The Worst Corner in Cincy
^I guess it's because we're all so interested in the area. Similarly, how many picture threads of Cincinnati can we post? My answer is as many as possible. How many times can we discuss OTR's problems, get street-level pictures of it and discussions of it, get new perspectives on it? I guess as often as we're interested in doing so, hopefully until the contours of the discussion shift from how much needs to be done, to how much has been accomplished, to how wonderful the change is... I understand your point - it does feel like we're beating a dead horse at times - but it is out of love...

Friends of Ohio Barns
Here's the image: Very cool...their website rocks, but it's $40/year to be a member...I'd rejoin the Ohio Historical Society first, but Friends of Ohio Barns still looks quite cool...

The Worst Corner in Cincy
Yeah, Walnut Hills starts where McMillan goes over Reading - from there out to Victory Parkway. Maybe I'm just not familiar enough with that part of OTR, but I'd walk along McMillan pretty much any time of day, but would be apprehensive of walking along Republic, no matter what time of day...am I just wrong, and it's really not that much worse?

The Worst Corner in Cincy
Which Walnut Hills block would you pick, if you had to? Maybe it's because I live there, but I never feel as intimidated in the 'Nut as I do in OTR...

Surveillance cameras in Cincinnati
^No doubt. But there's complete security Singapore-style, and there's complete liberty Darfur-style, and somewhere between the two is a good balance of security and liberty. I just haven't figured out yet which side of the line these cameras fall on...

Surveillance cameras in Cincinnati
Seems like maybe there are some helpful uses - say, an alley that's a particular problem, that can't easily be patrolled. You're right, it can't be the entire solution - but I'd think there's a place for them. Now, whether it's good policy, that I don't feel as sure about...

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
The good news is we've got some pitching talent in AA. Homer Bailey had a no-hitter going through 6 innings last night, they pulled him for a series of relievers, and they kept the no-hitter going into the 9th, when the last guy gave up a solo home run. Dan O'Brien at least did something right the last couple years...and Castellini bought a Boston single-A affiliate this spring, didn't he? That's all extremely welcome news. I'd rather patiently watch Yan and Shackleford lose some games for us this season than deal away the future for a couple years of a decent reliever...making a little noise this season is a hell of a lot of fun, but let's face it - we can compete in the NL Central, not in the NL, and certainly not against the AL. This season is for fun - but with the right decisions and a growing farm system, I want to see a dynasty. 2006 is not 1975, or even 1972 - but hopefully it's 1969!

Windsor Avenue in Walnut Hills (Cincinnati)
I saw that 928 Windsor went up for sale, asking $175K, and started looking more at the street. First, here's a map of the area: The more I looked at the street, the more intrigued I became. First, across the street is Windsor Elementary (image from CPS): ...which is scheduled to be decommissioned - the kids will be going to Fredrick Douglass up at Taft and Park. Given all the condo development south of Nassau and along Gilbert, as well as the Schoolhouse Lofts on Victory, I'd think CPS will be wanting to sell that to a developer to refit as residential. Then starting with the house nearest Gilbert, 912 - this is the only house that's really out of character for the street: 912 918: 924: 926: 928: 930: 932: 934: 936: 942 (did someone park a trailer home on top of the porch?): 946: What kick-ass housing stock! All of a piece, two-story, with a porch, same rooflines...need to get rid of the trailer parked on 942's porch, and to drop a few trees in front of 926 and 930, but what a great street. And here's the thing - half the street's for sale. 912, asking $99K ("Sellers will consider any reasonable offer") 926, asking $130K 928, asking $175K 934, asking $92K 942, asking $74K If you look back through the pictures, I bolded the address on the places for sale. Five of the ten houses are for sale, and the future of the entire south side of the street is up in the air. What an opportunity...this is in the heart of that section of Walnut Hills between McMillan, Gilbert, Nassau and Victory - it could really solidify the whole neighborhood. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this street, and will update in this thread...and if anyone's interested in rehabs, or in buying low on what's hopefully an up-and-coming street in the city, here's a great chance!

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
RiverViewer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionGood lord. If you want to live in a gated community, then move to a gated frickin' community. If you're on foot in that area, the Collins steps are a really pleasant way to get up to East Walnut Hills, Evanston and O'Bryonville. The alternatives are going out of your way up Taft all the way to Hackberry, then back down Madison, or else down Taft, back up Torrence, then back over on Madison. Crime? Really? How many actual, you know, crimes have there been on Keys Crescent where the perp escaped via the stairs? Next motion by Cecil Thomas: Gates at the two Keys Crescent entrances; then close off the dangerous steps leading to Mt. Adams (because it leads to crime); and then gates for Martin Drive, Parkside, Paradrome, Ida, Wareham and Monastery. Christ.

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills - The Overlook at Eden Park
They've got themselves a big-ass hole in the ground now: ...every morning, by 7:30, the dump trucks are hauling the dirt away, and jake braking right out front of our house. It's like being woken up by machine gun fire. It's worth it, but damn...

Cincinnati: FINALLY - *90* photos of the "URBAN OHIO CITY TOUR"
Very nicely done! I love how you set up the colorful shots with a set of B&W's...like a couple inside to set up the sinker down and away! Hey, maybe we could put you in the bullpen!
