble. I will NEVER take Amtrak on a trip again, I'm very sorry to say, unless the cost makes the hassle and extra time worth it...but I honestly really, really hope your experience is nothing like ours was! Oh, and walking around DC, taking cabs and the Metro - it was a phenomenal trip! We loved every second of that city, once we actually got there and recovered from the travel!

Cincinnati: Neighborhood Codes
You guys put the key on top of the map? Or you actually made the map too? Because I used to see that map on the Cincinnati Police webpage, and assumed the city had put it together at some point...

^I'd assume because of Gaslight Clifton? I'd love to see NUT for Walnut Hills, because saying I live in "the 'nut" feels cool in a way that saying I live in "the 'nati" just doesn't...

Cincinnati: The view from my dorm!
Very cool...sorry you're back in student housing, but at least we fellow forumers get to benefit from it! Man, I lived on the 12th floor of Calhoun in 1990/1991...I could see EVERYTHING from my dorm room - I could watch traffic come down the cut in the hill and across the Brent Spence Bridge, and after a particularly bad storm, I didn't have a screen getting in the way of the view for a few months - and still I didn't take any pictures. Goddamnit, I was a moron when I was 18...

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
RiverViewer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentThe old Celestial was horrifically expensive, for food that was good, but not great. And it was truly geriatric...nothing wrong with that, but man, the average age had to be Golden Buckeye territory. But the new place has Kobe beef, brilliant meals, just fantastic. Our server was so-so, but the food was astonishing... But man, that view is tough to beat. One good way to enjoy the place is just to go to the bar - get a seat near a window, have some drinks and appetizers or dessert, and have your meal somewhere less pricey...

Ohio Smoking Ban
Given that I haven't heard anyone mention this before, I expect that the Division of Liquor Control and the entire executive branch of Ohio's government agrees with you...I was just speculating was all...
-
Ohio Smoking Ban
Did a little digging (mostly here, and then looking up specific code here), and a liquor license holder has to have his license renewed annually. The Division of Liquor Control may refuse to renew that license for different reasons, including if: the applicant....Has operated liquor permit businesses in a manner that demonstrates a disregard for the laws, regulations, or local ordinances of this state or any other state; the place for which the permit is sought....Does not conform to the building, safety, or health requirements of the governing body of the county or municipal corporation in which the place is located I don't know if the smoking ban counts as a health requirement, or if it does, if the fact that it references only the county/municipal corporation would dodge that requirement - but it seems like flaunting the smoking ban would qualify as demonstrating a disregard for the laws or regulations of this state...
