Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Butcher & Brewer: One of the owners invited me down to watch the browns game & have a few beers. They are putting the final pieces together before their grand opening (soon, very soon - they're having friends & family nights later this week, so that should give you an indication). The place looks great. Here are a few pics I took with my iPhone (only posting a few - final touches need to be made, and my iPhone pictures don't do the place justice). Side note: The bathroom, which looks great, is very unique, at least unique to Cleveland (you'll see what I mean when you check the place out).

The project will have a lot of public access. Besides the storefront on the sidewalk, they are also cutting large window that open to the alley (between Soho & their building) so you can look into the factory & watch them make the ice cream. The project basically sets up as follows: The front of the building on 25th will be the storefront, The upstairs will be their headquarters (office), and the old Moda dance floor (middle & back of building) is where they'll actually make the ice cream

The Bridgeview project is on hold. In short, their financing fell through. Unless they come up with a different financial package (i.e., investors), or another group goes ahead with this project, don't look for much to happen in the near future.

Was at the Ohio City Hostel the other day. It is progressing nicely (about 75% completed). I took these pictures from their roof top deck - Great view!

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Was downtown last night (checked out a few innings of the ball game) with some friends. On our way out, I snapped a few pics of the casino. The facade facing Ontario Street looked nice.

Pretty Cool, I always liked this building. The Bridgeview Cafe (The abandoned white building) on the northwest side of The Hope Memorial Bridge is coming back to life. You can read about it in Doug Trattner's blog section (click "news" then "Scene & heard") on Scene's website: www.clevescene.com

Early Spring on W25th (Ohio City - Cleveland)
I love this weather & the early spring. The tree blooms, in Ohio City, on West 25 Street look great. Average quality, taken on my cell phone today.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
The near west woodworks space has been divided into three sections & they have leased the middle section (which is also the smallest section in that building). The largest section is the north section of the building (which runs along W25th & Jay Avenue) has yet to secure a tenant. The south section (between the carry out beer/smokes store & the new Elegansia) has 2 real tenant possibilities with a third entering the mix last week. I'll let you know, when I find out, who got the south section.

More OC news: Besides the Vegan Bakery (first storefront on right hand side of picture), other projects are taking shape. The storefront next to the bakery (the old OPA space) will be opening in the next week or two. It will be operated by the guy behind Orale Contemporary Mexican Cusine (they have a stand at the WSM). The place will be BYOB and it will be open for lunch & dinner. Yellowcake will not be staying (it's a pop-up located in the yellow brick building), but the space has already been leased to a reputable retail establishment (not sure if I can release the name yet, but it's a cool, independent, local store). It's nice to see that this block is just about 100% leased (except for the old Near West Woodworks space - more on that next week). Across the street, SoHo (a new restaurant in the old Lelolai space) has finally started construction. My guess is a late fall opening, but that's only a guess. And last, but certainly not least, I've been told by an excellent source that a deal was struck with the Moda Space. I can tell you that it is not a club or a restaurant (it does not involve a liquor license) and it sounds like an excellent fit into the strip (a win win situation). It will involve some retail, should provide some jobs, and that the City of Cleveland helped push this deal through (so i've been told). All I can say is Hell Yeah - I was tired of seeing this prime space sitting vancat, and, if true, will fill a huge hole along West 25th Street!

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
There use to be one right in front of where "Joy Machine Bike Shop" & "Yellowcake" is now. It was moved a little over a year ago. That bus stop was totally out of control (excessive loitering, drinking, drug sales, fights, urination, etc). The business & property owners in that area protested to RTA about it, and RTA agreed that it was a nuisance. The bus stop was moved one block north (in front of the hospital) and the problems dissipated. The people riding the bus were never the problem, it was the people that were using that bus stop for everything other than a bus stop (and that group did not like to hang at the new location - in front of Lutheran Hospital). I'm sure they just moved someplace else though.
