  15. The space between the Knight center and the art museum would be nice for a stright up and down hotel.. but it would have to have alot of exterior glass features to resemble the blocks designs.. but more space is open on market st where there is currently a surface level parking lot right across from the art museum and a minute from the knight center. I've also heard a rumor that a cinema is in the works with some modern/upscale retail in the vacant lots at rt from market st to rt 59. As mentioned to me a smaller version of the greene in dayton. One can only hope but We shall see.
  16. Company plans to build next to existing research center in South Akron By Jim Mackinnon Beacon Journal staff writer POSTED: 02:52 p.m. EDT, Jul 29, 2008 The world's largest tire maker is keeping its sizable presence in Akron. Bridgestone Americas this afternoon said it wants to build a state-of-the-art technical center in Akron on property next to its existing research center off South Main Street, across from Firestone Stadium. The company in a news release that the 240,000-square-foot building would represent a ‘‘combined private and public investment of more than $100 million.’’ Construction is to begin in early 2010 and be completed by the end of 2012. The announcement this afternoon to accept Ohio's estimated $68 million economic development package was made during Bridgestone Firestone's 20th anniversary celebration of Japan-based Bridgestone Corp. buying Akron's Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. The corporate marriage evolved into the largest global tire maker. MORE: http://www.ohio.com
  17. Last summer that University and the city made an agreement that when Akron is ready to build a new arena it will be built downtown. In all due consideration that was a smart move by the Don! So eventually it will happen.
  18. The jillians that was here didnt have the "Pop" like the one I went to all the time in Covington, KY..that one was multi-level.. and had several clubs on top.. But I would love something of a family friendly adult arcade to be downtown. and it is for sure that there will be an arena downtown.. the only question is when..
  19. This is one of the spots along the canal where a new restaurant will be built. (foreground grass) Right behind Canal Park Staduim. Word is (not confirmed) that it will be a 6 story building with the first 2 floors being a entertainment venue, 2 foors for office/retail (access from the bridge) and the top 2 floors for apartments/condos. What I have beent old is that the city is trying to lure dave and Busters into this building. If so it will full alot becuase Akron is in need of this kind of atmosphere. wouldnt have to travel to cleve/cbus for it. plus be a hit with the UA students.
  20. The University of Akron Department of Athletics announced on Wednesday that its men’s basketball program will begin in September a three-year partnership with Nike under which the Zips' shoes, game uniforms, warm-ups and accessories will all be licensed under the Nike and LeBron James “LJ23” Trademarks. Currently, the UA basketball program and entire athletics department calls adidas its official apparel provider and, with the exception of the men’s basketball program, that agreement will extend through the 2013 season. The Nike deal with the men’s team will run through August 2011. "I'm from Akron and The University of Akron is my hometown school,” LeBron James said. “Because of my ties to the Akron community, the University and Coach Keith Dambrot it is important to me that UA is designated as a Nike/LeBron James LJ23 School. I want to be sure that Coach Dambrot's guys look great head to toe." "This is just another example of LeBron’s commitment to the city of Akron, its University and our basketball program,” Dambrot said. “This announcement is important to us in many ways. It furthers our connection to one of the greatest players in the world, helps improve our image as we strive to become one of the top mid-major programs in the nation and also gives us a competitive edge in terms of recruiting." "LeBron James is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest athletes to ever play the game," Akron director of athletics Mack Rhoades said. "Of equal importance, he is recognized as a quality person who loves his hometown and is willing to give back to it. This partnership is significant to the growth of our men’s basketball program as it provides a great distinction for our student-athletes and coaches." The Nike/Akron partnership is a product of Dambrot’s long-standing relationship with James. As head coach of Akron’s St. Vincent-St. Mary High School (1998-99 through 2000-01 season), Dambrot won a pair of state championships (2000 and 2001) with James being a key component of the squad. James is no stranger to UA’s Rhodes Arena on game days and is a regular at off-season workouts in the Zips' facility. The Akron campus also serves as the site of the LeBron James Skills Academy and the LeBron James King's Academy each summer. This year's King's Academy (youth camp) begins this Saturday and runs until June 25, while the Skills Academy (showcase for the nation's best high school players) is scheduled for July 5-8. The King James Shooting Stars Classic (AAU tournament) is also headquartered on the UA campus each April. Courtesy: Akron Media Relations Release: 06/18/2008

The fireworks downtown were pretty good.. I had my chair set up on the interbelt and had a marvelous view...
  23. I love how the campus is coming together.. I'm not sure how quaker square fits into the future of the school.. I heard they might sell it do a hotel chain after they have enough dorms built and then use those funds for another major project.
  24. metro... I would rather see the interbelt completed to rt 8 via tunnel.. that would be sweet
