Well there are two options. We can rely on publicly funded news like NPR and PBS, which critics will always say is one breath from state-run-media. Or we can have private, for-profit news, who's evolutionary endpoint is almost always idiotic sensationalist entertainment, because that's what seems to be the most profitable. I kind of agree with both criticisms, but I feel like I get the best journalism from NPR, so...

It's not awful. It's quite possibly our salvation.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Hmmm...perhaps they couldn't work out the left-turn signal phasing by having it make a left at Findlay and Vine?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
If the building at Henry is being considered for a car barn, perhaps that's a good reason for looping it up one block to that location?

Wouldn't that have the same problems as the fountain? Like visibility? And maybe attracting pedestrians? Not if the sharks had frickin' laser beams attached to their heads. Considering it's a casino, that's not outside the realm of possibility.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I've always thought it was just a story they kind of made up. The only one she wore that remotely resembles QCS is this one:

Clearwater Beach, home to America's biggest roundabout, had an enormous fountain upon completion. The fountain has since been removed. You do need some visual clearance, and you don't want to put pedestrian attractors in the roundabout, they are supposed to cross at the "necks."

English has no better word than "modern" to colloquially describe something "an up-to-date style." I let that slide with people. :-P

Nipped that little convo in the bud. On topic, please. Feel free to discuss that level of politics and religion in urbanbar.

Good coverage from the Enquirer, though, imho.

After watching the actual comments in council, reading Dan Monk's article was like stepping into an Orwell novel.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
^Let's bring this down to brass tacks. The Enquirer, and conservatives, will never support a streetcar system. Suggesting that it be "scrutinized" or "considered for another time" are sweet nothings. The timing is far from bad. With hundreds of property owners literally holding their breath for this thing, the timing is perfect. That said, Bortz's proposal seems prudent. But it leaves me wondering why the ordinance isn't contingent upon the fed dollars in the first place.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I was talking recently about what people think should be down there at this stage in the neighborhood's development. Some things thrown out there were: Laundry Convenience grocery Bank Cheap food A couple more bars, perhaps a wine bar or store I thought about that. Basically the same kinds of things you see pop up in cheap strip centers at county road intersections when new subdivisions go in at the developing suburban fringe.

Ohio: Fortune 500 Companies Updates & Discussion
Oh, and as an aside, Wal-Mart is not only America's largest publicly held company, it dwarfs the number two (Goldman Sachs) by a factor of four, and is the world's twenty-fifth largest economy. It has revenues of half a trillion dollars.

Ohio: Fortune 500 Companies Updates & Discussion
Cincinnati destroys its peers in this category. It's only compared to Cincinnati that Cleveland looks to be lacking. It's an anomaly, and certainly hasn't prevented vast swaths of Cincinnati from being a total dump. Initiatives like 3CDC however are starting to make an impact. What it does impact though is culture. I could swing a bat blindfolded in Cincinnati and hit 15 people who have a college degree and work for a big corporation. In Orlando I'd need to hire a private investigator to find that many.
