How to Kill a City (Cincy - Nick Spencer blog post)
Kenwood at Christmas is eggregiously crowded. If we have to do any Christmas shopping there, I'll just drop my wife off then go somewhere else...there are something like 5600 parking spaces, and there will probably be a hundred cars circling, looking for any opening...

Melan Arch Bridge Retaining Wall
On Sunday, I tried to swing by the upper overlook in Eden Park, and there were car-stopping thingies up by the mini-roundabout. I thought maybe they were part of the No Cruising stuff they do on Sundays - though that hasn't been a problem for years now, and certainly not in January...but it's still up there now. I'm wondering if this is preliminary to doing the overhaul of the Melan Arch Bridge...the TM Berry Park retaining wall issue ate up a lot of Park Board funds last year, which is probably why this hasn't happened yet. I'll try to call the park system, but probably won't be able to until Monday...anyone heard anything?

Cincy - Hidden History
In some cities like Gettysburg they indicate homes that existed during the Civil War. Regarding the trilobite fountain, this whole area is comprised of Ordovician limestone, and during the Ordovician period, trilobites where everywhere. Not as common as brachiopods or chrinoids, but more common here than in most places. I found one once when fossil hunting with a friend at a roadcut along 125 in Georgetown - that was extremely cool... http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/geosurvey/geo_fact/geo_f05.htm http://home.cinci.rr.com/billheim/ I don't know why they decided that would be an appropriate place to commemorate our most famous fossils, but it is our most famous fossil!

NFL: General News & Discussion
The Broncos did that with a combination of astonishing skill ('86 season, The Drive - Elway was brilliant), Cleveland's own damn screw-ups ('87 season, The Fumble - thank you, Earnest), and simply by being a better team ('89 season). I have a hard time hating a team just for being better than you are. I could have hated them, though, if they'd have ripped out Kosar's knee on the 2nd play from scrimmage - then I could have hated them.

Was that back when East Walnut Hills was Indian Hill?

Madisonville (Cincy) - Increasing Home Values?
I've been thinking the exact same thing for years and years. Though it seems like smaller houses than Oakley, from what I'm familiar with - seems like more two-family sized houses in Oakley, and more small single-families in Madisonville...though I could definitely be wrong on that. Still, in that location, with the amazing demand, it's just gotta explode...

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
^I'm definitely with you. Seems like the same effect the interstates had on small towns - drive state routes instead of interstates, and you see loads of empty storefronts sometimes...I'm surprised that Mansfield hasn't put in a Rt. 13 bypass, but I'm definitely happy about it!

Post Hurricane Louisiana (Lake Charles/New Orleans)
Not at all...myself, I can't imagine moving back to New Orleans after going through that - why on earth would anyone want to be back there? But then I realize that I can't imagine not moving back to Cincinnati if something similar happened here - why on earth would someone not want to stay? All the best to New Orleans...and thank you for the tour!
