  1. Being the railroad buff that I am, what sort of trainsets would be used on the 3C? I know I'm getting ahead of myself but sometime in the future I'd love to see the Acela for Ohio.
  2. Didn't someone challenge the petition b/c people from outside the city signed it?
  3. Speaking of an aerial tram. Imagine one day a LRT system coupled with the streetcar and an aerial tram from Broadway Commons to Mt. Adams. Think it would work?
  4. I just accepted a job at Xavier and was apartment hunting online when I noticed an awesome modern apartment on main street that was in my price range. If the streetcar was built I wouldn't need my car for anything except possibly driving to XU. Groceries, entertainment, etc. would all be covered by the streetcar. This needs to get built. I'm in my late 20's and upwardly mobile. Just the demographic this project is trying to attract.
  5. They have a new issue out now but Trains magazine had a great article in their July issue call "The Truth About Trains." It did a great job of shooting down some of the myths about rail/transit. There was also a little article about how Salt Lake City's LRT ridership has skyrocketed in the past couple of years and has exceeded expectations. Salt Lake City, of all places, can have Light Rail and Cincinnati is still fighting over streetcars? There's a problem here. Here's a link to a web-version of the myths article. http://www.trains.com/trn/default.aspx?c=a&id=5060
  6. When I was in San Diego I went to a Padres game. I was lucky enough to walk but I noticed that since Petco park was downtown with limited parking their light rail system ran express trains from Quallcomm Stadium to Petco Park. I know the streetcar system isn't going to be nearly as long but perhaps a gameday express would work.
  7. I don't usually post on here but the 3-C was mentioned in passing on Olbermann last night when he was talking to Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman about the stimulus. Basically he just mentioned that the 3-c was going through Boehner's district.
  8. I live in KY and would absolutely love this to happen. I do worry though about our state with two GOP senators that we won't get any stimulus monies. I know the state universities have shovel ready construction projects that probably won't get any money.
  9. I can't wait for the day when I can have a beer while sitting streetside with my friends before a Reds game. This project has so much potential that I can't wait for it to be completed.
  10. I forgot, would the fares be monitored on the honors system. When I was in San Diego this summer I used their light rail (called the Trolley) for a week and only had my ticket checked by a cop once. BTW: San Diego's system is great but it could be improved if the trains ran to Balboa Park and the airport terminal
  11. When does demo on the W&S garage start?
  12. If I may add something. I'm not an architect or anything of the sort (I should have been one though). I don't have a big problem with the brick banks renderings. Sure, I'd like glass and modern buildings but the Banks is supposed to be a neighborhood. Someone said earlier that it's already surrounded by great architecture and I agree. Making the Banks a showplace of modernity might detract from PBS, GABP, and the Freedom Center. I think once businesses and people get into the place it will be a lot better than what's shown.
  13. This is probably a stupid question but I'll ask our rail experts anyway. I was at Xavier for an interview a couple weeks ago and noticed some rail lines that were abandoned crossing Dana Ave (I think). Are these just old industrial spurs or ROW saved for LRT?
  14. Am I just the eternal optimist or does that not really sound that impossible. 250 plus riders and hour seems doable. Is he talking per train or for the whole system?
  15. John, NM. I just heard you on the Big One. Good Job!
  16. I grew up outside of Cincinnati and I've since moved to KY and only get to the city once every couple of months. Last Friday my brother, wife and I all went to a Reds game an lo and behold there were dozers moving dirt at the Banks site! I looked at my brother and said, "if I have the money, I want to live there." Cincinnati is on the verge of big things if the momentum continues. BTW: Thanks to all you Urban Ohio folks for keeping me connected to my favorite city.
  17. Tracy and Eddie Fingers are trashing this thing on WLW right now. They're wondering where this has worked before. I think the requirements to be a host on WLW is 1. Be and idiot and 2. Be able to talk. John, please call in and school the fools. BTW I want to move to Cincy now.
  18. The San Diego Trolley (LRT) actually has a stop at SDSU. The stop is under street level and very nice. I was there in July and it was being used by a lot of students who were there for summer courses. UC could maybe do something under street level. It would be a boon to UC sports fans who hate negotiating the parking situation around campus.
  19. Hi all, first post here. I've been lurking for a long time to follow the discussion on QCS and the streetcar system. I have to say that as someone who grew up in the counties surrounding Cincy and didn't get into town all that often, I see the benefits of a street car system. While I wish Cincinnati would have built the Light Rail system, I think streetcars are a good first step. For tourists, it would be nice to park in the city and ride to the ballpark or stadium/banks. I spent time in San Diego this summer and used their trolley system exclusively and I loved it. Cincinnati needs this.
