Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
MoonlightOhio replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentWhat are everyone's top 5 Cincinnati restaurants (excluding national chains)? I'm looking to expand my horizons a bit more and am open to any and all suggestions. Well, except steakhouses. I'm a vegetarian. But other than that, what would you guys say are your favorite places to eat?

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Except Cincinnati has bucked the national trend here. Most large cities across the nation have seen increases in crime with the worsening economy. In Cincinnati both the City and Region have seen decreases, with the City experiencing rapid decreases. Crime is very much linked to economics, but the initiatives/efforts Cincinnati has put in place have payed off big time...and seem to be solutions that are solving the issue of why/how people resort to crime. That's such a contradiction to reports of Cincinnati Police increasing the number of arrests to get as many people processed and moved through the system as they can, in order to justify a new jail facility.

Your top 10 Cincinnati area neighborhoods
Well, then I'd like to amend my previous post to say "Walnut Hills" and leave the "East" out. :) I've always taken East Walnut Hills to be the area east of Kemper and west of O'Bryonville. The immediate area that I live in is marketed as being Eden Park, but I've always assumed that was just for real estate reasons.

Your top 10 Cincinnati area neighborhoods
1. Northside - I don't think there's a need to really explain this one. 2. East Walnut Hills - My neighborhood. :) Gorgeous houses, Eden Park, the Brewhouse, Parkside Cafe. And one of Cincinnati's best looking places during fall weather. 3. Downtown/OTR - Home to the Coffee Emporium, Kaldi's, the CAC, Findlay Market, Shanghai Mama's, and much more. 4. Mt. Adams - Not my scene at all, but the uniqueness of the layout and the views of downtown are worth a nice stroll through the area. Plus, it's close to East Walnut Hills, and a drive through the park on a nice night to get a milkshake at the Mt. Adams UDF is hard to beat. 5. Clifton - Yes, UC's recent development of a lot of the area sucks, but it's still a great neighborhood. Many small businesses, coffee shops and the best art house theater in the area. 6. Pleasant Ridge 7. Hyde Park 8. Oakley 9. Columbia-Tusculum 10. East Price Hill

Beer You Go!: The Great Beer Thread
Well, it's considered to be a doppelbock, but it goes down so smoothly. It's the only relatively "affordable" dark beer that I can drink one after the other like juice. It also qualifies for the European definition of "malt liquor", which basically means it's higher alcohol (7%). I'm not great at describing flavors but I strongly suggest you give it a shot. You can just buy a single bottle from the cold section at Party Source, if you don't want to shell out for a 6-pack. Ooh, dopplebocks are delicious. I didn't make it to the Party Source Tuesday night, and had to settle for Newcastle and Christian Moerlein's Helles Lager, neither of them being a bad beer. I'm definitely making it out to the Source tomorrow, though. I can't wait to sample more Trappist beers. :)

Beer You Go!: The Great Beer Thread
I think you've mentioned this one in another thread. Can you describe it for an ignorant man, such as myself?

The Great "**YOUR** Voting Experience" Thread
Which is exactly why I chose not to vote early or by absentee. I wanted to vote on Election Day with my neighbors. :)

The Great "**YOUR** Voting Experience" Thread
I wondered what the loud noise and garbage can behind the machine were all about. :(

The Great "**YOUR** Voting Experience" Thread
That's an odd smell for a church. Actually, that's an odd smell for anything. We had paper ballots that we filled out with either blue or black ink that were scanned into a machine and counted. I hope.

The Great "**YOUR** Voting Experience" Thread
The one that I had wasn't cheap. I think it was around $5-6 per bottle. Worth it, of course, but not cheap. That's what's going to win the election. :)

The Great "**YOUR** Voting Experience" Thread
The real question is what kind of beer am I going to get on my way home from work today? Election day is like my Super Bowl. I've already taken the day off tomorrow, and am open to suggestions. I usually don't stray too far from pale ales and porters, although a good lager is not out of the question. :)

The Great "**YOUR** Voting Experience" Thread
I woke up a couple hours early (7 AM), put on some pants and walked to the polling station with my lady. What a nice day, too. After we voted, we went downtown to the Coffee Emporium and got some coffee before I had to head into work. We live in East Walnut Hills, our polling place being at St. Ursula's (or is it Ursaline, I can never remember?). There were a few people, but they had enough booths. We didn't have to wait.

cold brew coffee?
Where's Kitty's? Kitty's Coffee has two locations. One is in the Merchantile Building between 4th, 5th, and Walnut Streets. They are actually inside the building near the Broadway Series office. Their other location is on Court Street between Main Street and Walnut Street (about a block South of Coffee Emporium). Good toddy? If so, I'll have to check them out. Thanks!

cold brew coffee?
I used to hit up the Starbucks in Columbia/Tusculum on my home from work and they actually had my coffee ready for me once, knowing I come in at that time. :(

cold brew coffee?
You're not supposed to enable! >:(

cold brew coffee?
You say that as it's a bad thing! LMAO! Step over to the dark side! Haha. They're not cheap. I can't seem to function anymore without coffee of some variety these days. "Hello, my name is Josh--" "Hi, Josh." "--and I'm an addict."

cold brew coffee?
Where's Kitty's? Anyway, The Coffee Emporium in downtown Cincinnati makes a good toddy. Their other location in Hyde Park does not have it, though. What they do have is an iced coffee available in about a quart sized cup that left me wide eyed for the entire day. Awakenings in Hyde Park does have toddy, and the one I had the other day was the best one I've had yet. SOOO good. I'm addicted to these things now. :(

Cincinnati: capturecincinnati.com Photo Contest
And not pay you a dime. "Royalty free" and "right to use" are phrases that should scare people, not entice them. I'm sure the entries will be beautiful, but I'll not be participating.

Those Columbia-Tusculum shots are great. I love those crazy houses. :)

Cincinnati in the Springtime ~ College Hill and Northside
Wow, Paramount Vodka must've been huge back in the day. There are a couple faded signs in East Walnut Hills, too.

Green Building / LEED
There's a new office complex that's being built near the Dana Avenue exit of 71 that's being billed as a "green campus." I'm sure the companies that take up residence there will outsource their jobs to foreign countries within 10 years, but hey, its green, right? ;)

Panhandling/Scamming stories
Wow, that's comical. So they're wasting taxpayer money to propose a new law that would add 5 feet the anti-panhandling radius for ATM's? Absolutely ridiculous.

Cincinnati Photos From This Past Weekend
Hey, thanks. I like shots of the city from angles and locations that I haven't seen before. You can only take so many photos from Devou Park or Mt. Adams, you know? And who knew Cincinnati could look like a desert wasteland? :)

I didn't want to start a new thread for just one photo, but I thought you guys would enjoy this one. This one was taken on Mehring Way.
