Cincinnati at night - Updated with new photos
Yeah, as I've said elsewhere, there are a ton of us on here who adore Cincinnati, and any time we can see parts of the city through new eyes, it's a true thrill. Basically, if you take pictures of things you think are interesting, you can be guaranteed there will be a bunch of us on here who will find them interesting too!

Neglected Cincinnati
Thanks, Jimmy...yeah, the "St. Peters" thing threw me way off!

Blue Ash: Development and News
I have no doubt they do. Though much of it is for the general benefit of all, not for mulch-receptacles. I was mostly just pointing out that these things do go both ways - the complaints from the Cunningham crowd are always the other way 'round...and here we're sitting on millions of dollars worth of real estate for the sake of the burbs, and for no real material benefit. Just an example to keep in mind is all...

Neglected Cincinnati
Where is that church located? Oh, and where exactly are the grain silo's? Oh, and lastly, thank you - these rock! Definitely, keep 'em coming! Say, the Bridges & Tunnels website (the link in your sig file is busted, but it's pretty obvious what the URL is!) - this page: http://www.bridgestunnels.com/index.php?catid=1&photos=0 Does that list all the Ohio River bridges, with photos and details on many, and placeholders for the rest? I don't know enough about the Indiana and Illinois bridges to know how complete it is...very cool site, by the way!

Blue Ash: Development and News
The county's getting $1/year for land that's worth millions, to be a yard waste receptacle? That means my county property tax dollars are going, in effect, to subsidize frickin' Sycamore Township residents getting a multi-million dollar mulch site and not having to worry about cars on their precious frickin' streets. Thanks, Commissioners...

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
Oh, well...we lost, and both Houston and St. Louis won...still not mathematically eliminated, but St. Louis's magic number against us is now down to what, 2? But hey, what fun - the Reds have never been in mathematical contention on my anniversary before (which is today - 9/28/2002) - definitely a fun year!

Cincinnati at night - Updated with new photos
Oh, that's fantastic! Such cool lights - all the colors and the brightness...just great! My favorite are the Taylor-Southgate shots - you got the curve, so I love how it seems to wind along in the air! Definitely, keep shooting and posting!

Why are people in Cincinnati so #$%^ing rude?
Yeah, most of the employees at the Walnut Hills McDonald's are blueblood Republicans, no doubt!

RiverViewer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionEr...we did notice. You see The Cincinnati Kid's post at the top of this page (page 19)? And obviously the paper did as well...so who exactly didn't notice? Haven't been there yet...looking forward to the 1.9 miles of trails, though...

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Topless chicks and South Beach skirts help too... Though smart-ass comment aside, I agree entirely. The open-fronted restaurants, with sidewalk seating, all up on the sidewalk along the main drag - that's just a wonderful way to spend a meal...skyscrapers are fine, but you've gotta engage the pedestrians...that integral connection, merging from street to patio seating to open-fronted indoor seating to apartments/condo's/hotels - that's almost as beautiful as the people!

Cincinnati: Bond Hill: Villages of Daybreak
Moonloop - I agree, garages are a big appeal, for security and for convenience (although 10-20 minutes or a half hour for snow removal is an obscene exaggeration...I park outside every day, and on the worst days cleaning the car is 3-4 minutes; most days with frost it's 1-2 tops). But I'd be surprised if putting the garage on the side of the house would add much expense. Any developers out there who could give us an educated opinion on that?

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
Actually, the Reds are at 78-79. Four wins and one loss puts them at 82-80. St. Louis is at 80-76. Two wins and three losses puts them at 82-79. So I assume that means, if we go 4-1 and St. Louis goes 2-3 (or we're 3-2 and they're 1-4, etc.) that it will force St. Louis to make up whatever game it is they weren't able to get in during the regular season. And if they lose that game? Then it's a one-game playoff with us, and anything can happen. Of course, we've gotta climb over Houston to get there. What about a three-way tie? Well, Cincinnati owns both Houston (10-5) and St. Louis (9-6), and Houston is 9-7 against St. Louis, so it would fall to section 2.b.1 of this tiebreaker guide, with the Reds as Team 1, Houston as Team 2 and St. Louis as Team 3. Which means we can choose to be Team A, B or C. Team A plays Team B at Team A's home field. Then Team C plays the winner of that game at the field of whoever wins. With this Reds team, I guess you'd choose to be Team C - one game instead of two, a day off, and we've been strong on the road this year...

Cincy: Connection b/w Mt. Adams and downtown
There was some discussion of walking to Mt. Adams in this thread that Mark posted...unfortunately, his original picture isn't there anymore, but the discussion of walking to Mt. Adams is! Here's what I posted: I live right near the Twin Lakes, and my wife and I walk to Newport On The Levee fairly often, we walked to a friend's place in Covington to see the fireworks, to a Reds Game, to dinner at Carol's on Main, etc., etc. It's definitely easier to walk downhill than uphill, but it well within walking distance. There are a number of people living in Mt. Adams who walk to work downtown every day. Here's a map with a couple of the routes highlighted - blue is a stairway/walkway...there are definitely other methods from other areas, but it's probably no more than a mile or two from Fountain Square to the Art Museum... And Eighth & State posted this: Secret passageway: There's a sidewalk on the ramp from I-471 north to Sixth Street. To get to Mt. Adams from downtown, take the walk on the north side of Sixth Street as far east as you can go. The walk connects to Monastery Street.

Did you miss my 4-point font "(that was intended as a joke)" line?

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
A wise man once said: "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss...you'll land amung the stars." Actually, you'd plummet back to earth, burning up on re-entry to the atmosphere...and regardless, you'd never get closer than 4+ light years from the nearest star. Maybe the quote you meant is, "If I reach for the stars, I might not touch them. But I won't come up with a handful of dirt." Don't know who said that originally...regardless, I agree completely with the sentiment!

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
So Dave Lapham just said Thurman was at a bar on Kellogg Avenue...it was known that there was a checkpoint on Kellogg that night...the bartender told his crew about it and told them to get a cab if they were going to drink...other folks at the bar offered them a ride...and still, dude gets hit for DUI. And, according to this story: http://www.channelcincinnati.com/sports/9926574/detail.html "Thurman was released to a companion who was sober to drive him home, police said." A companion? There was a sober dude in the car, and he still drove? Aargh...

People are rude, no doubt, but no more so than anywhere else. Excessively rude? Yes. Exceptionally rude? No, I don't think so...

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
^I agree. Break-ins, muggings, robberies, rapes, assaults - they're the crimes that drive people out, keep a neighborhood impoverished, and create the environment that breeds murders...
