That just proves that Andrew Fletcher knows not what he speaks, and that Dave Gahan is the one true mastermind behind Depeche Mode. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but teams of highly trained specialists have worked for years, proving the awesomeness of the Mode. You can't stand in the way of science, dude.

Unpossible. It's been scientifically proven that no band's cover of a Depeche Mode original can be superior in any way.

Not if he keeps making movies like The Happening, no.

The video for "I Feel it All" makes me melt from happiness overload. I was feeling the same way about my music library last night, actually and downloaded, uh, I mean bought some new stuff. I haven't had time to listen to much, but from memory, I've got new stuff by Air France, the new TV on the Radio album, the last two Lindstrøm albums, Grouper's album, Dj/rupture's new album, the new The Tallest Man on Earth album, the new Mae Shi album, and a bunch of Gang Gang Dance (I had their God's Money album, but I can't find it), all waiting for me when I come home.

Thank you. The Happening was, by FAR, the worst film that I saw in 2008. "Doesn't anyone care what happened to the honeybees?" No, Mark. No one cares.

    I forgot Feist!

Self explanatory. The only rule is that the film must have been released in 2008. Mine: 1. WALL-E - Beautiful, uplifting, wonderous. Hands down, my pick for best film of 2008. 2. Milk - Extremely well written, acted and directed. A lot of biopics struggle with telling a cohesive story, feeling like a group of scenes edited together. Not so, here. Sean Penn, James Franco and Emile Hirsch were all flawless. 3. Iron Man - The most fun I had at the movies last year. I might be a little biased being a hardcore comic book nerd, but Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark was perfect casting. And the Iron Man armor looked better than I could have ever imagined. 4. The Dark Knight - Certainly the best Batman film of all time. Obviously, Heath Ledger's Joker is attention getter (and rightfully so), but Gary Oldman's perfect performance as Jim Gordon shouldn't be overlooked. Christopher Nolan nailed the epic scope of a city under siege. 5. Synecdoche, New York - Probably the most challenging film that I saw last year, but also one of the more rewarding ones. Phillip Seymour-Hoffman's performance is brilliant, as is Charlie Kaufman's script about taking life's minutiae and literally making it larger than life. 6. Cloverfield - This did for monster movies what 28 Days Later did for zombie flicks. This is also the only film I've ever watched that made me feel like I was about to have a heart attack. Like, for real. 7. Pineapple Express - Definitely the funniest film of 2008. I'm fairly certain I started laughing as soon as it started and didn't stop until it was over. Seth Rogen was Seth Rogen, but it was James Franco who was surprisingly awesome as a sweet little stoner. 8. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - "Flawlessly adorable" is an accurate description. Director Peter Sollett did a fantastic job at making NYC seem small and intimate. Also, the one film to make me feel both younger and older at the same time. 9. Burn After Reading - I didn't understand the mixed reviews. The movie I saw was hilarious, as evidenced by my several laugh out loud moments. Malkovich is perfect as a guy who just gets increasingly more upset (and louder). 10. Slumdog Millionaire - Visually stunning, and emotionally evocative. A little less sentiment, and this would higher on the list. For as many movies as I feel like I see, there are always so many more that I don't (or haven't yet): Rachel Getting Married, Wendy and Lucy, Stop-Loss, The Wackness, Transsiberian, Boy A, Man on Wire, Frozen River, Body of Lies, Changeling, Doubt, What Doesn't Kill You, The Wrestler, Defiance and many, many more...

This is different from the "Favorite Music at the Moment" thread. This is where you compile your soundtrack to 2008. And as any good mix CD maker knows, you gotta list the artist's name, the name of the song, and if you can, the name of the album. You can order and list them any way you like; I opted not to order the tracks by date, and instead went with what I think would make for a really good mix: 1. White Winter Hymnal - Fleet Foxes / Fleet Foxes 2. Skinny Love - Bon Iver / For Emma, Forever Ago 3. Germs - Yeasayer / All Hours Cymbals 4. Kim & Jessie - M83 / Saturdays=Youth 5. Time Will - Hercules and Love Affair / Hercules and Love Affair 6. Bodysnatchers - Radiohead / In Rainbows 7. Dumb Animals - Handsome Furs / Plague Park 8. Shuffle Your Feet - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club / Howl 9. Electric Feel - MGMT / Oracular Spectacular 10. Oxford Comma - Vampire Weekend / Vampire Weekend 11. Pot Kettle Black - Tilly and the Wall / O 12. I Will Posess Your Heart - Death Cab for Cutie / Narrow Stairs 13. Lenders in the Temple - Conor Oberst / Conor Oberst 14. Sentimental Heart - She & Him / Volume One 15. Fix It - Ryan Adams & the Cardinals / Cardinology 16. Is There a Ghost? - Band of Horses / Cease to Begin 17. White Tooth Man - Iron & Wine / The Shepherd's Dog 18. A&E - Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree 19. Paper Planes - M.I.A. / Kala
  9. You should be able to find it at the Party Source in NKY, and the Kroger in Walnut Hills (where I purchased it last).
  10. Does anyone know if the Barrelhouse is still brewing and bottling beer? I know their bar on 14th closed up a couple years ago, and someone reminded me that they used to bottle their stuff and sell it in various stores around town. Anyone know where I can find it?

If I'm at the Comet, I get the jerked tofu with black beans, rice, monterey jack cheese, the medium salsa and sour cream. If I'm at Chipolte, I get the vegetarian burrito with rice, black beans, green peppers and onions, the tomato salsa, gaucamole, sour cream, cheese and lettuce. If I'm at La Mexicana (the absolute best Mexican joint in town--even if it's in Newport), I get the burrito with pumpkin blossoms, rice, black beans, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, onions and salsa.

I embarrased to admit it, but I'm a HUGE Delerium fan. I could listen to those crazy beats placed over Gregorian chants all day long. :)
  13. Yeah, I think you're right. I think that road in view there is Scranton Road. Thanks!
  14. So, I joined the Flickr Group, and I'm trying to map this photo, but I cannot for the life of me remember which bridge I was standing on. Is there a Clevelander out there who recognizes this view?

I'm in the process of writing a comic book and most of the music I'm listening to at the moment has a lot to do with what I imagine the soundtrack to the comic book would be. There's a lot of Deltron 3030, Handsome Furs, Gorillaz, Depeche Mode and BRMC.

Yes, they are people. The 16 y/o wont be 16 for another month, however, he has to abide by the rules. When he got the account, those were the rules. Next month we'll address that. It's not like I'm reading every line and every entry. Just the juicy stuff. ;) I'm very very very close with them. Multiple times during the day they email/text me and tell me to look at something or ask for my opinion. We have a good relationship and I trust them. When my oldest nephew or neice does something my brother doesn't like or says something "smart" in a manner that reminds him of me , my brother will tell me to "come and get child" or says "See, they act just like you....those are your kids". My brother has never been able to compete with me in the psychological war fare arena and I've trained the two oldest well! I'm not sure if you have children, but that is how things work in my brothers house. Thats how he and I were raised, but with a lot less negotiating. What my father said was law, period! What my brother says in his house is law, except the stuff that pertains to me; when I butt in on behalf of the kids or if I'm in a bad mode and I want to piss off my skank-in-law. I can run interference for the kids as my brother can't say no to me, he knows, if that if he says "no" to a request, they'll hint to me and I'll make it happen, against his wishes. (This is why I'm favorite uncle ;) ) I act as mediator and we reach an agreement. If my brother tries to play hardball, I tell me niece to cry. Which makes my brother feel like crap. If that doesn't work, I casually mention it to tell my Mom. My Mom will then rip into my my brother for denying her grand daughter(s). [thats gravy for me since it makes my skank-in-law feel worse than my brother] >:D Am I the only one getting a creepy vibe from this post?

If they're not people, then what are they? :? Advanced fetuses?

Intrusive? How? They are children. My brother told them know they cannot have myspace accounts. I wasn't sure they need an account, but its mostly for them to communicate with cousins outside the area. I have a large extended family, I have 30 first cousins, 28 have at least 2 kids. The kids are very close like we are. So in order for my brother and two cousins' to allow the their kids to have a myspace, I agreed to "monitor" them. The kids had to agree to give me their passwords. It's a "win-win" situation for all. Unless I've met an "outsider" they cannot add them. I'm very, very close with my nephews and nieces. They are damn near my children. They tell me everything, they share with me the things they would never tell their parents. I probably know more about their lives then my brother and skank-in-law. Kids are people, and people, regardless of age, need a certain level of privacy. Besides, the oldest one you mentioned was 16. That's two years away from being an adult. Does a 16 year old really require all aspects of their life to be under such intense scrutiny? I should hope not.
  19. I really like the second to last one, "Taylor-Southgate and the River." Good stuff. :)

How old are these kids? 13, 14, 15 & 16. I monitor a couple of my cousins' kids sites as well. Isn't that a little intrusive?
  21. I just joined the group and submitted my two photos. :)

    This is my serious face:
  24. Those categories are little odd, so I didn't pick one, but I live in a very old apartment building in Walnut Hills, Cincinnati. Just around the corner from the Brewhouse and a short walk to Eden Park. I love it. :)
  25. I've heard good things about Honey, but haven't been there yet. Slims and Melt are both delicious, though. Oh God, the vegetarian Philly Cheese Steak from Melt. Oh, I'm so hungry now. :( I've been to the Riverside a total of once, and I loved it. I really, really need to go back. I've been hearing good things about Lavomatic. I haven't been able to find a menu online, though. There's not one listed on Jean's website, or if there is, I haven't been able to find it. What's the food like?
