  1. ...maybe the story's been in the can for a while, and they finally ran it on a slow news day...
  2. It was nicely done...but I just don't have anything to add...

Mike Royko had a column about this back in the 1980's, and I always remembered one of his examples of a license plate they caught and rejected: TIH2 HO ...just think of what that would look like in a rear-view mirror...
  4. New Year's Eve, 2002/2003, Gregory Beauchamp was gunned down in OTR by a car of folks shouting anti-gay epithets...and there have been a few innocent bystanders killed in recent years. But your point cetainly stands - most all of the victims are killed by people they know.
  5. Indeed, a beautiful street! Thanks for the comprehensive tour!
  6. "Holy massing, Batman!" "You've sure got a strong vertical axis, Robin..." ...ok, before I devolve too damn far, I'll stop. Very nicely done - what a kick-ass city. I love rivers!
  7. Instead of the Field of Dreams line ("If you build it, they will come...")
  8. "If they build it, they will come."

On Saturday I helped Rich out installing another stained glass piece he and Niki had done. This was in new construction out in Anderson Township. The house has a whirlpool bathtub right under a big-ass window, and there will be a house going in probably 20 feet away or so - so opacity was the word of the day. The customers knew about what they wanted and picked out the palate, and Rich and Niki went to town...here's the piece post-install: We all thought it actually looked best from outside - the bricks really frame it well.
  10. I drove past (well, rode past) on Saturday, and thought I was going to get a picture of the demo, but it turns out my camera was set on movie-mode. So, I got a video clip of the building in mid-demolition. Sorry for the wobble - as I said, I thought I was just snapping a shot! Here's the video...
  11. Did they check at the closing to see if he paid for it with a credit card advance? Hmm... Regarding the Wyoming pool, I've talked with one resident who believes the anti-pool folks are a pretty small minority of the population, which means a vote by the people ought to spell victory for the pool supporters...I guess we'll find out!
  12. If they're going to give the Banks area a 4am liquor license, they ought to do it now, so folks who are dropping the coin to buy places there know going in that at 2am every weekend night, they'll be living in a drunk magnet. Not only to be fair to prospective buyers, but so it will actually occur - look at the opposition on Main Strasse to efforts to make it more bar-friendly...

Won't take too many blocks before they hit some stuff...well done!
  14. Maybe Randy Newman, "It's Money That Matters" for Mt. Adams? I'll see if I can think of any non-sardonic suggestions...oh, and thanks for the link! More movies coming soon!
  15. ...oh, and can we expect more? Maybe neighborhood themes, each with its own song? A whole suite of pre-packaged PR material - for sale for the right price, I assume!
  16. Cool - I just had to download Quicktime 7.0 to see it - and it was worth it! I really dig the technique of zooming you used. But I do agree, I think it was light on Fields-Ertle and Tri-County surface lots. Would have really rounded it out... (kidding, obviously...very well done!)
  17. ^^Actually, I kind of dig that Paul Brown logo...but then, I've never had very good taste!

I was curious where exactly this was, and I believe this is the property:
  19. Aargh...neither my wife's iBook nor my new Dell will let me watch the video. It plays the audio, but says Quicktime doesn't have the necessary stuff to play the video. I tried to update the software, and it said, "Screw you, Mr. Riverviewer." Ach...damn. Any chance you could save it in a different format for we who suck? Or any idea if there's something I can download to let me watch it? I dig the soundtrack!

Yeah, Dunn gave a curtain call. He was absolutely mobbed at the plate - like, I saw everyone in the scrum - Arroyo was jumping up and down, going absolutely nuts (which, after getting bent over last night was great to see)...Lopez was waving Dunn in to the plate, like he couldn't follow the bright white line or something...anyway, mobbed, they were jumping up and down for a while, finally back to the dugout. Dunn had like three bats in his hands, then came to the top of the steps and waved his hat to the fans - didn't really take time to lap it up, but gave the crowd a wave and then into the dugout.

Not so much what he said, it's all in how he says it...just a sec, I'll transcribe...I dropped the $15 on mlb's gameday audio, and while I hate paying to listen to commercial radio, I still gotta say, it rocks...you can listen to any MLB game, home or away, and I've only had trouble with the stream once or twice all season. I've actually used it most often to listen to Marty's call of games I'd watched on TV - either exciting endings, or else times they've fallen apart, to hear what he had to say about it...you can go back and hear archived audio of any game as well. For $15? That was definitely worth it. OK, here's Marty's call, starting with Phillips on third, Freel on 2nd, two outs, and Lopez at the plate with a 2-0 count: Lopez ahead 2-0, runners at second and third, two men out. Pitch: that's ball three. What is interesting about this season for Bob Wickman is that the next home run he gives up will be the first one he's given up in this 2006 year. Pitching, and he walked him and they are loaded. Well, if nothing else, he has certainly made it interesting. Phillips at third, Freel at second, Lopez at first, Adam Dunn steps in against the right-hander who's yet to give up a home run this season, and a home run right now would cap off a rather impressive comeback. Here's Dunn, whose only hit tonight in four times, a seventh inning single, had the double to win the game in the eighth inning last night. And the stretch by Wickman and the pitch, and it's taken high ball one. They are pacing in the Cleveland dugout, manager Eric Wedge, pitching coach Carl Willis. It is 8-5, Indians. Dunn up there with the bases loaded, the outfield deep and around toward right, and the 1-0 on the way to the plate. Swung on...long drive, right field, and this one belongs to the Reds! Can you believe it? Can you believe it? Adam Dunn with a screaming line drive into the Cleveland bullpen in right field, and the Reds have done what appeared to be the impossible! His teammates are waiting on him, Jerry Narron is out of the dugout banging his hands together, Adam Dunn with a 9th inning 2-out grand slam home run, what a finish at Great American Ballpark! The Reds have rallied to beat the Indians with nine runs in their last two at bats, they win it 9 to 8! [with a little laugh in his voice:] We'll be back in a moment...

Hmm...although, we've played two more games than they have...so we're tied from a Games Back perspective, but they still have the percentage edge...so maybe the fact that we've frickin' owned them this season doesn't come into play, and we're still ever-so-slightly behind them...

KC beat the Cardinals in extra innings - which means the Reds are 1st place in the NL Central! Woo hoo!

Wow...just, frickin' wow...I figured I had us jinxed by watching it on TV, but I guess not! Took my wife and me probably four minutes to stop jumping the fuck around...didn't hurt that I was on the phone with my brother, who lives in Cleveland! Marty's call gives you chills...wow - just wow...
