  1. I don't know anything about Lorain, but wow, what a great thread! Thank you so, so much for scanning and posting them!
  2. Menudo & the JETS! It was Benny, not Menudo, and Elton John is already in...

Oh, consider that enjoyed! You have such a great style - I love the stuff you choose to take shots of. And nothing makes one feel cooler than seeing some house, completely out of context, and being able to place it. It makes you feel like an Absolute Master Of All! Thank you so much! Yay!

^I do the same thing in real life, though with a different set of jokes. You should pity my poor wife.
  5. ^Well, that's just great. That will guarantee that no controvertial decisions will ever get resolved. Brilliant.

    Don't forget Stryker...
  7. King Crimson and Yes and early Genesis and Rush are not everyone's cup of tea (ha!), but I can't imagine thinking they're ancillary to the story of rock and roll...but as far as the HOF is concerned, such nerd music is apparently below them. Bob Seger is in the goddamn HOF, but Peter Gabriel isn't? Lovin' Frickin' Spoonful? Yeah, they really broke some ground, cut a groove for so much talent to follow...Christ.

I just won the auction on eBay...that's a great idea about OhioLink, but I think I'm going to want to digest these shots slowly over time...except the Cincinnati shots, of course - those will be devoured quickly! Anyway, Eighth & State, I'll let you know when the books come in, and will get them over to you for scanning purposes!
  9. I like the 2nd shot the best - love the texture of the tree with the structure behind it...that's a really great shot! And a great vantage point for the blue snakey thing - though I probably would have framed the gift shop out of the shot, maybe a little off-center, trying to get just the snakey thing and the David thing - but that's just me...man, that blue really sticks out - almost makes the background look black and white, it's just so vibrant! And wow - looking at that 2nd shot again, that tree is so utterly cool...with the top part backed with stark white sky, and then the building in the lower half...such a great view. Thanks so much for posting that one!
  10. Just fantastic! Sunset, a city, and a river...what more could one ask for? ...and now I'm leaning towards an SLR as well...and after seeing these shots...say, do you have any of the originals on pbase? It'd be cool to see one of those skylines at its full resolution...

Do you have a link for that article?

He'll be working the valet stand. Now that's funny...
  13. The Hall completely ignores prog rock...it's always pissed me off. Great building, fun displays, but f*ck the HOF itself.

That's the last exhibition game of the season...great to see! Hope the weather holds up for it!

Yeah, the device is $499 for the 4G or $599 for the 8G, but that also requires a 2 year plan, and I haven't seen those prices...

Absolute WOW... It's got everything - even a 2 megapixel camera! Only feature set I didn't see included was GPS...did I just miss that part?

The old Paramount Theatre, I do not know much about its history, but I do know that the tower was removed for metal donation to the WWII war effort. That's such a cool find! I never knew that! And speaking of things in the Walnut Hills area that were melted down for their metal during WWII (that segue forced enough for ya?), there used to be a cannon captured during the Spanish-American War that sat outside the Art Museum, which was also melted down for its metal during WWII: ...I've thought about getting a group together to buy a replacement cannon and donate it to the Art Museum - there are sites like http://bronzecannon.com where you can buy them...but I'd imagine they wouldn't really be all that thrilled by the offer...

...oh, and despite jogging regularly for the last four months, I've actually put on weight - so I'm more like a life-sized friggin' Buddha, and getting life-sized-ier...

Wow...I leave for a few hours to watch The OSU lose horrifically, and come home to this...I'll just say, Anchorman was a hilarious movie I've seen three or four times now, 34 is not exactly "middle-aged", I love Walnut Hills, I only like NOTL - but Ink is right, I've been a fogey since about my junior year of high school...

That's the Paramount Building. I don't know much about it, but there's a little bit of history in this article about when the pawn shop closed down (which has a horribly depressing take on the neighborhood inserted by the writer): http://www.citybeat.com/2005-12-14/cover.shtml There also used to be a place called the Orpheum Theater, but I believe that was torn down. Don't know that for sure, but I think it was just up the street, maybe in the Kroger parking lot, or maybe where the Kroger is now.

    Oh, like you're that popular...sheesh...
  22. The Dexter house in Grasscat's update is not in a typical Evanston-ish neighborhood - it sits next door to this place: It's either in or right next to the East Walnut Hills Historic District: ...and right near all those gorgeous, humongous EWH-type 4K+ square foot mansion-looking places on Fairfield et al. Of course, going west, it's not far from much more Evanston-evoking places...but it's definitely a great candidate for rehab, after sitting empty for a number of years. Best of luck to them!

...you must not know many middle schoolers, nor many 5-year-olds! I will do my best! I don't want to post my bid here, it being the internet and all, but if it stays reasonable I'll buy it, and if I get outbid I'll let everyone know. But to be honest, I'm interested in either dropping some cash and owning it, or else maybe donating $10-$20 to someone else who wants it more - I'm not really into co-owning it. But if I do win, I'll happily let Eighth & State scan away at it, and will buy a pbase account to host what he scans!

Yeah, that asshat...dude has his auction end the day he's leaving town for a frickin' week's vacation. Then he gets back into town and still doesn't ship it. Then when it shows up, I didn't want to be a jerk and leave negative feedback - I mean, I did get what I paid for - so I leave him neutral. And he leaves that...gah, I was so pissed. Then he starts making fun of my mother in email and stuff - it's like he was a middle schooler or something...ach, I was so pissed at that asshole...
