  1. Wonderful...say, how often do they get asked to show their house on assorted home tours?
  2. Rob, how about these? http://www.poiemadesign.com/wwi/index.html Linked in a follow-up to the Instapundit post, these are color photos - from WW I! Those are Autochrome Lumière, it says...
  3. Saw this on Instapundit - a Library of Congress photo exhibit of color photos from the 30's and 40's: http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/boundforglory/glory-home.html Online exhibit here: http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/boundforglory/glory-exhibit.html Wonderful, wonderful exhibit...
  4. Wow...that's fantastic! Thank you thank you!
  5. I'd think the biggest problem is apathy + anti-city folks who make up the majority of the market, thus eviscerating demand - but they aren't the folks you have to deal with frequently, so it probably seems like infighting's a big deal - but even without infighting, there'd be low demand (at least right now) - but with overwhelming demand (think Mt. Adams), infighting wouldn't hardly matter at all... OK, I meant to put that out there as a question, not as a statement of fact - do you think that's an accurate assessment, or am I all wet?
  6. I'm with PresRest - My grandparents have breakfast, dinner and supper, but we always had breakfast, lunch and then dinner/supper interchangeably...
  7. Another unit just went pending - they've now sold the $500K 2nd floor unit and the $575K 3rd floor unit...just 20 more to go! And probably 7 more to pick up construction again, though maybe they need something short of "sale pending" to move forward...
  8. I haven't heard or seen any work on it for a long time now, but I could have missed some prep stuff that The Cincinnati Kid mentions - moving gear there and such...but yeah, nothing big going on for a while now...

...and you mock them to this day, I hope! Man, I can only imagine how cold that had to have been...
  10. But isn't there a huge and vibrant retail area on Severence Mall's grave? I remember it being worse than Euclid Square Mall for a while, then looking like Montrose or Mentor the next time I was out that way...
  11. Definitely dig the new look. Thanks for your work keeping us going!
  12. It didn't work that day, but I figured it was my Blackberry's fault - it chokes on webpages regularly - but I just tried again and it worked great, both links. I just don't see any way to log in or to post...I see it when I hit the links in my browser, but no in my blackberry...any thoughts?
  13. The Ohio Geological Survey has a bunch of cool stuff in its Publications section, including this massive map of its earlier divisions...though it's just a plain old map - Jeff had history and all that! Fun tour, Jeff, thank you!

Ooo...that sounds quite cool. I'm not a very experienced canoeist (though I loved Paddlefest!), but that sounds very interesting. Any of your clippings/tech stuff/charts scanned and postable? I really dig reading that kind of stuff...
  15. Wow, just heard back from Melody - she's quick: "Yes, we are still having an Open House on January 12th. It is 5:30-7:30 pm. The dedication is in the morning at 10:00am."
  16. Riverview East Academy is holding an Open House on Thursday, January 12th - I'm definitely planning to go, and Grasscat expressed interest too...maybe we could have a mini-meet, if you're interested in seeing it up close! I just emailed the principal to ask what time the Open House will be. Probably won't have an open bar, though... Yeah, the stilts are for flooding - the building is right near the river:

The river hit 31 feet in Cincinnati on May 23rd, 2005, then didn't top 30 feet again until the beginning of December...now with the recent rains, it's predicted to hit 38.2 feet by Friday. It's nowhere near flood stage (for newcomers, here's a thread with shots from the 2005 flood - that was almost 57 feet) - but if you're used to green water and pool stage levels, it'll be a nice change for your river views! Anyway, thought I'd make a thread for river-level things like this, as well as a place to put river-related links. Here's a set that I check all the time - first some river forecast tools: 3-day text: http://www.riverwatch.noaa.gov/forecasts/ILNRVDILN.shtml 5-day graphic: http://newweb.erh.noaa.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=iln&gage=ccno1&view=1,1,1,1,1,1 3-month Probability Graphs: http://newweb.erh.noaa.gov/ahps2/weekly.php?wfo=iln&gage=ccno1&view=1,1,1,1,1,1 http://newweb.erh.noaa.gov/ahps2/period.php?wfo=iln&gage=ccno1&view=1,1,1,1,1,1 Here's real-time and recent daily data - goes back 31 days with hourly data, and two years with daily data: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/oh/nwis/dv/?site_no=03255000&PARAmeter_cd=00060,00065 Here's river level highlights going back as far as we have records: http://www.kenton.lib.ky.us/gen/ohioriver.html Anyone else have any cool river gage stuff? I'd love to find something that gave the surface speed, but haven't seen anything like that yet...
  19. Wow...beautiful pano's! I prefer the foggy skyline, actually, but they're both gorgeous. Where were they taken from?

I started keeping track of the number of steps on each of the stairways...unfortunately, I stopped not long after starting...but here's my list so far: Art Museum Steps: 91 Court Street Steps: 54 Monestery Street Steps: 123 Monestery Extension: 53 Oregon Street Steps: 104 Playhouse in the Park Steps: 48

20% more money will mean you get to retire years and years earlier - that's my goal - to stop being gainfully employed as soon as possible! Best of luck!

Wonderful! Yeah, the steps are one of the very cool things about Cincinnati... Say, aren't the Elsinore steps technically closed? Were we breaking the law?

I've always called Town Cab, but that's because a friend suggested them once, not because I've had good or bad experiences. Though I'd suggest walking to a hotel and trying to hail one on the way - otherwise you're likely to have them dispatch a cab to you, then get another one while you're waiting, and screw a cabbie out of a fare...
  24. Wow...as always, just classic...

Good luck, KJP...I quit after 10 years of smoking back in 2001...quit for two years, then tried the social smoking thing, and have been smoking ever since...well, I haven't had one in a week now, so it's on and off, but I need to re-quit... You using the patch or another aid? I found the patch to take care of most everything for me, except the psychological...
