  1. In college they called him LensFlare. I made that up.
  2. Interesting. Thanks.
  3. As a future Columbus resident, I have to say, I have no f***ing clue why you guys don't have mass transit. As a Cincinnatian, your city strikes me as pretty evenly developed, progressive, and educated. Apartments coexist peacefully with subdivisions. Random buildings are built to the street. These kinds of things in most of Greater Cincinnati would spark a riot. I just don't get it. How did the ball get dropped? I mean, aside from general Ohio hostility. What I can glean from this thread is that since the city covers so much land area you get a lot of suburban interests on your council?
  4. Like...just buying it? Or taking it by eminent domain?

Thanks GCrites. I think I've found something...it's not in a trendy urban location but it's not in the boonies. This whole experience has felt a lot like a rent bubble. I looked at several places over the past 5 weeks that posted to Craigslist and within hours had multiple showings and offers. The only explanation I have is that the comatose housing market and/or availability of mortgages has put a glut of young professionals into the rental market, overwhelming supply.
  6. PS: I'm not saying nobody's going to do it. I'm just saying I'm not.
  7. Looks like per hour rates are lower than that. $10 an hour for a "cruiser" I'm not going to go exploring on a rented bike and have lunch in 60 minutes. If I only had 60 minutes to do that I'd just take the streetcar to OTR for two bucks! :D But seriously, if I were inclined to explore the park, I'd probably walk. If I were inclined to explore the city, I'd take the streetcar. If I were inclined to spend an afternoon on a bike in a city like Cincinnati, I'd probably already have one. Let's say I'm down with my significant other and a kid or two. At those rated I could expect to be out over $100 for the afternoon.
  8. So if I found myself at the park and wanted to bike down the trail and have lunch, i'd be out $30 bucks. I think I'd just get a bike rack for my car lol.
  9. LOL. Oops!
  10. Look, I'm hardly an eternal optimist. But do you really want to pick this bone in the midst of the most successful urban turnaround in Cincinnati's history?

That's a very slick site Walker. I have called a few of the places on that list already, but they are full. :( I think that speaks to the demand of living in walkable neighborhoods.

Thanks buckeye, I've actually been there twice now and the girl I have worked with is EXTREMELY professional and helpful. I feel like writing them to commend her, even if I don't rent there. I'm seeing 5 places tomorrow, from Mill Run to Upper Arlington to Victorian Village. That should give me enough options to make a decision in a couple days. Then, as of June, I will officially be a Columbus...person. Whatever you call yourselves up there.
  13. Perhaps nothing makes me happier for Cincinnati than to see the floodgates open in the comment section and a tide of people willing to show their faces and criticize the Enquirer's crappy reporting AND coast in the same breath.

This is all indeed very strange to me lol

Quarry's waitlist is closed until further notice. Just got off the phone with Metro Rentals, they rented out their June places 3 months ago. Also just got off the phone with Annex River South. Minimum 10 person wait list for their units through July.

    Oh, price range, under $1000.

Watermark is on my list, but honestly it's about the only place. Most of the rental companies and communities I have contacted have been on a wait list for 3 months for Summer move in.
  18. I am a Cincinnatian. I am moving to Columbus in June for a grad program at OSU medical center. I have been looking for a nice place to live for about a month now. I have found this to be unexpectedly competitive, but I have been looking in areas near OSU. I really do not mind a reasonable commute, but being from Cincinnati here is what I know about Columbus: OSU is there Its flat As you can see, my knowledge is impressive. If anyone knows any landlords, or nice properties, or has tips on traffic and decent parts of town, do tell. And no ColDay, I can't find anything in Grandview. I've been looking for a month. 16,000 grad students are all looking for the same 1 bedroom apartment in that neighborhood.
  19. This keeps needing to be explained: They aren't a for-profit company. They do not have any goal other than to continue to redevelop the city center. That's not to say every single thing they do is the best thing, they just don't profit from it. 3CDC could cure cancer. Or they could have your mother assassinated. Either way, it wouldn't be to line their own pockets. They are a non-profit.

Oh god, I just got internet meme'd on Urban Ohio.

I worked at Solomon Cordwell Buenz. They had 3 floors on Michigan Avenue. 1/0th of one floor had a couple of the big boys, who would whip something up, sometimes literally on the back of a napkin. The underlings would do the rest.
  22. Sounds like he'll fit RIGHT in on Vine. Senate and A Tavola just get terribly crowded, but Bakersfield turns into a straight up douchebag watering hole on the weekends.
  23. That's not true. I think it's a decent building, and plenty of others here do as well, which is a group of people who are at least somewhat credible on the topic. As much as credibility is relevant to personal taste, anyhow.
  24. This reminds me of when Sherman protested "The Korean" at the Senate. Which, by the way, turned out to be my favorite thing there. I dream of it. And Chimay. And truffle fries.
