Pet Peeves!
I can see how, because she runs a business where people are dropping off and picking up their kids, that she'd like to have the part of the street in front of her house open. HOWEVER, she's certainly not entitled to it. But if that's what she wants, I don't mind parking further down. If she asks nicely.

Pet Peeves!
I thought for sure she do something to my car, too. But then, she did mention that she'd "dealt with this for a year" which, I'm assuming she means with the previous tenants. I actually met the guy that lived here before us, and he walked me through the house showing me all the eccentricities and stuff, but he didn't mention anything about her. I'm hoping her bark's worse than her bite. We'll see.

Pet Peeves!
Ever have an interaction with someone who is completely unreasonable? I did last night. First, let me explain that we share a driveway with our next door neighbor. No one uses it to park offstreet, but it's mainly used to load/unload at our respective back doors. Last night, I parked in the nearest spot to my house, which was on the opposite side of the driveway, in front of the neighbor's house. I got inside, changed clothes and Allison and I grab our bikes and sit out on the front porch pumping tires and whatnot, getting ready for a bike ride with our friend Amanda. Amanda comes over, pumps her tires, blah blah blah. Then the neighbor rolls up in her van. Even as the van is cruising down the street, we can hear her yelling about something. Gets out of her van, having parked in front of my car and is screaming like a lunatic about something. None of our business, we think, and just try to ignore it. As she walks up the walkway with a young girl and baby in tow, she starts yelling--not to anyone specifically, but in general--that "they think they're better than everyone else" and something about "parking in my fuckin' spot." Obviously now we know what's on her mind. We're kind of speechless and just watch the crazy lady go into her house and continue to scream about how I stole her spot. Then she comes outside, stands on her porch and just stares at me. This is what was said: "Are you really that mad that I parked there?" "That's my motherfuckin' parking spot. You can park anywhere you fuckin' want, but that's my spot--" "Ma'am, this is a public street." "I don't give a damn. I dealt with this for a year--" "We just moved in like, 4 days ago." "Well, then you don't know, do you? That is my spot. MOVE YOUR DAMN CAR RIGHT NOW!" "Look, lady, I don't mind moving my car if it makes it easier for you, but--" "MOVE YOUR FUCKING CAR!" "Hey! Stop yelling! I don't mind moving it for you, but you have to ask nicely." "I don't have to do shit! MOVE THAT CAR!!" "Not until you apologize and ask nicely." "Think you're so much better than everybody!!" "No, I don't. I think that you're acting crazy and if you think that's going to get you what you want, you ARE crazy." "I'M CRAZY?" "Yeah. This is the first time we've ever spoke and you decided to greet your new neighbors by screaming at them and telling them they can't park on a public street That's crazy. You're crazy." "YOU BETTER MOVE THAT CAR RIGHT NOW! I OH JESUS I SWEAR TO GOD!" "I'm not moving my car until you apologize for screaming at me and you ask nicely. Then I'll be happy to move the car." She then runs inside and continues to scream. Also, she runs a daycare out of her house.

Originality in Movies = dead?
For everyone complaining about a lack of originality in film: stop going to a mutliplex and start going to an independent theater. If you want originality, there's plenty of it out there, but you have to look for it.

Favorite Music At The Moment?
Albarn has evolved as a composer and an arranger, which is very apparent on the new album. It took DEMON DAYS a couple of listens to grow on me, and it looks like PLASTIC BEACH is following suit. But damn, is it growing on me.

Best Movies Ever Made?
I could probably rattle off 100 of my favorite films, so here's a small list off the top of my head: MICHAEL CLAYTON - Beautifully shot, genuinely suspenful, superb acting. Clooney's best role to date. One of the best corporate thrillers ever made. GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS - Some of the best dialogue in cinema, one of the best casts in cinema. THE FRENCH CONNECTION - Ushered a new era of film, super gritty, excellent cinematography and direction. BLADE RUNNER - Speaks for itself. Greatest sci-fi film ever made. THE INSIDER - Crowe's best, Mann's best. Personally, this film has been very influential in my own writing. THE HORSE'S MOUTH - Great dialogue; quick and witty. Guinness' best role. Completely charming and ultimately heart breaking. BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD - One of Lumet's best. Brutal, beautiful. WALL-E - A new benchmark for animated films. Beautiful. AMORES PERROS - Brilliant in every way. CITY OF GOD - One of the best shot films I've ever seen. SYNECHODOCHE, NEW YORK - Brilliantly acted and filmed. Challanging. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN - A masterpiece. DOG DAY AFTERNOON - Lumet's best. Pacino's best. I STAND ALONE - The absolute most brutal and disturbing film I've ever seen. Brilliant. THE PROPOSITION - One of the best examples of an excellent story, cast, director, cinematographer and composer all coming together to make a near perfect film. SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS - Excellent. Love the boozy swagger of the music and the completely amoral characters. Burt Lancastor is genuinely intimidating. I might do some more later.

The 9th one down, the one with the people painted in the windows...where is that?- Cincinnati - look at all the pretty colors
I was so sad when they painted over the dragon. I loved that guy. :(- One night at the Highland Coffee House
I'm sure a lot of you might not be too interested in these, since the subject matter is made of people you don't know from Adam, but I'm bored, and I thought I'd post these. But if you're into photography as an art form, these'll give you a pretty good indication of where I'm coming from. Very low light, grainy, high film speed stuff.- Pro Over-the-Rhine Stickers
A friend of mine had an "I *HEART* OTR" sticker on her car and someone peeled it off.- Show a pic of your pet
Here's Penny. She's 4 years old. She's a sweetheart, loves to nuzzle and cuddle. I love her so much.- Cincinnati: Walnut Hills
Fun fact: This house is on my street and the original owners had it disassembled in Switzerland and rebuilt here.- HOLGA!
Thanks. To be honest, those are old photos. I haven't updated my website in about 2 years, and even then, some of those photos are 6+ years old. I've been wanting to completely redo the site from the ground up and incorporate a Twitter feed, Tumblr, etc, but I lack both the time and the know how. Mostly the know how.- Favorite Music At The Moment?
Been listening to a lot of Florence + the Machine, N.A.S.A., Grouper, Fever Ray and Air France lately. None of new, but all of it good.- HOLGA!
Close, but no. It is! Correct. I've heard them called the Oakley channels, too. I do now! Good use of the camera's limitations to create a mood. Thanks!- Cleveland: Catholic Diocese Church Closings
To be honest, I haven't read through this thread much. I can't say I feel much sympathy for the Catholic Church as a whole for having to close churches, but I am curious as to what will be done with the buildings. Has that been discussed? Would it be possible to purchase them, do you think?- Is UrbanOhio addicting?
The most addicting part of UO are the photo forums. I LOVE seeing photos taken in and around Cincinnati. But even then, I go through phases where I'm logging in everyday to ones where I haven't logged in in months.- HOLGA!
You guys like toy camera photography? Here are some shots I took with my Holga. Most of these were taken in public places; extra credit if you can place them. Oh, and the black border around some of them is because I scan the negatives and have to manually crop the image from the film, blah blah blah, there you go.- Recent prints or "It's Hip to be Square"
We did our old dining room in a really awesome grey-blue, and I can't for the life of me remember the shade and/or name. Our living room is "grape leaf", which is essentially an earthy green, and I love that color. I tried to pick a color for the dining room that would compliment it, but it didn't work out that way.- Recent prints or "It's Hip to be Square"
Haha, I actually do not like my blue walls. It's too birthday cake blue, and not the grey-blue I was hoping for. I'm going to have to repaint soon (I keep telling myself that without actually doing it).- Recent prints or "It's Hip to be Square"
I've got access to an industrial Epson series something or other, and it's able to print up to 40 inches wide, no minimum length, as the paper is spooled. Paper is either luster or matte, and I prefer matte. And thanks for the compliments. :)- Recent prints or "It's Hip to be Square"
This weekend I made some 12.5 X 12.5 prints of some recent and old photos, framed them and hung them in my dining room, and I thought I'd share them here. You might recognize the exterior shots from being taken around town (Cincinnati), but seeing as these shots are more artistic and less documentary, I figured I'd put them here. The first two here are actually 20 X 20, and we haven't framed those yet. The dining room: - Cincy - 'round Central Pkwy & misc
