  1. BD's Mongolian Grill on Coventry Has Closed After Nearly 30 Years in Business https://www.clevescene.com/food-drink/bds-mongolian-grill-on-coventry-has-closed-after-nearly-30-years-in-business-43666300 Another loss for Coventry.
  2. A bit of a preview on a smaller scale - Farrell Building downtown Richmond, VA
  3. Target to open small-format store in Woodmere https://www.cleveland19.com/2021/10/13/former-woodmere-whole-foods-location-now-target-new-retail/
  4. They should follow the Denver Union Station model - unique Cleveland centric restaurants, coffee shops, stores, etc. They could also add a large COhatch or similar space for people looking for a place to do work. If they can get Amtrak onboard, TC could really shine again. They bones are already there. https://unionstationindenver.com/
  5. So this guy has a somewhat popular YouTube channel about cities, states and places. He recently published this video and it is filled with a lot of misinformation and typical old Cleveland stereotypes that persist along with some truths and decent video footage.
  6. Unfortunately no. Chuy’s pulled out and it is now going to be a BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse.
  7. I could not agree with you more. For a city the size of Dallas and with as much money is in the area, it is indeed meh. That said, companies continue to relocate there such as Toyota, which moved their entire operation there from beautiful SoCal to the sprawling mess that is the Northern Dallas suburbs.
  8. I hate seeing articles like these popping up around the country. SW should not add extra stress to the people of Cleveland if they already know what their plans are. We have been disappointed too many times over the years. My biggest concern is always the airport. Loosing the hub with direct flights to so many large and midsize cities is a real concern for big corporations. This is a massive turning point for Cleveland, SW stays downtown and we keep the momentum going and then some, they leave and we are set back in a big way. https://www.dallasnews.com/business/real-estate/2019/09/17/sherwin-williams-is-hunting-a-new-headquarters-so-of-course-dallas-gets-a-mention/ http://www.wbap.com/2019/09/17/d-fw-could-be-considered-for-a-new-global-sherwin-williams-hq-and-rd-center/
  9. After visiting downtown malls in Ottawa and Montreal last week, I am more bummed out than ever that Tower City cannot make retail work. The Rideau Centre in Ottawa (Ottawa is much closer in size to Cleveland than Montreal) recently underwent an extensive renovation and expansion and is very impressive for any city. I know Ottawa receives many more tourists than Cleveland because it is Canada's capital but there are many similarities as well. During the cold winters it is even more used than in summer. If tower city was properly redeveloped for retail with stores that fit the Cleveland demographic, I have no doubt it would succeed with the urban core growing, no matter how big online shopping gets. I love the tech hub idea but there are so many other buildings where this could go, such as a joint venture with the "medical mart", since they will have a lot of open space in the near future. https://www.cfshops.com/rideau-centre.html?cid=lis_rid_en_hp_gb
  10. As seen in Montréal, these are such an easy way to add vibrant seasonal retail to the waterfront. Very cool looking and no need for expensive infrastructure that takes years of planning and searching for funding.
  11. So many places are banking on being the hub of blockchain. Malta, the island nation, and Cleveland, are just two examples of this;

  13. Forest City Realty Trust sells key Flats land A Scranton peninsula property with views of downtown where Forest City Realty Trust Inc. (NYSE: FCE.A) once discussed launching a 1,500-unit residential complex is the latest property shed by the Cleveland-based real estate developer. Cuyahoga County land records show Forest City on Tuesday, Aug. 1, deeded the 20-acre site to EWAT Holdings LLC, which purchased the property with $5 million in loans. Jesse Grant, a Cleveland-based townhouse developer in Tremont, signed the mortgage on behalf of EWAT. Through various partnerships, Grant has produced several eye-catching townhouse projects, including Tremont Black at West 10th Street and Fairfield Avenue. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20170804/NEWS/170809868/forest-city-realty-trust-sells-key-flats-land
  14. That is such a bummer to hear that the Sanctuary on Green will close. Having a wife from Germany, we looked forward every Christmas season to taking the kids there to pick out their tree ornaments. Super bummed to hear this. Also, I just drove by Oakwood Commons (worst use of land ever btw) today and can not believe that the city allowed the developer to place an out building with the rear of the building facing Warrensville Center Road. It looks terrible, with the back doors facing the street. I felt really bad for the home owners across the street who have to look at this everyday. I wish you luck in your new position and hopefully you can steer SE in a more design friendly direction.
  15. Looks like The Container Store is going to Beachwood Instead of Pinecrest. http://realestate.cleveland.com/realestate-news/2016/09/the_container_store_plans_spri.html

  17. Possibly the Toby Keith unused building? Probably the right size for an indoor version of FWD focusing on EDM.
  18. Port authority board approves financing to aid University Circle apartment building Construction of the 20-story One University Circle apartment building moved a step closer as the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority on Thursday, Feb. 11, approved issuing as much as $80 million in revenue bonds to help finance the proposed $115 million project. The project, planned for a site on the former home of the Children’s Museum of Cleveland, 10730 Euclid Ave. in University Circle, is designed to house 280 apartments as well as a floor of retail space. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20160211/NEWS/160219962/port-authority-board-approves-financing-to-aid-university-circle
  19. Downtown Cleveland lakefront project nabs Nuevo, an Akron-based eatery, to open in July CLEVELAND, Ohio – An Akron-based restaurant will open a two-story eatery next to Voinovich Park in July, becoming the first tenant in the first phase of a much broader development planned for downtown Cleveland's lakefront. Nuevo Modern Mexican and Tequila Bar just firmed up a deal with developer Dick Pace to occupy a visible site near the end of the East Ninth Street Pier. Already under construction, the restaurant could have its debut as event space during the Republican National Convention. 22. on December 19, 2012 at 7:00 AM, updated December 19, 2012 at 7:06 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Count students among the newest denizens of Uptown, a sleek retail-and-residential project lining Euclid Avenue in Cleveland's University Circle. MRN Ltd., the developer behind Uptown, aims to break ground in January for the neighborhood's $21 million second phase. Rising to 85 feet near Ford Drive, the new building will hold ground-floor businesses, 43 traditional apartments and student housing for the Cleveland Institute of Art. MRN expects to buy 1.5 acres from nonprofit group University Circle Inc. and to close its financing deal for the project this week. Dorms are a departure for Uptown, a high-profile development at the core of Cleveland's medical, educational and cultural center. The project's first two apartment buildings, just northeast on Euclid, are 90 percent leased at some of the highest rents in the city. Ari Maron, a partner in family-owned MRN, says he still hopes to build and sell condominiums in the neighborhood as the housing market recovers. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/12/uptown_project_in_university_c.html#incart_river_default
