    Is that this guy? [youtube=425,350]3ZnzYZmIinM
  2. Yes, I think I'm going to make it. And if any Cincinnati forumers are interested in hitching a free ride to Columbus for the trip, I'll have a few spots open in my car, just let me know... Kingfish, you should work on David too - he was sorely tempted to go, just needed to work out something with work...
  3. Yeah, the windows at Via Vite look like they'll open up probably six feet high, three feet across, and then maybe 6" of post until the next one. They can open that place right the hell up if they want... Just had dinner there tonight...made David run around for water all night like a dog, and berated him loudly and rudely. He loved it. Ha! It's a gorgeous place inside. Love the floor - the darker brown wood, with the tabletops and the chairs, really tie all the modern elements together inside. I assume that's acoustic tile on the ceiling, which really made a large room feel very intimate - no annoying din, despite a pretty full dining room, and we could all hear each other across a large table with no problem. I didn't go upstairs - I'm saving that for the next visit - but the place was just wonderful inside. Dining while watching the fountain is just fantastic. I had the cod, and I have to say, I won tonight! We also had bruschetta, which was just great - it was an assortment of six or eight pieces of thin-sliced bread, each with a different topping - one with a pesto-type thing, one with marscapone, one with a pâté, one with slow-cooked peppers, one with tomato chunks, one with salmon, etc...the potato/leak soup was fantastic...needed a little salt to our taste, but once we salted it a bit, it came alive, and none of us could stop eating it. Then we had a wood-fired pizza (I guess it's done the Italian way, which is not to make it all crispy - it's cooked quickly, but not crisped, which is what we're used to from Pomi's), a penne bolognese (fan-frickin-tastic), and the clam linguini (which was a very nice flavor). It is pricier than I'd hoped to see, but still nothing crazy - if we hadn't been drinking like fish, it would have been around $80/person in the end, for a nice full meal. We'll definitely be spending a lot of time there...despite the rain, it was a really great night. And man, that water was the best! Must've been the guy who kept bringing it...
  4. Also, just up the hill from all that stuff in Chattanooga is a wonderful arts district - little galleries, a coffee shop, restaurant or two, B&B, outdoor sculpture park, etc., etc...wonderful city, great development. Oh, plus the Reds AA affiliate, the Lookouts, play just west of all of that...very nice...

I'm a big fan of Shawnee State Park - and actually, there's a relatively spectacular view up near the fire tower north of the lodge and such. Especially with the fall foliage coming in, that'd make a beautiful hike - through a yellow wood, then a nice healthy climb, and then the overlook... ...digging around for pictures... ...yeah, these were taken February, 2002: ...ach, if only the fire tower nearby were open: ...you'd be able to see damn near to Mount Logan...
  6. David, is your schedule regular yet, or is it going to be a while before it hits a regular groove? I'd love nothing more than to come down and command you around like the dominatrix I am...I'd promise to tip well!
  7. Amen... ...and amen! Public transit and parks - among the most progressivist policies there are!

I'm the smallest person in this picture...my grandpa is on the left (greatest man who ever lived, just lost him in February), my oldest brother is next, then me, then my namesake, my great-uncle Ethan, all on my grandpa's farm in Norwalk, in 1977.
  9. Holy crap! That looks very cool, but definitely not in the character of the area...a block east of the square, right? Wow...I don't know what I think about that...

Definitely, and please keep us up to date, or send a friend to do so if you're out of touch...best of luck!
  11. Office work - I'm a programmer/database designer/analyst type guy...actually, the company is growing more formal around me - when I started, shorts and t-shirts were cool. But they haven't changed the official dress code, and I haven't been told to clean up, so I haven't...guess I should probably be more pro-active about it, but eh...
  12. That's really funny - I have no idea what that means! Want to get involved in the misspelled UGLY movement, and have chosen RED, rather than GREEN or BLUE like most folks do? I assume they're acronyms that I just missed...
  13. Summer: jeans and an un-tucked button-down shirt for work, shorts and a t-shirt outside of work. Winter: jeans and a fleece or sweater for work and outside of work. I put on a suit only when I play a funeral or a wedding...I guess I'm from the no-fashion wing of the straight guy party...
  14. If that's the same bolognese sauce from Nicola's, my wife is going to be excessively pleased...

Indeed...5th anniversary, re-visiting the site of our honeymoon... Really funny - I ran across ColDay's Montreal thread, and saw this shot: ...I'm typing this from the fourth floor bay window in the building on the left side of this shot - the five floor brown brick building with the rooftop terrace...

  19. #16 makes my jaw drop. Just stunning composition, beautifully done! (Sorry if I'm late to the game here!)
  20. ...a thread when I get home!

Last time I quit drinking coffee, the headaches only lasted a couple days and succumbed to pain relievers - by a week in, I was past them. HOWEVER, another week later I had a cup of coffee on morning, was fine, and the next day the headaches were back...
  22. Ah, always great to see a new Grasscat thread when you've been a way a little while!
  23. Hey, go you! Very cool stuff...belated thanks for your thread!

Well, somewhere between manditory sterilization, and public subsidization, there's a middle ground that David and FG seem to be arguing for... ...that being said, I edge much more towards the public subsidizing side of the equation. The fact that your sister is able to manipulate your mother does nothing to speak to whether there should be a base safety net for families of newborns. I like that we use tax dollars to buy food for babies and mothers of babies. I understand the "cycle of dependency" arguments, but those don't have anything to do with food stamps and AFDC - or at least they ought not to.
  25. "TMI, I know" - not in the least...that's exactly the kind of thing that so rocks about this forum - folks who can knock stuff like dating old aerial photos out of the park!
