Yeah, I saw a bunch of dump trucks spreading fill dirt at the ball field on Friday morning, driving to work. Great to see it coming along!
  2. Hey, thanks for the revival ProkNo5, and everyone else for the kind comments!
  3. My top 5, based on places-that-make-me-smile-just-to-think-of-them, would be Nicola's, Prima Vista, Nada, Boca and Daveed's. But I don't really think of any of them as really vegetarian-friendly - you could certainly avoid meat there, but I don't think they really cook with you in mind. However, a place like Maribelle's Tavern, just down the hill from you - they have a lot of fish and plenty of meat, but a number of vegetarian wraps and sandwiches and appetizers that looked quite good. NuVo is definitely meaty, but they also seem to put out a really well-considered vegetarian dish that doesn't just seem like an afterthought. Andy's Mediterranean Grill is right in the neighborhood, and while they're more expensive than it seems like they should be, there's definitely veggie love to be had there. Hmm...what other vegetarian-friendly stuff is out there? Where you don't have to content yourself with just a pasta or french fries? And what places would YOU recommend, Moonlight?
  4. There are areas of ambiguity, but this generally outlines Walnut Hills: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2390895 And here's East Walnut Hills: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2390915 Victory Parkway is the main dividing line between The 'Nut and The East 'Nut. Both are great neighborhoods, by the way - I've lived in both! - but I must say, I prefer Walnut Hills on a number of levels...and I could die happy if the locutions "The 'Nut" and "The East 'Nut" ever actually caught on... Oh, and I can't believe I left Norwood off my Top 10 list...I need to make mine a Top 11...actually, Mt. Auburn too - Top 12. And wow, if I had to include NKY, I'd need to squeeze at least 15 neighborhoods into my Top 10...

36 years old...yeah, I was literally twice as old as some of the young punks I trained with...it really brought it home when I realized that the age they were when Kurt Cobain died? That's how old I was when friggin' ELVIS died...

^That's hilarious...especially because I've had goetta every Saturday and Sunday morning since I got back!

Army Reserves...back home after IET now, and hoo, wow, I love Cincinnati even more than before - as though that was possible!
  8. Some great shots of this gem midway through this ColDayMan thread from back in 2004! Also, a little ColDay love in this Gritcinnati thread...
  9. Wow - beautiful stuff! Just ran across this now...oh, I love this city! Thanks so much for the thread!

Yeah, this is me from the winter of 2006/2007 - my brother's on the left, and me on the right: ...about 50 pounds and one beards' difference...

I've finally worked myself up to some nice distances running - my maximum distance so far has been 8.5 miles, but I can knock out 6+ miles any day, which is so much fun! Running from the Eden Park area to Clifton and back, or planting a car in Mariemont and running there from Walnut Hills - so many options with longer distances... My 8.5 miles, up to Rookwood, through some great Norwood and Evanston neighborhoods, and back to Eden Park: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2370656 Clifton and back: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2357418 And this was a monster - just 4.4 miles, but all the way up Taft from Columbia Parkway: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2356131

    From last month:
  13. MoonlightOhio - I love your list, but I do need to quibble: The Brewhouse, the Parkside Cafe, and much of Eden Park are all in Walnut Hills, not East Walnut Hills - they're two completely distinct neighborhoods, and as a Walnut Hills guy, I'm particularly particular about the distinction! Sorry for my quibbling... My list: 1) OTR 2) Mt. Adams 3) Clifton 4) Walnut Hills 5) Hyde Park 6) East Walnut Hills/O'Bryonville 7) Northside 8 ) Pleasant Ridge 9) East End 10) Montgomery
  14. Oh, fantastic! I haven't been here for a while, but wow, what a great thread to come back to! Lord, I love this city - and your shots are stunning!

Well, I'm not a veteran either - just finished training last month: ...but I voted for the Army anyway!
  16. I believe people are already living in there - you'll see plants in the windows and such...
  17. I ate there with my wife one night, and honestly, as cool as you'd think eating in a giant kiln would be? Eh, not really. No views, except in the treeline off the parking lot, the food was utterly unremarkable, and the service was fine, but you were COMPLETELY cut off from your server - no catching her eye across the room when the bourbon was running dry...definitely wasn't worth a return trip for us, given all the other options the city offers. I should have tried Porkopolis, I guess, but never got around to it...

That's a fantastic picture...that's one that will end up framed on your kids' mantlepieces in 30 or 40 years...

Oh, I'm sure they'd assume you meant MSB's 1981 release: That record was really big back east, wasn't it?
  20. RiverViewer replied to a post in a topic in City Discussion
I just remember MSB rockin' the North Coast...but with 25 years in Cleveland and 10+ in Cincinnati, I don't know that I've ever heard "upstate" and "downstate" used anywhere...
  21. I may have missed posts on these, but a quick search didn't show anything... First, the Coach and Four restaurant in the Edgecliff closed last December 31st, but will be reopened by Martin Wade (a partner of Jean Robert's, who owns Grammer's, as well as parts of Pigall's and Lavomatic) as The Edgecliff Room this summer. Woo hoo! The Coach and Four had everything going for it - location, built-in clientele, view, a great space - except for the decor, food and pricing. I so wanted to like it, and just never could, despite giving it try after try after try...this is just fantastic news! http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080620/BIZ01/806200374/1170/NEWS And second, ZZ's Pizza is reopening! It closed down when one of the partners got very sick in 2005. He passed away last summer, but now a guy who was a manager at J. Alexander's is reopening it, with the exact same menu as when it closed. The article from May says he was still working on a liquor license, so I don't know where that's at, or if it's already open maybe...can't wait to eat there again! http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/05/19/story16.html All in all, some great restaurant news for Walnut Hills and East Walnut Hills!
  22. Oh, great shots! Hope you enjoyed our humble town!
  23. Thank you! Yeah, been awfully busy...but things have lightened up of late, so I should be around again!
  24. I looked back through the thread and didn't see any good shots of exactly what we're talking about, so since I had some time, I went back and screwed around with an aerial I took (from the same flight that brought us ColDay's two brilliant Cincinnati Aerials threads - Part I and Part II). Anyway, here's a before shot: ...and here's one where I dumped some greenspace in the target slots - please, if I got this wrong, let me know...and if anyone wants to use my photo to screw around making a rendering of what they envision, or to correct my errors, I hereby grant permission to use it, and bend it to your will!
  25. Fantastic info, Randy - don't know if that's new data or if I just missed it, but that would introduce some actual sanity into the board's structure. I don't know that 11 people is an optimal size for a board, and I'm certain that 19 would be a horrible idea, but still, it would be better than having the $500K contributor in the majority and the $38MM contributor in the minority...that's just insane!
