  1. The idea. I'm biased, as I'm a "city" guy. I couldn't live in the exuburs, countryside, etc. Like I mentioned before, I'm a city guy, too. That's why I'm gravitating toward the Nevada desert. Somewhere 30 minutes outside LA.
  2. The power line challenge or the general idea?

    I rather liked it. :)

So, in an effort to save a few bones, you're cool with contributing a business who routinely violates labor laws, including discrimination against women, denying overtime and ignoring state rules on breaks? To say nothing of the negative impact a place like that has on the local economy...

What possible reason could you have to go to Wal-Mart?
  6. MoonlightOhio replied to a post in a topic in Urbanbar
People of Wal-Mart's Facebook page has a lot more photos than their website. It's a sad world we live in, folks.
  7. I'm actually seriously considering something like a weeHouse, that I can plop down on a piece of land. Water, gas and power lines could prove a challenge, though.
  8. I consider myself a city mouse, but over the last few years, I've been thinking a lot about settling down in the Nevada desert.

    I second this.

Another thing: I went outside and uprooted all of the no parking signs around my house because the wind was knocking them back and forth so much that they were likely to fly out and smash into someone's car.

I remember this very well. We didn't have power for about 3 days, which was a lot better than some neighborhoods. The eeriness of the still nights actually inspired me to write a short story which I'm developing into a comic book. :)
  12. I guess the problem I have with this, is that I've moderated a board before, and I never abused my powers, as it were. Sure it's a thankless job, but that doesn't excuse bad behavior. My problem comes from the bad behavior seemingly being excused all over the place here because, "Hey, this is their show, they do what they want." In my opinion, that's not how message boards should exist. It's apparent that Sherman doesn't think he did anything wrong, and other mods and admins will fall over themselves in support of his actions, as they seem to be doing. That's fine. I'm done with this issue.
  13. There's a lot more you can do. Make sure it doesn't happen again. It's not that hard to NOT be an asshole. As for Sherman's response, he completely glossed over the fact the small portion of my post that offended him could've been edited instead of the whole post being deleted. I'm assuming the reason he glossed over that is because he knows this and doesn't want to admit he did something in error and/or out of anger for being offended. It's not hurt feelings here, it's accountability. If the mods aren't held accountable for their actions, then what's the point?
  14. Why do I have to repost anything? If the MAJORITY of the post is ON TOPIC, then the ONE SENTENCE that a moderator took offense to can be edited. Sherman acted out of anger, and that's not how mods should be acting. He should never have been given moderator duties at all if this is how he chooses to handle things. As far as folks routinely posting full articles, one was posted by a memeber yesterday that an exception was made because he authored the article. There was another one re-posted from Salon.com. I believe you personally responded to that one, DanB. And stop following me around. You're creeping me out.
  15. Sherman Cahal took offense to a post I made in the Religion thread in the Urbanbar forum. He had posted a full article in July, and being that I see folks routinely post full articles to this day, I was confused and made a comment about moderators being able to get around the rule. I made another post asking for clarification. All of those posts have been deleted. I'm fine with that. They were technically not on topic, and once the issue was resolved, I understand the concept of cleaning up the clutter. What I'm not happy about, is that I made a post in the Religion thread in the Urbanbar forum in which I described my feeling about religion. Totally on topic. That ENTIRE post was deleted by Sherman. Why? He was offended by the first sentence in the post where I commented on his posting of a full article. I've asked in the thread and I've asked via PM, and he was not responded as to why the post could not be amended and REQUIRED full deletion. I understand the need for moderators, but I will not tolerate folks who are more than happy to power trip and abuse their roles. This kind of behavior brings UO down and I'm calling on the other mods and admins to correct this issue. Thanks.
  16. Sounds like a good pick to me, and he certainly can't be worse than Zimpher was. But have you guys seen the comments people are leaving on Cincinnati.com about this? It's ridiculous. Some folks should not be allowed to use the internets.
  17. ^ So, wait...How is that not posting the whole article? The big red box at the top of the page tells me I'm not allowed to do that, so...
  18. It definitely seemed a lot smaller than ALL of the previous years.
  19. I love the fifth one down. "Colin Powell = Vanilla Ice" - anyone get the reference?

It was a noble effort. But that plan is whacky.
  21. When I was younger, I used to think, "Suckhole of Ohio." Now, I'm sort of drawn to it. I'd never live there, mind you. But bands like GbV and the Breeders paint nice pictures of it, and I kind of appreciate the beauty of a crappy town.
  22. I actually haven't been to Grammer's yet. I know it's the current hipster hotspot, which is probably why I've been dragging my feet. I can only handle so many ironic mustaches drinking PBR out of a can at one time. The place looks gorgeous, though.

Holy God, man. This "fair tax" plan is ludicrous. There is literally no way that it could be implemented, much less come remotely close to being the beneficial tax plan that it claims to be. What a complete disaster. I thought about breaking it down, point by point, but I don't have the time and to be completely honest, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

How would you differentiate between Coke that comes in a bottle or can with Coke that is mixed at the point of serving and comes out of a machine? You can't taste the difference?

Didn't Obama poke fun at his fake tan at a dinner recently? The press dinner, maybe?
