  1. L&N, Taylor-Southgate, Roebling, Clay Wade Bailey...what's the fifth pedestrian bridge?
  2. Jesus, where were your seats? Is your last name Rieveschl or Corbett or something?

Sorry, fell behind for a few days...but what do you need me for? To discuss the theories of a bubble-headed moron spouting off on engineering and global politics as though he has a brain in his head? I agree with Haynesm007: 'Any article that refers to Charlie Sheen as "a highly credible public figure" has credibility issues of its own.'

I had a great experience at Reser Bicycle Outfitters on Monmouth - they were very nice and helpful to a novice.

Indeed - that was our path up...those rock! Nicely tucked away...though if it's been at all wet out, the top is a real pain to navigate...
  6. Do you know how much money Pepper makes as CEO, or are you just guessing? My guess is that he makes somewhere in the neighborhood of nothing, but I don't know...have you seen anything on it? I'd definitely be curious...
  7. Thanks for the update...although I guess there really isn't an update!

Yeah, at noon we met at Carew Tower, attempting in vain to get to the observation deck - the attendant decided not to show up that morning, and the security guard told me he'd had at least 60 people coming around to ask about going up...second time I've tried to go up there and not been able to...aargh...they'd gotten someone in by 3:30 or so, but that was too late for me to go back by then... Eden Park was probably 12:30, 1pm - both the lower and upper overlooks, back to the water tower and through the Twin Lakes, but that was all we did in Eden Park - didn't get south of the Melan Arch Bridge at all... Oh, very nicely photographed, by the way! Alas, my poor hat, I weep for thee...but yeah, your zoom kicks my zoom's ass!

Yeah, I have a hard time thinking we could have gotten that much more for a power hitting outfielder who strikes out...Arroyo may not be an ace, but a guy who eats innings and keeps us in games, while getting Dunn out of the infield - seems like a good idea to me. I'd love to have gotten more for Pena, but honestly, who out there is saying, "the key to our team is a power-hitting outfielder who strikes out...let's trade our starting pitching for that."
  10. Dude, you must realize that "trust me, I know what I'm talking about" is a pretty weak argument, especially when it's accompanied by saying Pigboy doesn't know what he's talking about (which is stupid, dude's studying this stuff in school, and you've...er...read lots of boards...riiiiight...), and further backed up by saying the census bureau must have made a mistake...riiiiiiight... Look, it's a pretty plain reading of the very texts you posted - MSA's require the commute to be to the central counties. Those are different from the outlying counties. Here's another quote from the census's website: So, Pigboy and the census and a plain reading of even the things you've posted, we should ignore all of that and trust you because you've read boards for years...yeah, no prob...

^That's pretty funny... Definitely, nicely done...I don't remember having seen the bridges before, and I am a river viewer, after all... I love that "I see Wendy's" view - where you think you can actually see a Wendy's somewhere in eastern Indianapolis...very cool...thank you!
  12. So there are now 9 total units up on the MLS - the three Chip Hunter sold ($500K, $575K and $625K, all listed Sale Pending), then six listed under Sibsy Cline, listed at $625K, $650K, $725K, $875K, $950K and $2.9MM! Looking at the details on the $2.9MM one, it's 6400 square feet, which is about twice the size of each of the lower units, and offers "360 degree views" - so they just combined the two $1.5MM penthouses from before. Then I'm going to guess that the other remaining units are ones Chip has at least gotten a nibble on, so that he'll get to pursue that lead for some period of time before the units are released to Sibsy Cline...that sound logical? The HOA fees are apparently decided: $480/month...I mean, $480/month will pay an $80K mortgage at 6%...some people've got jack. They've changed the naming convention on the units (from 301/302 to 3N/3S - I'm assuming North, with the less-kick-ass view, will be the cheaper units), it looks like Chip has a sale pending on one of the same units Sibsy Cline has listed (Chip's 302 probably = Sibsy's 3S), and the prices have changed, so I might not have all of this correct - if you see any errors, please let me know! Unit / Current Disposition / Original Price 1N / Sold for $500K / $500K 1S / ----Limbo---- / $550K 2N / ----Limbo---- / $575K 2S / ----Limbo---- / $625K 3N / Sold for $575K / $650K 3S / Sold for $625K / $700K (Sibsy lists as For Sale $625K) 4N / For Sale $650K / $700K 4S / ----Limbo---- / $750K 5N / ----Limbo---- / $750K 5S / For Sale $725K / $800K 6N / ----Limbo---- / $825K 6S / ----Limbo---- / $850K 7N / For Sale $875K / $900K 7S / ----Limbo---- / $900K 8N / ----Limbo---- / $950K 8S / ----Limbo---- / $950K 9N / ----Limbo---- / $1MM 9S / For Sale $950K / $1MM 10N / ----Limbo---- / $1.05MM 10S / ----Limbo---- / $1.05MM 11N / ----Limbo---- / $1.1MM 11S / ----Limbo---- / $1.1MM 12 / For Sale $2.9MM / $1.5MM 12S / Combined with 12N / $1.5MM

^With what's probably trillions and trillions of dollars in real estate value sitting in the suburbs, exurbs and on out, I agree - I can't see something like transportation costs bringing all of that down, being the death of exurbia. Say you drive 25 miles each way, 50 miles/day, 12K miles/year commuting. If you get 20 miles/gallon, gas at $2.50 = $1,500/year. Double that, and it's an extra $1500/year...you're paying $250K or $350K or $500K for your house, $30K for your car, and $1500 is going to cause an exodus that causes property values to plummet? Triple it, quadruple it, folks will find a way to get where they need to go. And the real worry here is that the easier solution will be not for them to move their homes, but rather to move their jobs. Blue Ash is booming with businesses in part because it's 25 minutes closer to where so many folks live - so many decision makers, in particular. And I'd bet their primary concern isn't fuel costs, it's time spent in the car... I don't have evidence or studies to back any of that up, so if I very much welcome folks to shoot me down - I'd love to think the city will draw the residents, rather than the other way around - but that's my worry...
  14. Wow...that really blows...you have any pictures of the houses that were razed?
  15. Actually, the only thing I'd disagree with, edale, is that I've always felt that at least I could "escape" OTR fairly quickly. Maybe it's just because I know the streets, have a picture of the surroundings in my head, but while it seems like OTR can be extremely scary, at least it ain't huge...many, many blocks - but not square miles. In fact, even in the worst of neighborhoods, you're never more than a couple blocks from potential assistance - traffic, pay phones, probably cop patrols, etc. But maybe I just feel that way because I know the area somewhat - but I know you know the area as well, so maybe it's not a function of familiarity, I'm just on crack...
  16. Very cool...to be honest, that's a route I'd be afraid to walk on my own. Maybe I should just get over it, but I ain't built for self-defense, don't have street-smarts, and feel like I'd not be in control of the situation...I've driven up Vine too many times seeing the crowds of bored-looking folks in need of something to do, and wouldn't want to be the object of the devil working idle hands... Anyway, thanks for your bravery (if that's the right term) and the effort to keep bringing us kick-ass threads like this! I especially dug the one where the back half of the house was drawn on the blank brick wall!
  17. Are there any papers that ever cover the statehouse well? It's surprising, since that's really where the rubber meets the road for most residents and businesses, sometimes much more than foreign policy or federal law, but coverage of it has always seemed weak, when I lived up north (although the paper I read then was the Medina County Gazette), and down here...
  18. Great to see hyperbole and extreme rhetoric is taking hold..."the Homeowner Reduction Act"; "the potential price tag 'would be minimal to the amount of loss that is suffered by people who have been foreclosed upon and have lost their homes.'" Jesus, stop people. No, requiring mortgage brokers to have a fiduciary responsibility to their clients will not make them all decide to forego doing business in the state - that's completely ridiculous. And no, the "amount of loss that is suffered" by people losing homes they never would have been able to buy in the first place is a SMALL price to pay for the benefits to the 90%+ who are able to use subprime lending as a stepping stone into more financial security. And who is this guy? "'Foreclosures are probably caused just as much by creditcard debt as predatory lending,' Webster said." Wanna elaborate? Because I'd hope you know that credit card debt is unsecured debt, meaning the ONLY way it can lead to you losing your home would be if you don't make your payments, it gets charged off, goes through some collection agencies, maybe resold to a factoring company or two, and someone along the line decides to sue, gets a judgement against you, files a lien on your home, and then forces the home to be sold at auction. It may happen - but most folks don't bother suing these accounts, and most of those who do sue don't force it to be sold at an auction. And during the course of the couple of years it takes to work its way through this process, you'll have tons of opportunities to a) sell your house on your own if you wish and pay off your debt, b) file bankruptcy, c) set up payment arrangements, or d) find a way to wiggle out of the credit card debt. Moronic state representatives, throwing out mindless assertions without a lick of thought or evidence to back themselves up. Well, maybe the story's editor cut the paragraph of supporting evidence and logical argument from the story...but forgive me if I'm skeptical...
  19. ^Yeah, really...I mean, that's pretty overtly racist stuff...
  20. Very nice...thanks for the courthouse-obsessed tour!
  21. Man, can you imagine the election campaign if they did try to get the funds via a levy? Ouch...the callers to Cunningham's show, and the callers to Jay Love's show - Holy Christ, let's do anything we can to avoid that campaign...
