Here's the shot PhattyNati linked to: And here's one of ColDayMan's aerials of the area: So is this the building we're talking about, circled in red?

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
RiverViewer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionYeah, the Hillside Avenue home looks like this: (hotlink to the auditor, so the link may go away shortly). Also, 3508 Beldare (the first Avondale place) looks like this: Personally, I'm amazed Grasscat's able to keep any of this stuff straight - Christ, how many updates did you track just this week? Thank you!!!

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
Oh, and what a beautiful shot they just showed - looked like it was from at the west end of the Covington murals, with the suspension bridge framing the right of the screen - beautiful shot, with the lights shimmering on a dark river...gorgeous!

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
Anyone see the kick-ass bumper segment NCB did on Skyline Chili? They showed the concession people pouring chili over a set of four cheese coneys (with onions!), then making a three-way, and John Madden came in talking about how it's fantastic food if you haven't had it...said he does a cheese bratwurst one day, a three-way the next, a brat the next, etc...wonderful! Also, a great daytime skyline shot from Cincinnati Bible College, then one from Mt. Adams. City looked beautiful... Then we left our friends' place up Villa Hills way during the 2nd quarter and drove past Paul Brown - how fantastic, seeing it packed to the gills...what a beautiful thing is football season!

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
RiverViewer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI think the main point is that the places that have closed lately have had atrocious service and lackluster food at too-high prices. I agree, "just pay the bills" is pretty non-helpful advice; and downtown could certainly be a better environment (as we all wish it were) - but when you drive your customers away, you can't act surprised that you don't have customers. Simone's, while not downtown, is a great example. I went there once, and paid way too much for so-so food served by surly, unhelpful and inattentive waiters. I wanted to spend money on a second cocktail, but never got the chance. A friend who lives nearby really wanted to love the place, wants to support her neighborhood, but it was crazy to spend that kind of money on poor food and off-putting service. It sounds like the same story with Redfish. And the point here is that Redfish or Simone's failing doesn't mean the neighborhood's bad for business. It's not saying the neighborhood's good either - it just means a shitty restaurant going under doesn't speak to the issue.

Only one way to fix that problem! Take pictures and post them! Unfortunately, I don't know which park that is...

Cincinnati: Riverfront plus Kentucky's Best Attraction (The View)
I was outside! Haven't posted my Carew Tower shots yet, but maybe later. Monte, very nice. Gorgeous day, great pictures... Is that water feature the one by Adam's Place?

What kind of camera is everyone using?
I'm eyeing the Canon Powershot A620 - 7.1 megapixels, 4x optical zoom, and only $221 from Amazon. My current Canon A60 has been a great machine for two years, but I beat the hell out of it - I've dropped it, left it to bake in the car, etc. Now it gets lines in low light, and I can't stand the dropped pixels in low light...I figure I'll keep carrying that one with me for shots around town, then actually take care of the new one. Plus, I love the video functions, and want my next camera to still fit in the camera holder I put in my car, so I can use it for http://www.CincinnatiRoads.com (now with some Mt. Adams streets!)...

The Steps of Cincinnati
Grasscat posted some earlier articles on this in the Random Cincinnati Developments thread: First mention, in the East Walnut Hills section of the city round-up; Responses here, here and here, and an update to the story here. But yeah, this probably deserves its own thread now...anyone out there able to combine this stuff? I guess the Grasscat stuff is mid-post, so it's not just moving posts, but at least the relevant posts are linked in one place now!

The auditor's site helpfully explains that it's in CUF...I think either Grasscat or ColDay (or both) had some street divider they referenced at some point for those, maybe?

Hmm...this is just guesswork, but it's a hilly neighborhood - but the broken window and window AC unit means it's not Columbia-Tusculum or Mt. Adams...low fence, which I don't seem to remember in Mt. Auburn (though I could definitely be way wrong on that)...so I'm going with Price Hill?

Wow...any chance you can get that scanned and post it?

Cincinnati: Arts News & Discussion
What do folks think of Tarbell's idea? He thinks the CSO should split its season between Music Hall and the Emery Theater...concerts with lower expected attendance could be at the Emery (think Sibelius or Rachmaninoff), then concerts like Beethoven or the New World Symphony and such could be at Music Hall...

The Cincinnati Photo Trivia Thread
I just happened on it by accident one day on a walk...for me, that's the most direct route to Mt. Adams and its hills (which were my target!), and I walked past it and thought, "what the hell is David Baker Pass?" Actually, I posted this shot in 2004, one of my earliest photo threads: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=1557.0 That thread has a link to a Cincinnati Parks Department newsletter that says David Baker Pass was opened in 1914, before Martin Drive was put in...David Baker was the Public Works Director.
