  1. Hey, all. I've got a new blogish/photo thing going on at overnitereligion.tumblr.com. It's basically me documenting what I see and what I'm doing in Chicago. I thought you guys might be interested.

I've never actually encountered a roach, but if I did, I'd no doubt be totally grossed out. Ants are a pain, sometimes. Flies, fruits flies, bees, etc...I kind of hate all insects. They're creepy pests. But I don't kill 'em. And no one--well, no one but you (shocking)--is suggesting that it's wrong or immoral or whatever to accidentallly step on a bug. Ish happens. I'd hope you have the capacity to recognize the difference between an accident and something that's intentional.

Hey, buddy? Not making any argument is better than making a bad ones.

See, this is what I'm talking about: ignorance and poorly formed arguments. Do you even recognize why your arguments are horrible? Do you even know how to make a good argument? I'm guessing not. Here, I'll be a nice guy show you how you're coming off as an idiot. Maybe next time you can enter into a discussion with something worthwhile to add. 1. "unless you`re eating a bunch of peanut butter or olive oil in your salad or something you are going to have bad unlubricated joints, no hormones and clammy skin when you are eating nothing but carbs." This is one of most ridiculous generalized statements I've ever heard from anyone. David, I don't meat. My joints are fine. My hormone levels are fine. I have great skin. And who said anything about eating "nothing but carbs"? You're really making the assumption that if you don't eat meat, you're eating carbs all day everyday? Do you not realize how ridiculous that sounds? 2. "If people are vegetarian simply because they do not like the taste of meat thats cool but why don`t the others have hearts that bleed for those poor living organisms they slaughter called vegetables?" Seriously? No, really: SERIOUSLY?? Please tell me you heard someone else say that once, never bothered to actually think about it and are now just regurgitating it back up. Please. Because I'd hate to think you formed that in your own head and thought it was a good argument. I'll let you in a little secret the rest of the world has known about for a long time: plants don't feel pain. Thus, they cannot suffer. Also, fun fact: nobody really knows if scallops or oysters can feel pain due the fact that they don't have a centralized nervous system. So some vegans and vegetarians eat them. Personally, I err on the side of caution. Plus, they're totally disgusting. 3. "Animals eat each other all the time and think nothing of it. A crocadile or Lion would love to bite your @ss off if opportunity presented itself." Of the terrible points you've tried to make so far, this one is the best. That's not saying much, but there ya go. The way that I answer the question of, "Is it not okay for animals to kill and eat other animals?" is, "Yes, it's fine." And no, I don't think that's a double standard. Some animals HAVE to eat other animals in order to survive. You and me? We don't. We can CHOOSE to, but we don't HAVE to. There's quite a difference. There's also quite a difference between a lion taking out a zebra and the conditions and scenarios that revolve around the meat that you're eating. Also, groups like PETA? Even they don't begrudge subsistence hunters that, like animals, HAVE to kill in order to survive. So, yeah. Consider yourself a little more informed. Also, learn to make better arguments, if you're going to try to explain your own views and opinions. Otherwise you look like someone who has no idea what the hell he's talking about.

Hey, you like what you like. As long as you realize that by eating meat you're choosing to cause suffering and pain until the eventual murder of something that was once alive, that's pretty much all anyone can expect. What bothers me are the people who try to weasel out of that with justifications and/or rationalizations instead of just owning up to it.
  6. MoonlightOhio replied to a post in a topic in Urbanbar
I've known lots of people who eat meat and are morbidly obese and have greasy skin. See those are stupid points? What you're doing is rationalizing the killing of an animal because humans "need" to. Because it's "good" for us. I don't go around slapping cheeseburgers out of people's hands, but I do get irritated by ignorance, especially when that ignorance is backed up by horribly formed arguments.

Yeah! Cause pain and suffering before committing murder so you can have a meal! Okay, I'm done.

Yeah, I try not to be super douchey about food, but um, that guy's not a vegetarian. Because he eats meat.

I don't listen to music because it's "influential" either. I don't know what point you're trying to make, but I'm pretty sure you missed mine completely.

Yeah, I hear Schuba's a pretty good venue. I actually have been to the Mystic Celt and thought it sucked. Sounds like a cool Irish bar, looks like a cool Irish bar, but it's not a cool Irish bar. I went to a special event that they held in the back, but just walking through the front of the bar and hearing Nelly blasting on the soundsystem and seeing the popped collar douchebags trying to dance made me want to vomit.

I think they're overrated. What am I missing? Well, to start, you're missing the point that personal taste has nothing to do with deciding if something is overrated or not. You might not like the Beatles, but to deny their incredibly vast influence (which is what you're doing when you say they're overrated) tells me you know nothing about music. The way they arranged songs, wrote songs, wrote and performed harmonies, etc...that all had, and still has, a HUGE impact on pretty much everything that came after. If that's not something you can appreciate or understand, that's fine. But it's the truth.

Anyone got any good bar recommendations? Preferably somewhere near Logan Square, or at least off the Blue Line. I checked out the Green Eye Lounge the other night and really liked it. Very cozy joint.

I went to Bacino's of Lincoln Park last night and it was absolutely delicious. Definitely my favorite so far. Is that the Bacino's you're talking about, or is there a different one?

I've had Papa Ray's. It was decent. I've had Lucky Vito's on 2 occasions, the first being pretty good (I was drunk), the second time being not so good. There's a little spot under the Western Blue Line called Plazzio's that has some pretty good pizza by the slice. Which reminds me that I need to find out if they deliver to LS.

    - I think people who think the Beatles are overrated know absolutely nothing about music. - I love indie dance music, although I don't dance. - I'll watch anything with Jason Statham. - I don't have a dishwasher, disposal and until this Christmas, didn't have a coffee maker (aside from a French press). - I'm not into sports. At all.

Thanks. We're about a block and a half from the square, so I've frequented New Wave quite a bit so far. Haven't been to Lula, yet, but I hear good things. One thing I do want to know: who's got the best pizza delivery? Thin crust, Chicago-style, doesn't matter. Where should I be ordering from?

Wanted to say thanks for all the input. We settled into Logan Square in late December and are enjoying it very much. Feels a lot like Northside in Cincinnati, which means it feels good.

    East Walnut Hills, Cincinnati.

...and the Washington Post; and Time magazine; and CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN; and (insert-name-of-pretty-much-any-other-big-city-newspaper-here); and the New Yorker; and... This is hilarious to me. I love that anything without a blatantly conservative bias is considered liberal. And everything with a blatantly conservative bias, why that's fair and balanced. Some people wouldn't know objectivity if it bit 'em in the ass. And those people are usually the ones who create their own reality instead of accepting reality for what it is.

I find it very asmusing and telling that the guy who lists Bill O'Reilly as his favorite pundit begins his list of reasons for not liking Rachel Maddow with a comments about how he does not find her attractive. Way to go, champ.

    - East Walnut Hills. But that doesn't mean I want to move into the East Walnut Hills of Chicago. I'm open to just about anything. - Less than $1000/month - Irrelevant - I like old buildings. Hardwood floors, big windows. At least one bedroom. No studios. I've got a dog and I guess I have a cat now (long story). - Restaurants, bars, parks, generally neighborhoody places of interest.

Which neighborhoods should I be looking at for Chicago apartments? I loves me some old buildings with hardwood floors and big windows, and I want to within walking distance to stuff I'd want to walk to or at least within walking distance to a train that'll take me there. I do not enjoy ridiculously high rent. Please and thank you.

You had me up until the bit about ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN and PUNISHER: WAR ZONE being anything resembling a good movie.

OH. And even though we share a driveway, she does have a two car garage behind her house that she could totally use for parking if she cleared all of her crap out of it.
